Gander International Airport is one of Canada's most modern, full-service international airports.Over the years, celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Woody Allen and Barbra Streisand have passed through. These visitors may have been stars, but on one night in 1974, Gander had visitors that were truly out of this world.
On Oct. 10, a report of a possible sighting of an unidentified flying object (UFO) was made to the Gander Airport detail office of the RCMP.
According to RCMP records, the sighting was reported by an air traffic controller, a three-year veteran of the Gander Air Traffic Control Centre.
At the time of the sighting the controller, who was also a pilot, was flying a Cessna aircraft at an altitude of approximately 5,000 feet with one passenger. Both men were said to be mature and responsible individuals.
The Cessna was returning from Deer Lake to Gander, and the flight was progressing normally through clear skies with occasional clouds. About 40 miles northwest of Gander, the pilot and passenger spotted a strange light almost directly beneath them. The object was described as being a solitary green luminous light at an altitude of approximately 3,000 feet.
The light seemed to be triangular or delta-shaped. At first, it was on for only two to four seconds and then blinked off. It then blinked on and off in a regular pattern. As time passed the blinking ceased and it became a steady light.

Witness Statement:Looking straight upwards, I saw at hi-alt 3 satellite type objects ( pin dot white light, no twinkling) moving north-n-e. Two of them where on a slight convergence route the other crossed their path going north. The two convergence objects; one of which was of a slightly faster than normal satellite speed, while the other was moving very fast and clean (3 or 4 times faster than a normal sat type object, no trails I was quite impressed with this fast object!

Witness Statement: Happened to look out the window and saw a very large, bright yellowey orange star type of object - bit like a giant sparkler - not as diffused a light as a chinese lantern, which I think I have seen before. My wife witnessed this latest sighting too, as did my daughter, albeit only slightly as the light moved swiftly from north to south, fading as it got lost in cloud.

Witness Statement: A light attracted my attention as I glanced out of my living room window, I thought it was from a car in the road but then realised it was flames that I was seeing.
I said to my partner as I lept to the door 'My god there's a plane on fire' (we live under the flight path for Leeds Bradford Airport). When outside the house I could still see the object heading away from me in a SE direction, giving of a very bright orange light that still appeared to be burning, my partner fetched some field glasses and I watched the object disappear behind the rooftops at the end of the street.

Witness Statement: Putting rubbish in the bins tonight I was startled by a broad streak of brilliant green light, almost florescent or neon, which crossed the sky from the east behind me towards the west. I have never seen anything like this before in my 54 years. If pressed, I would say it was an extremely long teardrop shape, with a tail of the same colour behind it.

Witness Statement: Letting our dog out in the early hours of this morning, my partner and I saw a large bright orange light moving at great speed across the sky. To our surprise it was followed at regular intervals by seven more. They were equi-distant apart and were traveling at exactly the same speed. They moved from north to south then veered off eastwards and disappeared. Although the colour was a vivid orange they were certainly not Chinese lanterns (I have seen these before)

Witness Statement: Whist walking through the precinct in Bingham, I was watching a bi-plane go over with my 2 year old son. My attention was attracted to 3 white/metallic spheres "flying" in a perfect equilateral triangle. As I watched, the "back" two spheres shot straight towards each other. My first impression was that there was going to be some sort of collision, but they just flew right by each other. For the next 3 minutes, I watched all three spheres perform impressive aerobatic maneuvers.

Witness Statement: I don't know if its coincidental but last night 05/8/2010 I was driving up Mortal Ash Hill in Scunthorpe at 23.30 and at the bottom of the hill I could see some lights in the sky that were at the top of the hill. As I drove up they were getting closer and closer but weren't moving. I first thought it was a police helicopter but as I got closer I knew it wasn't. It was triangular with red and purple lights on either end, it was hovering around 100ft in the air above the road but above the trees.

Witness Statement: I am a supervisor working on the aquatics centre for the 2012 Olympics. A guy that I supervise ran up to me this morning asking if I had just seen something in the sky. When I asked him what he had seen he described a triangle which had appeared quickly and was moving at speed, it stopped for a second or two and moved away, it then returned, always within sight then it shot away at an incredible speed.

Witness Statement: Tonight when I was walking back from the shop on Golden Gates, I saw 12 bright red/orange oblong lights (shaped like boomerangs) traveling in the sky from above Towyn towards the windmills in the sea around Rhyl. These big red/orange long objects were traveling in straight lines towards a bright white light above the ocean. The lights were traveling in perfect straight lines at high speed. When they reached the white light they just disappeared into the light.
