Norfolk, Hampton and the Chesapeake Bay saw heavy flooding, waterspouts and a possible tornado on Sunday.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue says it responded to several reports of a tornado that touched down in the area of the Ocean View Golf Course Sunday morning.

In a tweet at 11:37 a.m., Norfolk Fire Chief Worley reported that there is minor damage, but no injuries.

The tornado has not been confirmed, but the region was under a tornado warning at the time.

Several WAVY-TV viewers also reported seeing a waterspout over the Chesapeake Bay Sunday morning.

Heavy rains cause spectacular flash flood in Toledo town, Spain

flood
Torrential rain on Saturday saw a flash flood rip through the village of Cebolla, in the Spanish province of Toledo, unfortunately coinciding with the celebration of local fiestas. The waters, which were flowing from the nearby Sangüesa creek, swept away vehicles in their wake, and also flooded basements and buildings, including the local health center.

Locals told Spanish news agency EFE that the flooding is "the worst seen in recent years," given that the creek often overflows around this time of year when there is a major storm, but the conditions are not usually so serious.

In the video above, which was recorded by witnesses, one woman is seen holding on to the outside of a window by the security bars, as the flooding sweeps by.

This weekend saw heavy rain in many parts of Spain, but fortunately, the spectacular flash flood in Cebolla, which has a population of 3,000, left no injuries in its wake.

Antarctic iceberg A-68 is on the move after year-long standstill

The Antarctic iceberg A-68 has begun to spin. After a year-long standstill, the massive chunk of ice is on the move.

A-68 split from the Larsen C ice shelf last July. Scientists predicted the giant iceberg would begin to fragment shortly after its separation.

But over the last year, A-68 has remained mostly intact, anchored to the Bawden Ice Rise, a shallow seabed near the edge of the Larsen ice shelf. Scientists used satellite images to monitor the iceberg, but until now, there was little movement to report.

Now, just more than year after it first separated, A-68 is beginning to drift again.

Potential for tremendous rainfall from Hurricane Florence as 'atmospheric brick wall' sets up

hurricane florence rainfall
© NOAA/WPCThere is potential for tremendous rainfall amounts over the next seven days from Hurricane Florence in the Carolinas and much of the Mid-Atlantic region.

Overview

All eyes are focused on Hurricane Florence as we begin the new week and chances for a major impact on the US east coast continue to grow. Florence is now churning slowly towards the US east coast as a category 2 hurricane and may make a landfall late Thursday or early Friday somewhere along the Carolina coastline - likely with "major" hurricane status. Very strong high pressure ridging is now building at upper levels of the atmosphere across southeastern Canada and the northwestern Atlantic and this will be a key player in the push of Florence towards the east coast over the next few days. In addition, this very strong high pressure ridge will eventually act as an "atmospheric brick wall" for Florence once it reaches the east coast and the brakes will be put on any attempt at a northward advance by the storm. This eventual slow down in the northward advance of Florence will allow for an extended period of heavy rainfall and the result could be tremendous rainfall amounts in the Carolinas and much of the Mid-Atlantic region.

Tropical Storm Florence was upgraded to a hurricane on Sunday morning by the National Hurricane Center.

Florence is now classified as a Category 1 hurricane, and is currently expected to hit the southeastern coast of the U.S.

Governors in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina have all declared states of emergency over the past two days in anticipation of the storm.

At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said Florence is expected to become a Category 4 hurricane with winds that could reach up to speeds of 150 mph.

"Assume, presume that a major hurricane is going to hit right smack dab in the middle of South Carolina," said McMaster, urging South Carolinians to prepare for the worst. Eight hundred members of the National Guard have been activated in the state.

Hurricane Florence has maximum sustained winds of 90 mph as of 11 p.m. Sunday, and is 685 miles southeast of Bermuda, moving west at 7 mph.

The current forecast track predicts that Florence will approach the southeast U.S. coast on Thursday.

Cluster of small earthquakes shake New Zealand as M6.8 quake rocks Kermadec Islands

An earthquake expert says a cluster of small quakes which has rocked parts of the country is unlikely to be related to a major shake near the Kermadec Islands.

A Geonet spokesman said there is no definite way to tell but Kiwis should not think the shaking throughout the country is related to the Kermadec quake.

The spokesman also told the Herald there should be little concern the Kermadec quake would trigger a big quake in New Zealand.

"You can't make any guarantees but there's no reason to think this would trigger something on the Alpine Fault or any other major fault in New Zealand," the spokesman said.

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck south of the Kermadec Islands at 4.19pm and the Ministry of Civil Defence warned it could trigger a tsunami.

However, the Ministry was quick to quash any possibility of a tsunami impacting New Zealand as a result of the earthquake.

The spectacular clip was filmed by Sunder Thongam in Bangalore, India as he was reportedly leaving his home at around 5:30 pm when he noticed mysterious-looking clouds.

A Bangalore resident has shared an exceptionally beautiful video of a sky that seemed to have caught fire, with "flames" being seen between darker clouds. The footage, which unsurprisingly went viral, was widely compared to the well-known invasion scene from the 1996 movie "Independence Day."

It remains unclear what exactly set the sky "on fire," but some YouTubers suggested that it looked like a "space explosion," since a bizarre "fireball" seemed to have hit the sky.

Floating crane hits Crimean bridge during heavy storm, no major damage sustained

Videos shot by locals show a large floating crane pressed against the Crimean Bridge after it was sent adrift by heavy winds. The collision led to the partial closure of a road section as the crane had to be towed back.

The large yellow crane hit the recently opened 19km-long bridge during a raging storm in the Kerch Strait on Saturday morning. The floating construction was dragging anchors and collided with one of the bridge's pillars.
