It's bearly believable.

Japan is in the midst of a wave of deadly bear attacks, with seven people killed and 88 others mauled in the deadliest month for such incidents in the nation's history, according to reports.

The Land of the Rising Sun's Environment Ministry reported the record-high October figures that capped off a six month period, beginning in April, that saw a total of 12 people killed and 196 mauled by bears, NHK reported.

The incidents have occurred in 21 of the country's 47 prefectures and have spread from mostly rural areas to now plaguing urban centers.

One shocking video taken by a security camera in Daisen, a city of 76,000 people, showed an 82-year-old woman attacked from behind while casually crossing the street on a morning walk on Oct. 11, according to NTV News.

Hayli Gubbi volcanic eruption.
Hayli Gubbi, Ethiopia's long-dormant volcano, located in the Erta Ale Range, has erupted for the first time in 10,000 years, spewing towering ash columns that drifted across the Red Sea toward Oman and Yemen. Scientists say the eruption marks one of the most extraordinary volcanic awakenings in the region's recorded history.

The explosive eruption began around 8:30 a.m. UTC on Sunday, according to VolcanoDiscovery, citing an advisory from the Toulouse Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC). Satellite data later confirmed the presence of a massive ash cloud rising an estimated 10 - 15 km into the atmosphere.

The eruption may have been unexpected, but there were still signs. From the Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volanic Activity Report, there was:
According to the UK Centre for Observation and Modelling of Earthquakes Volcanoes and Tectonics (COMET) response reports, explosive activity at Erta Ale (12 km NW) on 15 July was accompanied by an intrusion of magma along a dike that propagated SE towards Hayli Gubbi. Sentinel satellite imagery on 16 July showed a line of fissure vents that produced lava flows outside the S caldera of Erta Ale (6 km S of the northern pit craters). Another group of four fissure vents opened further along the rift to the SE, with the most distant only 2 km from the Hayli Gubbi crater. No lava lakes were seen in the pit craters after 18 July, but satellite data indicated uplift in the region during 21 July-3 August, and an anomalous white cloud within Hayli Gubbi's crater was observed on 25 July. Satellite data showed that the white plume covered the crater floor in most of the images (several per month) at least through 18 November.

Saturday's intense snowfall caused major disruptions across western Hungary, leaving several settlements inaccessible, closing roads, and prompting firefighters to assist stranded vehicles. In many areas, more than 10 - 15 centimetres of snow fell, significantly hindering transport.

Snowfall leaves several settlements inaccessible by bus

According to the MÁV Group, multiple settlements in four counties - Baranya, Somogy, Veszprém, and Zala - were already unreachable by bus on Saturday evening due to deteriorating road conditions. In Baranya, Liget became inaccessible; in Somogy, Kaposdada and Zsippó; while in Veszprém County, Bakonybél, Hidegkút, Jásd, Kislőd, Lókút, Öcs, and Tés could no longer be reached, Hungarian News Agency MTI reported.

The situation was particularly severe in Zala County. Bagod, Becsvölgye, Csapi, Kustánszeg, Milejszeg, Nemeshetés, Nemespátró, Vaspör, Zalacséb, Zalaháshágy, and Zalaújlak all became unreachable by regional bus services. In several districts of Zalaegerszeg - including Szenterzsébethegy, Bazita, and Ebergény - local bus services also came to a halt.

Heavy snowfall blankets northern Spain after Arctic cold snap rolls in - with temperatures plummeting to as low as -10c

mmmmm
HEAVY snowfall has blanketed large swathes of northern Spain this weekend after a teeth-chattering Arctic blast plunged temperatures across the peninsula.

Earlier this week, the state weather service Aemet issued an orange weather alert warning that flakes would fall - and the predictions proved correct with much of Spain feeling the freeze.

With temperatures up to ten degrees lower than normal for mid-November, the snowline in elevated areas dropped as low as 500 metres.

Temperatures plunged to -10C near the Pyrenees as the wintery weather set in, with snow causing widespread disruption on elevated roads.

To make matters worse, gusts of over 60km/h have added an extra chill to the cold conditions.

From Sunday, the mercury is forecast to finally climb back towards levels more normal for late autumn.

Deadly floods in Albania after days of torrential rain hit region

MMMMMMM
At least one person has died after days of torrential rain brought heavy flooding across Albania, police said Saturday.

Conditions remain difficult in rural regions, including the southern village of Dushar, where 30 families are reportedly stranded because flooding has made access roads impassable.

Police said the body of a 76-year-old woman was found after water levels receded in the flooded southeastern municipality of Devoll. Her son had reported her missing and a search conducted by soldiers on Friday failed to find her. Authorities believe she may have been swept away by strong currents.

The rainfall caused the Vjosa and Seman rivers to burst their banks and flood large tracts of agricultural land. The Vjosa river runs through southern Albania while the Seman flows through the low-lying Myzeqeja plain.

Southwest Bulgaria was hit by intense rainfall over the past 24 hours, triggering localized flooding, drainage overflows, alerts and emergency responses in several towns, including Sandanski, Petrich, Rupite, Razlog, and Blagoevgrad.

In Sandanski, the municipality processed around ten flooding reports, Mayor Atanas Stoyanov told BTA. Local authorities and fire service teams responded with heavy machinery, including excavators. The most affected areas were the Melnik region and the villages of Slave and Novo Delchevo. Fire crews are clearing mud and debris from main streets as conditions begin to normalize.

The Petrich region was also severely impacted. More than ten reports of flooded basements were filed with the fire service, said chief inspector Stoyan Tilev. According to local meteorological data, 50 liters per square meter of rain fell in the last 24 hours, accompanied by hail and intense thunderstorm activity. In the Podgorie area, rainfall reached 70 liters per square meter.

Western Greece faces massive destruction after torrential rains

Western Greece is facing widespread destruction after torrential rains triggered severe flooding, landslides, and massive disruptions across Epirus, the Ionian Islands, and parts of Thessaly. Emergency crews are conducting ongoing rescue operations as multiple regions remain under a state of emergency.

Intense rainfall has inundated Philippiada, where streets have turned into rivers and the municipal stadium has become a mud-filled lake. The road between Old and New Philippiada has been cut off, while EMAK rescue teams continue extracting residents trapped in flooded homes.

Authorities have closed the "Tsitos" bridge due to dangerous water levels. In Aspropotamos, landslides have severed roads and left several areas without power.

The Hellenic Fire Service received 367 emergency calls between Friday morning and 4:30 p.m. for water pumping, fallen trees, and assistance operations.
