The Civil Protection authority on Friday morning located the missing tourists. They had fled to a cave in a mountainous part of Porto Moniz and an operation to rescue them from the area was under way, it said on social media.

Meteorologists have raised the flood alert level in central Vietnam to four in the country's five-level natural disaster risk system amid torrential rain continuing to batter localities in the region, especially Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue.

Heavy rain turned major streets in Da Nang into rivers on October 12 - 13, with many places being left under water of between one and two metres deep. Relevant forces, including young volunteers and soldiers, were dispatched to evacuate 5,000 local people from flooded areas.

Drivers did their best to navigate flooding this morning after a deluge of heavy rainfall across the island.

The heaviest of the rainfall was recorded during the "rush hour" commute and around the same time as high tide, exacerbating flooding.

Motorists said the roads were like "rivers" that seemed almost impassable in places, including Woodlands Road, a common flooding site.

However, some made the best of the situation, with a recording of a man rowing a kayak on Bakery Lane spreading on social media.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works said that the Government was aware of flooding issues on some roads and would continue to work to address it.

Snow stakes that measure how much fresh powder has landed show about 10 inches of snow at Aspen Snowmass since the start of an ongoing storm in Colorado. More snow is expected to fall into Friday morning.

This is on par with the prediction for the area, give or take a couple inches. Other ski areas in the Aspen area show about five to six inches on their snow stakes.

Nearby, Independence Pass, which reaches 12,095 feet of elevation, is also under a temporary closure. Closures of this nature are normal when wintery weather rolls through, with the seasonal closure for this iconic pass typically being put in place around November 7.

More snow is expected to keep falling in Colorado, totaling 18 to 24 inches in some mountainous areas in the northern portion of the state.

Those traveling mountain roads should proceed with caution, as roads will likely be slick and visibility may be limited.

A foot of fresh October snow in 24 hours at Alta Ski Area, Utah

nnnnnnn
Winter has temporarily arrived in Utah and Alta Ski Area saw 9-12 inches over the past 24 hours. It ain't deep, but it's enough for The Daily POW guys to get out there and make some turns down Gunsight.
"Winter has arrived in Utah and the storm total at Alta was 9 inches from this recent storm but it definitely felt deeper up towards the top of Gunsight. Most other areas looked very bony still and Gunsight had a solid ribbon of white from top to bottom so our decision was easy.

The top entry was a little rocky but we've skied it on worse. Skier's right had the deepest snow. Our exit out Greely Hill was bushy good lovin'. We cruised back to the car happy to officially start the 2023-2024 winter."

Multiple tornadoes touched down on both coasts of Florida Thursday morning, leaving a trail of damage in several communities.

Survey teams from the National Weather Service toured areas in Crystal River and Clearwater. Preliminary data shows at least EF-2 tornadoes at both locations. According to the FOX Forecast Center, the tornado that hit Crystal River was the strongest twister to hit Citrus County since an F-2 tornado that also struck Crystal River on Sept. 3, 1998.

Chilling video captured by Michelle Dal Pos showed a waterspout as it moved onshore near the Dunedin Causeway, located 5 miles north of Clearwater, Florida. It struck under the cover of darkness and was later confirmed as a tornado.
