15 road sections shut after April snowstorm in Kazakhstan

Authorities were forced to close 15 road sections as snow and snowstorms grab Kazakhstan.

Over 500 units of equipment continue plowing the roads.

As earlier reported, the 0-11 grades of all secondary schools, students of the colleges of Astana switched to online learning today due to heavy snowfall.

One person is dead after being caught in an avalanche in B.C. on Saturday while snowmobiling west of the Alberta border, according to Avalanche Canada.

The organization said on its website that three people were snowmobiling in the Thunderwater Lake riding area, which is west of Invermere in B.C.'s Columbia Valley, about 180 kilometres west of Calgary.

Avalanche Canada said two riders were swept up in a slide that was triggered near a rocky feature on the slope.

"One rider managed to ride off to the side, the other was caught and buried approximately two metres deep on a bench feature mid-path," said the posting.

Some ski areas have reported snowfall totals of up to a metre (40") on their higher slopes above 2,500m, and particularly above 3,000m, in the Alps over the last five days.

The cold, snowy weather has led skiers and boarders in the mountains at present to compare mid-April to mid-Spring.

About 80% of ski areas in the Alps have already ended their 22-23 seasons however and more will close from Monday.

Italy: 3 killed after avalanche near French border

The men were taking a mountain guide course in the Aosta Valley when the avalanche swept them away. The course leader survived the avalanche, alerting emergency services after descending to the valley.

A mountain rescue team recovered on Friday the bodies of three Italian skiers, after they were caught the day before in an avalanche in the border area between France and Italy. while training to be Alpine guides.

The National Alpine Rescue Corps resumed their search for the missing men, having suspended it on Thursday due to poor weather conditions.

The bodies of the men were taken to Aosta for formal identification.

An avalanche in northwestern B.C. killed one heliskier and left three others injured Tuesday afternoon (April 11).

A group of five was touring around a remote mountain lodge about 150 kilometres north of Stewart when they were caught in the slide, Last Frontier Heliskiing said in a statement. Three of them were injured and one died.

BC Emergency Health Services said it responded with three ambulance crews to the area at 3:37 p.m. and took one person to hospital via air ambulance. It didn't comment on the condition of any of the other skiers.

There's been a disaster on the world's tallest peak.

Three Sherpa climbers were navigating the Khumbu Icefall on Mount Everest when a serac on the glacier above them collapsed. According to reports in The Himalayan Times and the website Everest Chronicle, the three Sherpas climbers were buried by the avalanche on Wednesday morning and were reported missing after a series of snowstorms in the region had created unstable snow conditions.

The following video shows the massive avalanche that occurred on Wednesday, which was shared by climber Lakpa T. Sherpa and uploaded to his Instagram account:

And forecasters say flurries are possible through Thursday night. Some spots could see up to an inch of snow.

Mauna Kea Access Road is closed above the 9,200-foot elevation given the inclement weather.

Snowbasin resort in Utah breaks historic snowfall record with 600 inches

Snowbasin, UT, has seen a record snowfall of 600 inches this season, beating its previous record by a mind-blowing 125 inches. The 22/23 season has seen endless powder days, but the weather is slowly shifting, and temperatures are warming up, and spring skiing is officially here.

Snowbasin announced two weeks ago that the resort will stay open until April 23, 2023. Here is an update on what to expect for the next two weeks of spring skiing at Snowbasin.
Although it is hard to believe, spring is here, and this historic season is coming to an end. We've enjoyed endless powder days, record snowfall, and all-time conditions. After experiencing our longest ski season in history and pushing things out as far as we can, we have to start scaling back our operations. We have already begun saying goodbye to some of our incredible team members that are off to their next season's adventures, and with these hard farewells comes the need to prioritize our offerings for the remainder of the season. We hope you enjoy the final weeks as we bring this incredible season to a close. Thank you for being a part of history with us this year at Snowbasin. Rare snow and hail hit Al Baha region of Saudi Arabia, disrupting traffic

Vehicles stuck in Al Baha.
Some parts of Saudi Arabia, particularly the Al Baha region, were hit by unusual hail and snowfall on Monday morning.

Cumulus thunderstorms were responsible for the unusual precipitation, which resulted in the closure of several roads and disruption of traffic in the area.

Video clips shared on social media showed accumulation of hail that caused vehicles to get stuck on the closed roads.

Emergency teams from the municipality had to remove stones and hail from the roads while the city's parks turned white.
