Missing Argentine Navy submarine: New theory suggests water got in snorkel, causing short circuit

Water entered the snorkel of an Argentine submarine and caused one of its batteries to short circuit before the vessel went missing 12 days ago, a navy spokesman said Monday.

Hopes for survivors have been largely crushed by reports of an explosion detected near the time and place where the ARA San Juan was last heard from on Nov. 15.

Since then, there have been no signs of the sub or debris despite an intensive multinational search. Experts have said the 44 sailors aboard had only enough oxygen to last up to 10 days if the sub remained intact but submerged.

The navy said last week that before the submarine went missing, the captain reported an electrical problem in a battery compartment and the vessel was ordered to return to its base in the coastal city of Mar del Plata, about 250 miles (400 kilometers) southeast of Buenos Aires.

Navy spokesman Enrique Balbi told reporters Monday that the captain said water had entered through the snorkel when the sub was charging batteries. The water went through the ventilation system to a battery connection tray in the prow and "caused a short circuit and the beginning of a fire, or smoke without flame," he said.

Liberal double standards: In Pelosi's world only Democrats deserve 'due process'

Nancy Pelosi
It's amazing how complicated simple principles can become when they're inconvenient to your team.

On Sunday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi created a mess for herself by insisting on NBC's "Meet the Press" that Rep. John Conyers deserves "due process" in the face of a series of accusations of improper conduct.

Politically, Pelosi's performance was a gift to her many critics. For liberals who think she's passed her sell-by date as a Democratic leader, her hapless effort will now be Exhibit A in the brief against her, despite her subsequent efforts to clean up the mess.

For populists on the left and right who think the political establishment is rigged to protect members of the club, Pelosi's effort to protect Conyers -- and Sen. Al Franken, who has also been accused of several sexual transgressions -- while at the same time insisting that we know all we need to know about President Trump and Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore is simply a naked partisan double standard.

"We are strengthened by due process," Pelosi insists when the topic is Conyers. But Moore is "a child molester."

Lucian Wintrich, a White House correspondent for conservative site The Gateway Pundit, was arrested Tuesday night after an altercation broke out during his address at a University of Connecticut speaking event.

The 29-year-old was giving a speech titled, "It Is OK To Be White," when a student decided to approach the podium he was standing at and remove Wintrich's notes. Upset, he responded by chasing after the woman and grabbing her backpack.

And that's when all hell broke loose.

Comment: Wintrich is well within his rights to press charges. The first video clearly show the woman taking his notes off the podium while he is distracted by the male SJW.

UPDATE: More from the Gateway Pundit:

Tuesday night on the UConn campus the Gateway Pundit's Lucian Wintrich was set to deliver a speech. The event was quickly derailed by unhinged leftists in the audience.

The crowd was divided between obnoxious far-left protesters who came to shout down Wintrich and conservative campus Republicans, and when the tensions reached the boiling point and a woman stole Wintrich's speech, the entire room exploded.

The woman in the video that stole Lucian Wintrich's property has been identified as Catherine "Katie" Gregory, who is listed as Associate Director of Career Services and Advising at Quinebaug Valley Community College. This confirms the suspicions of various people in attendance that night.

Feb 9th 2017 – concrete collapse at Oroville spillway
Readers may recall that in February 2017, the spillway at Oroville dam eroded and collapsed due to the massive amount of water from El Nino weather pattern induced storms eroding concrete that had cracks in it that had not been properly maintained. The state DWR agency spent an estimated $500 million to rush a new spillway replacement into service by November 1st. Now it appears this rush job has cracks in the steel reinforced concrete, repeating the same start of the scenario that caused the collapse in the first place.

Hawaiian police sent medical marijuana users a letter ordering them to "voluntarily surrender" their firearms and ammunition.

According to federal law, patients who use medical marijuana are not allowed to own a gun. Federal law applies even in states that allow the medicinal or recreational use of the drug.

The letter signed by Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard says those notified have 30 days from receipt to transfer ownership or turn in weapons and ammunition to the police, Leafly reported.

The evil rich?

Greed
As Republicans struggle to agree on a tax plan, Democrats and much of the media label each attempt at reform a "gift" to rich people.

In one sense, they are right. Any tax cut disproportionately favors rich people since the rich pay much more tax.

But the media and Democrats (is there a difference?) are wrong because they routinely portray rich people as parasites who take from other people.

Flying Dog Brewery owner Jim Caruso objects to that kind of thinking. He took over a bankrupt brewery and made it successful by inventing new craft beers. I won't buy his beers -- with varieties like blood orange ale -- but enough people like them that Caruso has become relatively rich.

He's the kind of person Sen. Bernie Sanders rails about. "The top 1 percent," complains Sanders, "earned 85 percent of all new income."

That sounds unfair. But Caruso doesn't see it that way.

Ouch! Woman, 26, chopped off boyfriend's penis with garden shears

Brenda Barattini
© CENBrenda Barattini is said to have chopped her boyfriend’s penis off – why she did it remains a mystery
A woman has been arrested after she allegedly cut off her boyfriend's penis in a rage after a sex attack.

Brenda Barattini, 26, is accused of using garden shears to chop off the manhood of a man known only as Sergio F, 40.

The motive behind the attack is currently unclear with his lawyer saying it happened during a sex game while her lawyer says it was because he attacked her.

Comment: Of course she does. However, try to imagine how exactly such a thing, with shears, could take place as a "self-defense."

Police and ambulance crews arrived at the scene shortly after with the man taken to hospital where he is said to still be in a 'stable condition'.
