Witness Statement: A light attracted my attention as I glanced out of my living room window, I thought it was from a car in the road but then realised it was flames that I was seeing.

I said to my partner as I lept to the door 'My god there's a plane on fire' (we live under the flight path for Leeds Bradford Airport). When outside the house I could still see the object heading away from me in a SE direction, giving of a very bright orange light that still appeared to be burning, my partner fetched some field glasses and I watched the object disappear behind the rooftops at the end of the street.

There was a aircraft at a much higher altitude traveling in the opposite direction. The object was not flying in the direction of Leeds Bradford and seemed to flying in a controlled manner at about the same speed as aircraft going to the airport. It was after the object disappered and I was trying to rationalise what I had just witnessed, the fact that there had been no sound from the object even though it was flying below the scattered cloudbase. I have been interested in flying/aviation for over 30 years. But what I witnessed this evening is one of the strangest things I have ever seen. I have not reported this to the Police ,they have enough to do on a Saturday night; and I could not get hold of Leeds Bradford ATC. I don't believe in little green men or 'That the truth is out there'. But that object was flying in a controlled manner, and was too low to be space junk or a shooting star; both thing I have previously seen. Finally I was sober and am not the sort of person who runs round trying to draw attention to myself, I am usually the opposite
