A 21-year-old man was killed in a lion attack in Gujarat's Amreli district on July 8 after a group allegedly engaged in illegal lion watching entered a forest area near the boundary of Antalya Revenue area and the Luwaria Reserve Forest in Liliya taluka.
The victim, identified as Sohil Memon, died in the attack, prompting the Forest Department to launch a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The attack occurred between 7.30 and 8 pm. Senior forest officials, including Shetrunji Division Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Chirag Amin, rushed to the Liliya Range Office and initiated rescue, investigation and legal proceedings.
According to DCF Chirag Amin, preliminary findings suggest a lion and a lioness were in their mating period when the group allegedly entered the area for illegal lion watching. Officials suspect the animals were disturbed or provoked, following which the male lion turned aggressive and attacked Sohil Memon.
A four-year-old girl died after being bitten multiple times by a dog in eastern Germany on Wednesday, police said.
According to a police spokeswoman, the dog was known to the family.
The attack occurred in the town of Drosa in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Emergency responders were unable to save the child and could only confirm her death at the scene, police said.
Crisis counsellors were providing support to the girl's mother, while police officers involved in the response were also receiving psychological support, authorities said.
Police did not immediately provide further details, including how the attack occurred. The animal was taken to a shelter following the incident, they said. The public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation.

An 86-year-old woman died after being attacked by a family dog she was briefly caring for at a home in Moore.
According to the Moore Police Department, officers responded at around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, to reports of a dog attack with injuries in the area of NE 27th Street and Highland Drive.
Upon arrival, they found the woman with severe injuries and immediately began life-saving measures, including applying tourniquets to control the bleeding until paramedics arrived. She was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where she later died.
The woman's family said she was temporarily caring for the dog on behalf of a family member when the attack occurred.
The dog was removed from the home by Moore Animal Control, where it is currently being confined.
Girl, 8, killed by lightning strike in backyard of Serena, Illinois home
An 8-year-old girl was fatally struck by lightning over the holiday weekend in LaSalle County, according to authorities.
The county coroner's office was called Friday evening to the emergency room of OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa for the child, who had been struck in her backyard in Serena, authorities said.
An autopsy Sunday preliminarily confirmed she died of injuries suffered from the incident, according to the coroner's office.
A GoFundMe to support the child's mother identified the girl as Kinslee Tschida.
"Kinslee was a bright light in every sense of the word. She loved to sing, dance, and bring joy to everyone around her," the fundraiser webpage said.
"Her loud, unforgettable laugh could fill an entire room, and her smile had a way of making even the hardest days a little brighter."

A landslide buried and killed 21 forestry workers walking through a remote valley in the mountains of northwestern China, state media reported Wednesday after rescue operations ended.
Twelve others survived, seven with minor injuries, state broadcaster CCTV said. The team was heading out to clear and maintain forest land when the landslide struck shortly before 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
Footage on CCTV showed a swath of denuded mountainside that ended in the valley. The exposed earth contrasted sharply with the green, heavily forested slopes that angled up steeply on both sides under mostly clear skies.
The landslide was about 40 meters (130 feet) wide and covered roughly 5,400 square meters (58,000 square feet), Longnan city natural resources official Yang Yaoxian said at a news conference. Excavators were used to help clear the accumulated debris, which was about 8 to 10 meters (26 to 33 feet) deep.
A preliminary assessment indicated the landslide was caused by a combination of the steep terrain, erosion and the area's geological structure. The material left by the landslide was unstable and there is a risk of a second landslide, Yang said.
The landslide was in an uninhabited area in Gansu province's Tanchang county, about 220 kilometers (140 miles) south of Lanzhou, the provincial capital.

A cattle keeper was seriously injured after a lioness attacked him outside his house in Gujarat's Bhavnagar district on Monday morning.
The victim, identified as Kalu Parmar, was attacked at around 8 am outside his residence on the outskirts of Garajiya village in Palitana taluka. According to local accounts, the lioness suddenly emerged, grabbed his hand in its jaws and later bit his leg, knocking him to the ground.
The attack triggered panic in the village as residents watched the struggle unfold. Videos of the incident, filmed by villagers on mobile phones, have since gone viral on social media, drawing renewed concern over the increasing movement of Asiatic lions into human settlements.
As the lioness held on to Kalu Parmar, residents rushed to help, shouting and pelting stones in an attempt to drive the animal away.
Despite suffering severe injuries and heavy bleeding, Parmar continued to struggle to free himself from the lioness's grip during the attack.
A 24‑year‑old man died after he was believed to have been struck by lightning near Pasir Ris Beach on Sunday afternoon, according to police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
Police said they received a call for assistance at about 4.50pm from 131 Pasir Ris Road, where a group of eight people — aged between 13 and 54 — had been out at sea. All eight were taken to hospital: two to KK Women's and Children's Hospital, and six to Sengkang General Hospital. The 24‑year‑old was unconscious when found and later died. Preliminary investigations do not point to foul play.
The Straits Times reported that the group, comprising five men and three women, had been kayaking and paddleboarding when lightning hit the water.
