An American Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration N780AN performing flight AA-997 (dep Dec 24th) from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) to Buenos Aires,BA (Argentina), was on final approach to Ezeiza Airport's runway 11 when the aircraft went around due to weather. The crew decided to divert to Montevideo (Uruguay), climbed the aircraft up to FL220, flew around a number of weather cells and landed safely on Montevideo's runway 06 about 37 minutes later.

A passenger reported the captain announced shortly after the aircraft had left cruise level, that there were storms and bad weather in the Buenos Aires and instructed cabin crew to prepare the cabin for landing right away and take their seats. A short time later turbulence kicked in, the worst the passenger had ever experienced (the passenger believes the turbulence could be categorized as severe), many passengers (estimated about half of the passengers) vomited, the aircraft ran out of airsick bags while the aircraft continued the descent flying zig-zag around weather, entered a hold, then continued the approach and was configured for landing. The ground became briefly visible, the turbulence reduced, the engines worked less hard spooling up and down, but then the aircraft went around and climbed back into bad turbulence.

An Irish child helpline received more than 1,000 calls on Christmas Day, with children reporting domestic violence and alcohol abuse in their homes.

The Childline service, run by the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC), was staffed by over 60 volunteers on Christmas Day. Children contacted the line through their free phone, web chat, and 'live' text services.

"For too many children across Ireland, being home at Christmas, is not a place of safety, warmth and happiness. It's a place of fear, loneliness, pain and neglect," the society said in a statement.

Californian charged with driving under the influence of - coffee!

Solano County — 38-year-old Joseph Schwab has been fighting a DUI for over a year, despite the fact that he was not under the influence of any illegal drugs at the time, he did, however, test positive for caffeine.

The Guardian reported that Schwab was pulled over last August by an officer who accused him of driving erratically.

Schwab was driving home from work when he was pulled over by an agent from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, who was driving an unmarked vehicle. The agent said Schwab had cut her off and was driving erratically. The officer claims that Schwab cut her off and she gave him a breathalyzer which showed a blood alcohol content of 0.00%.

Unfortunately, the officer was still not convinced. So, she arrested him and took him to jail so his blood could be drawn for other drugs. His blood tests came back negative for all illegal drugs. But he did test positive for caffeine. For some reason, this was enough to charge Schwab with a DUI.

No conscience: Workers torture & kill brown bear with truck in Siberia - they will be punished

A scandalous video made it online showing people identified as rotation workers in Yakutia, Siberia, driving over a bear multiple times with a clear mission to kill the animal.

The graphic video shows how one of the trucks (a Russian-made Ural) drives over a bear as someone comments behind the scenes: "Crush him! Do it!" The tortured animal tries to get up, but then another vehicle runs over him to cheerful cries behind the camera.

Then one of the workers pokes the animal's head with a metal bar to check if it's dead.

Police are now looking for those involved in such extreme animal cruelty and if found guilty, the men may face up to two years in prison.

YouTube users were outraged by the shocking scene with milder comments stating that even if the bear was dangerous, torturing it was absolutely unnecessary.

Comment: Stupid and cruel. Thankfully, there are Russians like this:
Russian President Vladimir Putin shares the position of those who oppose cruelty against animals and says there may be a legislative initiative aimed at increasing penalty for such crimes, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday
...
"Certainly, the president believes that such legislative initiative would have the right to exist, this is likely to be related to the position of the animal rights defenders, who oppose animal abuse. The president shares [the position of those who] stand against the cases of cruelty to animals and he is in full solidarity with those who oppose [the cruelty]," Peskov told journalists.

A Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy and his wife are making Christmas a little brighter for more than 100 kids at Central Gwinnett High School.

Cpl. Matt Stoner and his wife Gabriela opted to forego Christmas presents this year and instead spend their money on local students struggling to pay for their school lunches, Fox 5 reports.

"Their family had quietly made the decision not to buy Christmas presents for each other this year, instead creating a special family memory by doing something to help others," the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office posted to Facebook.

"Gabriela researched local schools and selected a school that had a significant number of students receiving free or reduced meals. She called the school and paid off every delinquent account for the entire school to help those struggling families and to allow those students to start the new year debt free with full meal privileges."

A man who reportedly used his eight-year-old daughter as a suicide bomber in an attack on a police station in Syria's Damascus is now said to be dead himself. Images of a dead man believed to be the jihadist known as Abu Nimr have emerged online.

Earlier this month, disturbing videos in which the same bearded man is believed to be featured, were circulating on the internet. In two separate videos, two little girls said to be named Islam and Fatima can be seen with a man and a woman who are believed to be their father and mother.

The footage show the girls being apparently brainwashed, as they appear in the room with a black Islamic flag hanging on the wall. The man believed to be their father holds the two girls in his hands and speaks of a suicide mission prepared for them.

The woman, dressed in a burqa, then hugs the girls in an apparent farewell moment, while the man behind the camera talks of suicide bomb attacks for them. The girls can be heard repeatedly saying "Allahu Akbar" ("God is great" in Arabic).

Less than two weeks ago, a blast hit a police station in the Syrian capital, Damascus. Syria's state television aired pictures of a girl who was allegedly a suicide bomber, while SANA news agency reported the attack was carried out by an eight-year-old girl wearing an explosive belt.

The bomb was homemade, and was activated with a remote control, the Syrian media said, adding that there were no other casualties except for a police officer who was slightly injured.

Comment: It is unthinkable that parents could do this to their child. It is unthinkable that presidents, military, terrorists, neocons, sheeple republics...and the list is endless...could do this to other people's children. But they do.

Brutal Christmas: 11 dead, more than 60 shot in Chicago during holiday weekend

chicago shooting christmas 2016
More than 60 people were shot, 11 fatally, across Chicago during the holiday weekend, according to police, making it the deadliest weekend in years, with the Windy City reaching a record 753 homicides in 2016.

"We had a reprehensible amount of shootings and murders," Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said on Monday, according to WALB.

Many, he said, "were deliberate and planned shootings by one gang against another."

"They were targeted knowing fully well that individuals would be at homes of family and friends celebrating the holidays. This was followed by several acts of retaliation," he added.

Cop who admitted throwing 4yo child against a wall, causing serious injury, gets slap on the wrist

In February of 2015, Leadwood Police Officer Jay R. Bellis, 38, picked up a 4-year-old child and smashed him into a wall causing him to crack his head on a kitchen cabinet. Only because a 3-year-old child witnessed the incident and reported it, did his fellow cops ever find out. Once they questioned him about the abuse, Bellis admitted to it and was charged with felony child abuse.

Last week, Bellis was sentenced for admitting to the abuse. However, likely due to the fact that he was a police officer, he will not be required to serve his 7-year sentence — nor the 1-year minimum required for the Class C felony, to which he admitted.

In October, Bellis pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree, a Class C felony. Circuit Court Judge Wendy Horn then sentenced him to serve seven years in the Missouri State Department of Corrections. However, Horn then suspended execution of the sentence and placed Bellis on probation for five years.

Instead of the seven years he should be serving in prison for beating up a small child, Bellis was ordered to serve what is known as 'Shock Time' in the St. Francois County Jail and complete anger management.

Butterfly effect: Top grain-producing region in China passes total ban on GMO crops

Sometimes small victories or positive actions are almost as important as major international ones as they can give a new quality of impulse to many related developments, what physicists call the "butterfly effect." To be more precise, a butterfly effect says that "a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state," or that small causes may have large effects. That's tied to the reality that every part of our Cosmos is interconnected. Such, I believe, will be the "butterfly effect" of a recent decision by the government of China's northeastern Heilongjiang Province that can give huge impetus to Russia-China trade and economic development and to events far beyond. It's about building up good natural new structures.

On December 16, 2016, the Provincial Heilongjiang Legislature passed a total ban on the growing of Genetically Modified or GMO crops. The ban goes into effect on May 1, 2017, in some five months. Farmers in China's Heilongjiang province, one of China's top grain producing regions, will be prohibited from growing GMO crops, according to the provincial regulation just passed. According to the new law, the ban will be on growing of GMO corn, rice and soybeans. Further, illegal production and sales of GMO crops and supply of their seeds will also be prohibited, as will be illegal production, processing, sale and imports of edible GMO farm produce or edible farm products that contain GMO ingredients. Any GMO food can only be sold in a special zone, clearly indicated in stores as GMO food products, a variation on labelling.
