Switzerland goes to war against free speech: Man jailed for claiming that skeletons reflect gender

Switzerland was famous (or infamous) for staying neutral in World War II. It simply would not take a side between the Nazis and the rest of the world. However, when it comes to free speech, Switzerland has declared war on anyone who challenges certain orthodox positions, including gender policies. Just ask Emanuel Brünisholz.

Brünisholz is reportedly about to start a 10-day prison stint due to his voicing skepticism about claims that skeletons are transgender. There is very little coverage of this story. Free speech cases are often downplayed by European media. So, we have only limited information coming from conservative sites.

In 2022, he responded to a Facebook post by Swiss National Council member Andreas Glarner on the controversy. Some, including academics in the United States, are now claiming that you really cannot gauge the sex of individuals from their skeletons. The wind-instrument repairman thought that such claims were unfounded and posted a comment that said:
"If you dig up LGBTQI people after 200 years, you'll only find men and women based on their skeletons. Everything else is a mental illness promoted through the curriculum."
Brünisholz then received a knock on his door from the Burgdorf police and then a prosecution letter for engaging in "hate speech" and "publicly belittling" comments based on sexual orientation under the Swiss Criminal Code. He was convicted and fined 500 Swiss Francs.

Clown world: Letitia James rips off MLK 'I have a dream speech' while pleading not guilty to federal bank fraud

New York Attorney General Letitia James pleaded not guilty Friday to a pair of federal charges stemming from her purchase of a Virginia property more than five years ago — before mangling remarks by America's greatest civil rights leader.

The smiling, buoyant-seeming James only spoke to answer "Yes" to US District Judge Jamar Walker when asked if she understood her rights and responded "Not guilty, judge, to both counts" when prompted to enter a plea by her attorney, Democratic powerhouse Abbe Lowell.

In brief remarks following her arraignment, the 67-year-old shamelessly ripped off Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech as she vowed to "not be deterred" in her legal fight — without expressly proclaiming her innocence.

Comment: James is pulling the same stunt in NYC:

Is the SPLC's influence over Big Tech finally crumbling?

Major tech companies are distancing themselves from the Southern Poverty Law Center, a leftist group that demonizes conservatives and Christians, after facing pressure over previous relationships with the SPLC in the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination.

Kirk's alleged murderer said he killed the Turning Point USA founder because he "spreads too much hate." The assassination took place two months after the SPLC put Turning Point USA on a "hate map" with chapters of the Ku Klux Klan — a "hate map" that had inspired a terrorist attack in 2012. The SPLC condemned the assassination, but kept Turning Point on the map.

Earlier this month, shareholders filed proposals at major companies, urging them to investigate whether the companies have used politicized tools like the SPLC's "hate map." Conservative groups also sent a letter to Benevity, which connects nonprofits to major corporations, urging it to stop using the SPLC "hate map."

Comment: The SPLC has nothing to do with poverty and very little to do with law:

Leaked document reveals Amazon deliberately planned to hide data centers' full water use

Amazon deliberately withheld information about the complete scope of its data centers' water consumption from the public to protect its corporate image, according to an internal document obtained by the Guardian.

The leaked memo reveals that executives at Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud computing arm, debated whether to report what they termed "secondary" water use — the water consumed in generating electricity for the company's data centers — before launching a 2022 sustainability campaign.

Ultimately, leadership opted to publicize only a fraction of the company's water footprint, citing concerns about "reputational risk" if total consumption figures became public knowledge.

The document, dated one month before AWS unveiled its "Water Positive" initiative in November 2022, shows Amazon consumed 105 billion gallons of water in 2021. That volume would supply approximately 958,000 U.S. households annually, comparable to a city larger than San Francisco.

Comment:

Water consumption isn't the only problem with massive data centers:

"We're Living Through A Coordinated Sabotage Of Truth-Seeking Institutions"

Orwell

"A civilization is defined by its ability to discern truth from falsehood,"
writes 'Camus' (@newstart_2024) in a post on X.

So, what happens when every apparatus built for that purpose is systematically dismantled?

Bret Weinstein issues a stark warning: we are living through a coordinated sabotage of our truth-seeking institutions.

This is not a minor critique; it is a fundamental attack on the very mechanisms of a functional society.

Comment: Add AI to the mix will bring us to the land of confusion.

Female spies are waging 'sex warfare' to steal Silicon Valley secrets

Chinese and Russian operatives are using "sex warfare" to seduce and spy on Silicon Valley professionals, industry insiders have told The Times.

James Mulvenon, the chief intelligence officer of Pamir Consulting, which provides risk assessments for American companies investing in China, said he was one of the many men recently targeted by foreign seductresses hoping to gain access to US tech secrets. "I'm getting an enormous number of very sophisticated LinkedIn requests from the same type of attractive young Chinese woman," said Mulvenon. "It really seems to have ramped up recently."

Mulvenon also described how, at a business conference on Chinese investment risks hosted last week in Virginia, two attractive Chinese women showed up and attempted to gain entry. "We didn't let them in," he said. "But they had all the information [about the event] and everything else."

He added: "It is a phenomenon. And I will tell you: it is weird."

Cultural genocide: Israel is estimated to have destroyed one million of Gaza's 1.1 million olive trees

olive trees destroyed
© Issam Rimawi/Anadolu AgencyPalestinian farmers inspect the damage done to their olive trees that were allegedly cut down by Israeli settlers.
Gaza's olive groves have been bulldozed by the Israeli military, dried up from lack of water, or remain inaccessible, leaving Palestinian farmers with little to harvest.
On Sunday, the first day of the olive harvest in the village of Turmus'ayyer, near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, a group of Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians farmers and residents in a brutal assault that left many people injured, including a Palestinian women who was knocked unconscious with a club. The incident was captured on video by journalist Jasper Nathaniel who said Israeli soldiers in the area led a group of Palestinian famers "directly into a brutal ambush by armed settlers."

Drop Site spoke to Nathaniel about what happened. You can listen to the interview here.

— Sharif Abdel Kouddous
The last time Hajj Suleiman Abdel-Nabi witnessed a normal olive harvest was three years ago.

Days before the "ceasefire" went into effect on October 10, the 75-year-old farmer took a saw to what remains of his three-dunam (about three quarters of an acre) olive farm in southern Gaza's Al-Mawasi area. Alongside the massive destruction of homes and civilian infrastructure wrought by Israel's two-year war on Gaza, the toll on agriculture and farmland in the enclave has been equally devastating. With Gaza's water resources severely depleted, half of Abdel-Nabi's olive trees have dried up and died.

"Water became more precious than gold," he says. "How can I ask for water for trees when people are dying of thirst?"

Comment: This is Israeli policy in all of Palestine. Hundreds of years of devoted care erased in a moment:

Prince Andrew told Jeffrey Epstein 'we're in this together' in 2011 email

Prince Andrew told Jeffrey Epstein in an email "we are in this together" after a picture of the British royal with his arm around a teenage Virginia Giuffre was first published in 2011.

The email will pile further pressure on the Duke of York and the royal family because he previously told the BBC he had ceased contact with the convicted child sex offender by that point.

Correspondence between the king's younger brother and Epstein, published in the Mail on Sunday and the Sun on Sunday, appears to show that was not the case.

Andrew emailed Epstein on 28 February 2011, the day after the well-known photograph of the duke, Giuffre and Ghislaine Maxwell was made public. He told Epstein to "keep in close touch" and expressed a wish to "play some more soon".

In 2019, Andrew told the BBC's Newsnight programme that he broke off his friendship with Epstein in December 2010, after the two men were photographed together strolling in New York.

Reality v. Garbage

"The business incentives driving consumer AI development remain fundamentally misaligned with reducing hallucinations."
— The Singularity Hub on "X"
Which is to say, there is Reality, and then there is every other cockamamie aggregate of simulation pretending to represent Reality, i.e. garbage. How many millions among us already subscribe to the latter? Apparently, lots, and they are not evenly distributed these days. You surely know where to look for the un-Reality. The party of men can get pregnant, and all the rest. . . .

Enter A-I to make things worse. Probably a lot worse. We have failed to learn the chief lesson of the computer age, which is that the virtual is not an acceptable substitute for the authentic. So, we plunge deeper into realms of the un-real and the inauthentic. This turns into a quest to get something-for-nothing, and the unfortunate result of that old dodge is that you will end up with nothing, and that is exactly why we are at such a hazardous pass in the human project.

I apologize if the above seems too metaphysical. But that's the scenery en route when a civilization flies up its own wazoo. Novelist Cory Doctorow has nicely labeled this the enshitification of daily life.

Hundreds of prominent Jews call for sanctions on Israel

Hundreds of prominent Jewish figures across the world have called on the UN and global leaders to impose sanctions on Israel over what they describe as "unconscionable" actions in Gaza that they say amount to genocide.

An open letter urging governments to hold Israel accountable for alleged violations of international law in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem garnered more than 450 signatories, including former Israeli officials, intellectuals, and artists. The letter coincides with reports that EU leaders may abandon plans to introduce sanctions against Israel during a summit in Brussels on Thursday.

The signatories wrote:
"We have not forgotten that so many of the laws, charters, and conventions established to safeguard and protect all human life were created in response to the Holocaust. Those safeguards have been relentlessly violated by Israel."
