9-year-old girl killed by her family's dogs in Navajo County, Arizona

A 9-year-old girl was killed after being attacked by her family's dogs last week in Aripine, according to the Navajo County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a residence on South Drive at around 6:31 p.m. on Aug. 9 after receiving a 911 call reporting the incident.

Officials say the girl ran outside to turn off a water spigot when the dogs attacked the girl for "unknown reasons" despite having been familiar with the family and children.

Family members and eventually emergency medical personnel attempted to render aid to the girl, but she ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead, the agency said.

The Navajo County Sheriff's Office and Navajo County Animal Control were investigating the incident.

Pakistan has seen a troubling increase in dog bite cases recently. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), there were 7,815 reported cases of dog bites nationwide last week.

Punjab reported the highest number, with 5,158 cases, followed by Sindh with 1,975 cases. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had 475 cases, Balochistan 91, Azad Kashmir 112, and Gilgit-Baltistan 4.

This surge in dog bite incidents highlights an urgent need for effective measures to manage the stray dog population and ensure public safety.

Health authorities are urged to take immediate action to address the issue through vaccination programs and better control strategies for stray animals.

A stray dog mauled an infant to death at Gopipur village in West Singhbhum district, a senior police officer said on Monday.

The six-month-old girl was rushed to Manohapur Community Health Centre, where she succumbed to injuries from multiple bites, he said.

The incident took place on Sunday morning when the infant's mother had gone to the washroom, and the stray dog dragged the little girl to a distance and mauled her, the officer said.

An infant died after a dog attack on Friday, according to Memphis Police Department.

Around 5:19 p.m., officers responded to the dog attack at the Cedar Run Apartments in Hickory Hill.

When officers arrived, they were told that two dogs had attacked an infant child.

Officers made the scene, and the dogs were still attacking the child, at which point an officer fired his service weapon, hitting the dogs.

The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

On Saturday, Memphis police confirmed that the child was pronounced dead.

This is an ongoing investigation.

A bear mauled a man to death in Russia's Far East, state media reported early Monday.

Russian state news agency RIA reported, citing the head of the Magadan region's Hunting Department, that a human body with signs of an attack by a wild animal was found on a forest road near the village of Verkhnii Seimchan, located about 5,700 kilometers (3,542 miles) from the capital Moscow.

"According to our information, the man, a 41-year-old resident, was returning from fishing. His car broke down, and he decided to go on foot at night," Elena Slobodanyuk said, adding that it is extremely unsafe to go into the forest area at night.

The report further quoted the official as saying that Russia's Investigative Committee in the region is probing the man's death.

Polar bears kill worker at Canadian Arctic radar site

A pair of polar bears attacked and killed a worker at a remote government radar site in the Canadian Arctic, the facility's operator said Friday.

The attack took place Thursday at the outpost on Brevoort Island, in Canada's far northeastern Nunavut territory, said Nasittuq Corporation, the logistics company contracted to operate the site.

"An attack by two polar bears has resulted in the loss of one of our valued employees," it said. "Nasittuq employees responded to the scene and one of the animals was put down."

The site is one of dozens of North Warning System outposts dotting Canada's far north, forming a surveillance tripwire against aircraft incursions or cruise missile attacks.

The radar coverage spans over 5,000 kilometers (3,100 miles) from Alaska to Labrador in eastern Canada.

Dead fin whale washes ashore Torrance Beach, California

A large fin whale washed ashore Torrance Beach on Saturday evening and died before rescuers could arrive on the scene.

Lifeguards first discovered the whale at around 6 p.m. inside the surf line on the stretch of beach between Redondo Beach and Malaga Cove, near the intersection of Via Riviera and Paseo De La Playa, according to the Los Angeles County Lifeguards.

They called wildlife experts from the Marine Mammal Care Center and National Marine Fisheries Service to the scene, who confirmed that the whale was dead.

The cause of death remains unknown at the time.

"Due to it size & location it is expected that the whale will remain on the beach while responders create a plan to remove it," said lifeguards said. "If you are in the area please give the animal & responders plenty of space to work!"

It's unclear exactly when the whale's carcass will be recovered from the area.

Woman mauled to death by unknown number of dogs in Butte County, California

More than a dozen Great Danes are possible suspects in the deadly mauling of a Butte County woman, according to the Butte County Sheriff's Office.

The body of Feather Falls resident Davina Corbin, 56, was found just before 2 a.m. on Thursday by a resident who contacted the sheriff's office.

An autopsy of Corbin determined that she had bite marks across her body along with other evidence that led forensic pathologists to determine she was attacked by a domestic dog(s).

Deputies located a property near the trail and after securing a search warrant found 25 Great Dane's on the property.

2 children killed in leopard attacks in a district of Uttar Pradesh, India - 6th such death there in 2 months

Two children died in separate leopard attacks in Mahewaganj, Lakhimpur Kheri district, on Thursday and Tuesday. These incidents mark the sixth leopard attacks outside the Dudhwa forests over the past two months, resulting in four deaths and two injuries. On Thursday evening, Guddu (9) was killed by a leopard while collecting fodder from his field.

Earlier, on Tuesday night, Krishnakant Yadav (10) was attacked by a leopard while sitting on a charpoy in the courtyard of his home in Deehpur village, about 30 km away. His body was found on Wednesday morning.

DFO Sanjay Biswal said, "We have recovered leopard pugmarks in Mahewaganj. A cage has been set up to capture the leopard, and camera traps have been installed to monitor its movement.Locals are advised to stay alert ."

"In the second incident, it is unclear whether the attacker was a leopard or a hyena, as no pugmarks were found due to heavy rainfall," Biswal added.

In a tragic incident in Guwahati, Chandra Prasad Sarma, a retired teacher from Dakhin Beltola High School, succumbed to injuries inflicted by a domesticated dog. The attack occurred last Tuesday while Sarma was cleaning his verandah and roadside debris left by a severe flash flood.

The dog, owned by Tarani Das—a tenant in the house of Khagen Barman—was left unchained and launched an attack on Sarma. Despite the efforts of Sarma's family, including his son and brother-in-law, to intervene, the dog continued to be aggressive, also attacking Sarma's niece. Sarma, who had pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, was in a vulnerable state during the attack.

A 3-month-old boy died from his injuries after he was apparently attacked by dogs on the city's northwest side over the weekend, according to police.

Officers responded to Bidwell Terrace around 1 p.m. Saturday for a report that dogs had attacked an infant.

First responded found the boy with severe trauma, according to police. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police said two pit bull-type dogs believed to have attacked the boy were seized from the home, as the circumstances leading up to his death remain under investigation.

A city spokesperson expects the dogs will be euthanized once the investigation is complete and a court order is received.
