"The escape of all inmates through the tunnel is an indicator of cooperation and facilitation from inside the prison," a statement from the palace said, following an initial report from the justice minister on what happened.

Some 488 prisoners, the vast majority of whom are thought to be Taliban, escaped from Kandahar prison in southern Afghanistan through a one-kilometre tunnel overnight Sunday.

At least 35 terrorists incarcerated at Guantánamo Bay were sent to fight against the West after being indoctrinated by extremist preachers in Britain, secret files obtained by The Daily Telegraph disclose.

Abu Qatada and Abu Hamza, two preachers who lived off state benefits after claiming asylum, are identified by the American authorities as the key recruiters responsible for sending dozens of extremists from throughout the world to Pakistan and Afghanistan via London mosques.

The leaked WikiLeaks documents, written by senior US military commanders at Guantánamo Bay, illustrate how, for two decades, Britain effectively became a crucible of terrorism, with dozens of extremists, home-grown and from abroad, radicalised here.

Finsbury Park mosque, in north London, is described as a "haven" for extremists. United States intelligence officials concluded the mosque served as "an attack planning and propaganda production base".

The International Monetary Fund says the "Age of America" will end in the ash heap of history in 2016, give or take a year or so, to be replaced by the "Age of China."

That's when the value of the Chinese economy will reach $19 trillion annually, shading ours by a few billion in petty cash. A decade ago, the Chinese economy was only a fraction of the size of America's. That was before we shipped our factories to China and the Democrats and Republicans in Washington discovered they could borrow money with abandon from the Chinese to finance FDR's famous formula of "spend and spend, elect and elect."

This news of imminent Chinese economic superiority - the triumph of Adam Smith over Karl Marx - should arm the old men in Beijing with the confidence to tolerate the growth of religious faith in their midst. But on Easter Sunday, the government turned the observance of Easter into the Chinese fire drill of yore and lore.

It could happen any time but it usually occurs under the cover of the night.

Settlers come down from the mountain above the Palestinian city of Nablus to pay their respects to the purported resting place of Joseph, Patriarch and 11th son of Jacob. The early morning of Sunday, April 24th should have been no different. Sometime early in the morning, close to thirty settlers packed in five cars arrived in the area around Joseph's Tomb to pray. After these established facts, the fog of war obscures. The subsequent events and the circumstances surrounding the death of one of these settlers and the injuries of four others remains shrouded in mystery.

A man suspected of leaving a pipe bomb and two propane tanks at a Denver-area shopping mall has been arrested 30 miles northwest in Boulder, authorities said Tuesday.

Earl Albert Moore, 65, was captured Tuesday at a grocery store, said Boulder Police spokeswoman Kim Kobel.

Authorities have been searching for Moore since the explosives were discovered April 20 at the Southwest Plaza Mall in the south Denver suburbs. The bomb and tanks were found after a fire, but they didn't detonate. No injuries were reported.

The fire occurred on the 12th anniversary of the shootings at Columbine High School, which is about two miles from the mall. Authorities also noted that the times of the mall fire and the Columbine shootings were similar, as was the use of a pipe bomb and propane tanks, which were used during the attack at the school in 1999 that killed 12 students and a teacher.

A woman has been mauled to death by a pack of four pit bulls in the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, authorities said on Monday.

Margaret Salcedo, 48, was walking alone when the dogs, which had escaped from a fenced yard at a private home, attacked her at an intersection on Sunday afternoon, Truth or Consequences Police Chief Patrick Gallagher said.

A passerby in a car opened his door to intervene, but he stayed in the vehicle when a dog charged him, police said.

"The officer arrived on the scene in less than three minutes, but it must have felt like an eternity to the poor woman being attacked," Gallagher told Reuters.

One of the dogs charged the officer, who shot and injured the animal, police said. All four dogs ran off, and the officer administered first aid to the wounded woman.

A father whose 11-year-old son's body was found in a cardboard box in the back of his SUV allegedly claimed that the boy drowned in the bathtub while he was shopping, according to CNN affiliate KHOU.

45-year-old Jeffrey Singer of Pasadena, TX is charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child by failing to seek medical care for his son Jonathan, who prosecutors say suffered from cerebral palsy, blindness and appeared emaciated. The boy's body was found after Singer allegedly drove to his father's house early Sunday morning with the box in his car and confessed that he had harmed his son. His father then called 911.

Prosecutors revealed additional details of the allegations against Singer in a court appearance Tuesday, KHOU reported. According to prosecutor Amanda Skillern, he told a relative that he went to a store while he was supposed to be watching Jonathan on April 12 and his son was dead in the bathtub when he returned.

Rinat Akhmetov, Ukraine's richest man, has bought the UK's most expensive flat at the One Hyde Park residential development in London's Knightsbridge, the FT has learned.

Mr Akhmetov was behind the purchase of the penthouse, which sold for £136.6 million. The identities of buyers at One Hyde Park have been one of London's best-kept secrets, closely guarded by confidentiality agreements with the developers and protected by offshore ownership structures and Swiss corporate advisers.

Elena Dovzhenko, spokeswoman for Mr Akhmetov, confirmed that the oligarch's holding company, System Capital Management, had invested in One Hyde Park.

A new CNN investigation reveals what most analysts have been saying since the "birther" controversy erupted during the 2008 presidential campaign: Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961. Period.

While the president has made light of the controversy, the question remains political red meat for some of his critics. A recent CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll showed that nearly 75% of Americans believe Obama was definitely or probably born in the United States. More than four in 10 Republicans, however, believe he probably or definitely was not born in America.
