Insecticides mimic melatonin, creating higher risk of diabetes

According to a new study, synthetic chemicals found in some insecticides can bind to melatonin receptors, creating a higher risk for people to develop diabetes and other metabolic disorders.

UB scientists provide first evidence that carbamates can upset circadian rhythms.

Synthetic chemicals commonly found in insecticides and garden products bind to the receptors that govern our biological clocks, University at Buffalo researchers have found. The research suggests that exposure to these insecticides adversely affects melatonin receptor signaling, creating a higher risk for metabolic diseases such as diabetes.

Published online on Dec. 27 in Chemical Research in Toxicology, the research combined a big data approach, using computer modeling on millions of chemicals, with standard wet-laboratory experiments. It was funded by a grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, part of the National Institutes of Health.

Disruptions in human circadian rhythms are known to put people at higher risk for diabetes and other metabolic diseases but the mechanism involved is not well-understood.

German company ordered to pay $90 million for defective breast implants

A French court has ordered a German product safety certifying company to pay €3,000 (some US$ 3,200) to each of the 20,000 plaintiffs who bought breast implants approved by the company, which later turned out to be flawed.

The company or TUV as it is known - German businesses which certify the safety and rule-compliance of all kinds of products - was found liable by a commercial court in Toulon on Friday for certifying breast implants produced by the French firm Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) which contained cheaper industrial silicone instead of specialised material, AFP reported.

The initial compensation to be paid to 20,000 women is €3,000 (about US$ 3,200), however, "The final amount will be determined after an assessment, but (TUV) is required to make a provisional payment of 3,000 euros to each person," lawyer Laurent Gaudon, who represents 7,000 women, said.

The TUV is planning to file an appeal against the ruling, just as it did in 2013 when 1,700 PIP clients took their case to court and won. However, the ruling was overturned in 2015 by the appeal court in Aix-en-Provence which found the TUV had been misled by PIP, fulfilled its control obligations and "made no mistake."

Comment: Regardless of how they're manufactured, all breast implants come with risks.

Examining Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s claim that the CDC "Owns over 20 vaccine patents."

pin cushion
Mr. Kennedy is in very safe territory by reporting that the CDC has over 20 patents that create vast, undisclosed conflicts of interests in vaccine safety.

This past week, President-Elect Trump invited Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to discuss Mr. Kennedy leading a vaccine safety commission. The mainstream media coverage of the meeting was widespread and furious.

The vaccine industry and its media lap dogs do not want their corruption exposed in any official forum, and they have pointed their fury at Mr. Trump and Mr. Kennedy.

We have seen a great deal of media on Kennedy and his vaccine safety and corruption claims in the last week. The nice thing about that is this - because he has been in the mercury fight for so long, and started investigating the claims of moms of vaccine injured children more than a decade ago, his coverage has returned the spotlight to the corruption that was uncovered in the early days of the realization that the vaccine program was hurting our kids.

The speed of hypocrisy: How America got hooked on legal meth

A terrible number of words have been written about Breaking Bad, yet none have struck upon the irony at its core. For all of the cult hit's vaunted fine-brush realism and sly cultural references, the show never even winked at the real world "blue" that grew up alongside it.

During the five years Heisenberg spent as a blue-meth cook, the nation experienced a nonfictional explosion in the manufacture and sale of sapphire pills and azure capsules containing amphetamine. This other "blue," known by its trade names Adderall and Vyvanse, found its biggest market in classrooms like Walter White's. As this blue speed is made and sold in anodyne corporate environments, the drama understandably focused on blue meth and its buyers, usually depicted as jittery tweakers picking at lesions and wearing rags on loan from the cannibal gangs of Cormac McCarthy's The Road.

For presenting such a compelling one-sided cartoon of speed in America, Breaking Bad deserves recognition as a modern day Reefer Madness. That 1937 film immortalized the selective attentions of the first drug war, in which hysteria was stoked over Mexican marijuana but nothing was said about that era's brisk drugstore trade in Benzedrine, the patented speed of the Great Depression.

Comment: This article was written back into 2014, since then the 'legal speed' issue has continued to grow and make billions for Big Pharma!
Today the $4 billion ADD drug industry is about ten times its 1996 size, and Adderall is the reigning market leader.

The vaccine did it: Virus in MMR caused devastating brain damage & death of a five year old

nurse needle
A toddler who developed severe neurological symptoms including blindness associated with chronic encephalitis and died following MMR vaccination was found to have vaccine-derived mumps virus in his brain, a new study reports.

Published in the current issue of the journal, Acta Neuropathologica, the study is the first of its kind to conclusively demonstrate chronic brain damage in the form of "panencephalitis" due to a vaccine-derived strain of the mumps virus. In light of a recent epidemic of mumps in highly vaccinated populations, the research raises questions about the dangers of live vaccine virus mutations and about public health claims that the MMR is a completely safe and effective vaccine without serious side effects.

MMR, BRAIN INFECTION AND DEATH

The study describes an 18-month old infant who was diagnosed with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease (SCID) — a serious immune system defect that may follow infection — four months after he received the triple Measles Mumps Rubella vaccine that contains live viruses.

The baby was treated for the illness but six months later became ill again with fever, rash, diarrhoea, lethargy and seizures. MRI scans of his brain showed evidence of encephalitis — brain inflammation due to infection.

Psycho-acoustic medicine: Healing with binaural beats

music hammock
While the term psycho-acoustic medicine may be relatively new in our world, the practices of using sound and frequencies to impact the physical and emotional health of the body has been used since the beginning of time. From Gregorian chants in churches, to the chanting of Tibetan monks, to Native American drumming, song and sound have been a catalyst in stimulating health and healing for the body and mind in all cultures. The definition of psycho-acoustic medicine is the science of how music and sound impact the nervous system, psychologically and physiologically. Simply, how it is how sound impacts the mind and the body.

One particular area of this science of sound is that of "binaural beats." Binaural beats were first theorized in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove but was first scientifically tested and proven in 1973 by Dr. Gerald Oster, a medical doctor and biophysicist, when he published his finding in a research paper called Auditory Beats in the Brain. The study opened up a whole new area of science as it showed how sound affects the way and how quickly the brain learns new information, mood control, sleep patterns and healing responses within the body, among many other items.

How Binaural Beats Influence The Brain and Body

To begin, let's first look at what binaural beats exactly are. Dr. Suzanne Evans Morris, Ph.D., who is a speech-language pathologist, states:
"Research shows that different frequencies presented to each ear through stereo headphones... create a difference tone (or binaural beat) as the brain puts together the two tones it actually hears. Through EEG monitoring the difference tone is identified by a change in the electrical pattern produced by the brain. For example, frequencies of 200 Hz and 210 Hz produce a binaural beat frequency of 10 Hz (The difference in 210 Hz and 200 Hz is 10 Hz). Monitoring of the brain's electricity (EEG) shows that the brain produces increased 10 Hz activity with equal frequency and amplitude of the wave form in both hemispheres of the brain (left and right hemisphere)."

SOTT Focus: The Health & Wellness Show: Connecting the Dots: Travelling through 2017

health app
2017 is here and it promises to be an interesting year in health news. On this episode of the Health and Wellness Show we'll cover just some of the topics that have caught our eyes.

Aerotoxic Syndrome: Ever heard of it? We hadn't either, but apparently this scourge is one of the biggest cover-ups in the airline industry. Speaking of traveling, the CDC is taking stepping up its ability to deal with 'quarantinable communicable diseases'. That illustrious agency is once again proposing a rule to screen, test and quarantine people who maybe be "sick". The CDC introduced this scheme in 2005, but after a wave of critical comments, including from the travel industry, they shelved the rule. Why, all of a sudden, is it back in play?

If having your travel hampered is making you depressed, don't worry. There are new, high-tech health apps to help you cope with life...while tracking your every move and sending your data to concerned professionals.

On a more positive note the vaccine issue maybe getting some more attention in 2017 thanks to Robert F, Kennedy Jr. and his proposed new role as chair on the Vaccine Safety and Scientific Integrity Commission.

Join us for a lively discussion and, as always, stay tuned for Zoya's Pet Health segment where the topic will be ketogenic diets for dogs.

Surprising benefits of melatonin: Alleviating depression, treating autoimmune disorders and fighting cancer

melatonin
The hormone melatonin plays many important roles in your health, from helping you sleep better to strengthening your immune system, slowing down brain aging, reducing migraine attacks, protecting bone mass, and preventing cancer.

Lack of sun exposure during the day combined with artificial lighting late into the night disrupts your biological clock and hence, your melatonin production, and this disruption can provoke a number of adverse health effects.

In fact, melatonin has been the subject of preclinical research on over 100 different disease applications, many of which go hand in hand with your need for sleep.

Melatonin for Sleep and Beyond

Your master biological clock resides in the suprachiasmatic nucleus of your brain (SCN), which is part of your hypothalamus. Based on signals of light and darkness, your SCN tells your pineal gland when it's time to secrete melatonin, and when to turn it off.

In scientific studies, melatonin supplementation has been shown to help people fall asleep faster and stay asleep, experience less restlessness, and prevent daytime fatigue.

Keep in mind that you may only need a very minimal dose. I recommend taking only 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg to start, and adjusting upward from there. Taking higher doses, such as 3 mg, can sometimes make you more wakeful instead of sleepier, so start low and adjust your dose as needed.

It's official: HPV vaccine, the most dangerous vaccine yet

HPV vaccine
Anyone daring to suggest that a vaccine might present a risk, especially to children as the most vulnerable members of our society, are usually shot down in flames. Health authorities have tried their best to continue telling everyone that HPV vaccines (note use of plural as there are three different types available) are safe, despite ongoing research suggesting otherwise.

A study just released by a World Health Organization (WHO) monitoring centre in Sweden shows that adverse event reports received from national authorities — and these will represent only a fraction of those actually experienced — show a tendency to produce clusters of serious adverse events that include complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome(POTS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) that exceeds any other vaccine.

GMO vaccine released a decade ago

The genetically engineered vaccine, first introduced for mass vaccination around 10 years ago, has been delivered to around 80 million girls, women and, in some countries, boys.

Billions wasted on cholesterol myth

The alleged benefits of lowering our cholesterol have never materialized and we have wasted tens of billions of dollars over the last two decades, deluded by a myth. It's time to drop that myth.
statins
© Alamy Stock Photo Earlier this year scientists said controversy surrounding the cholesterol-reducing pills had put patients' health at risk.
Though it may appear to my readers that I have cried wolf far too often on cholesterol-lowering drugs, I'm prepared to howl at the moon at least one more time. If you've read my columns over the last decade, you've seen me rant about the futility and absolute waste involved in our society's collective obsession with cholesterol and our foolishness in swallowing a paradigm promoted by the pharmaceutical industry and the specialists in their employ. The alleged benefits of lowering our cholesterol have never materialized and we have wasted tens of billions of dollars over the last two decades, deluded by a myth. It's time to drop that myth.

Ever since the early 1990s when the first cholesterol lowering drugs were being introduced to the market, no one had really ever heard of "high cholesterol" and certainly no one was going to their doctor just to get something checked that they never knew existed, that they couldn't feel and which was responsible for zero symptoms. Then along came the blockbuster statins and physicians followed guidelines that told them a patient's cholesterol level was an important risk factor for death by coronary heart disease (CHD). The hypothesis said that if you measured and lowered the cholesterol of patients deemed "high risk," those patients would live longer and avoid dying from heart attacks. So how's that working out?

Comment: Vascular surgeon: Why I've ditched statins for good
GPs are, by definition, generalists. They don't have time to read and analyse data from every paper on every medical condition. Even so, in a recent survey by Pulse magazine, six in 10 GPs opposed the draft proposal to lower the risk level at which patients are prescribed statins. And 55 per cent said they would not take statins themselves or recommend them to a relative, based on the proposed new guidelines.

If that doesn't speak volumes, I don't know what does.
