Severe storm and flooding in Mendoza, Argentina

mmmm
In Mendoza, Civil Defense deployed nearly 150 emergency operations after the severe storm that hit the province last Saturday, a situation that also triggered an alert from Aguas Mendocinas for the possible interruption or disruption of the drinking water service.

The weather phenomenon primarily affected the departments of Godoy Cruz and Las Heras , where most of the evacuations, rescues, and damage to homes occurred. The provincial agency confirmed that monitoring continues, as unstable weather conditions are expected to persist in the region for the coming days.

In its most recent report, Civil Defense detailed that the combination of heavy rains and the opening of floodgates at the Cipolletti Dam increased the turbidity of the raw water arriving at the water treatment plants in the Greater Mendoza Metropolitan Area and the surrounding foothills. This prompted the water utility, Aguas Mendocinas (Aysam), to warn of possible water service interruptions and request that residents use water sparingly in the coming hours until the system is restored.

'Unprecedented' cold weather rocks Costa Rica's capital

cold weather ahead
Residents of the capital awoke Monday to a biting, unfamiliar chill as temperatures plummeted to a historic low, shattering a record that has stood for over three decades. The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) confirmed that its primary station in San José registered a temperature of just 12.2°C, marking the coldest morning in the city's modern meteorological history.

This figure is not merely a new low for the month of February, typically one of the drier and warmer periods of the year; it represents the absolute minimum temperature ever recorded at this location since comprehensive measurements began. The event has sent a shiver through the Central Valley, a region accustomed to temperate, "eternal spring" conditions, prompting discussions about infrastructure readiness and public health in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.

The recent historic cold snap has dominated conversations, impacting everything from daily commutes to agriculture. But beyond the meteorological marvel, these extreme weather events carry significant legal and business implications. To shed light on these issues, from labor rights in frigid conditions to potential insurance claims, TicosLand.com consulted with expert lawyer Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas from the prestigious firm Bufete de Costa Rica.

Likely tornadoes destroy homes, wrap mobile homes around trees in Indiana and Illinois

mmmmm
Suspected tornadoes tore through parts of southern Indiana and Illinois on Thursday night as the first significant severe weather event in months swept across the Midwest.

Communities were left with widespread damage after what meteorologists believe were multiple tornadoes embedded within powerful thunderstorms.

Footage from storm chaser and photojournalist Brian Emfinger shows extensive destruction near Flat Rock, Illinois.

"Homes are moved off their foundations and mobile homes wrapped around trees," Emfinger said.

According to Emfinger, multiple people were trapped and injured inside damaged homes before first responders arrived. Emergency crews worked through the night to assist residents.
