Department of Defense being sued for failing to report criminal convictions to FBI

New York City, Philadelphia, and San Francisco filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against the Department of Defense for its failures to report service members' convictions to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System database.

What's the story?

The military is required to report all felony-equivalent court-martial convictions that are punishable by more than a year in prison to the FBI's NICS, as well as report any dishonorable discharges and domestic violence convictions. People who are convicted of certain crimes are ineligible to purchase firearms.

The lawsuit cites the Air Force's admitted its failure in reporting the domestic violence conviction of Devin Kelley, the man suspected of opening fire and killing 26 people Nov. 5 at a small church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Kelley was able to legally purchase a firearm due to the Air Force's failure to report his conviction to the database.

Russia's Vatican envoy: Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches should work together to preserve Christian values

Russian orthodox church at night
Russia's ambassador to the Vatican has praised the current relations between the Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches, adding that more cooperation is needed to preserve the foundations of Christian civilization.

"The situation that has formed in the world by this moment gives us a large field for cooperation, as it threatens the moral and ethical foundations of Christian civilization, which are the same for believers and non-believers," Ambassador Aleksandr Avdeyev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"Both churches see this as a serious threat. When the very institution of family and marriage is being destroyed, people start violating the laws of Christian civilization and this cannot leave Catholics and Orthodox Christians without concerns," he added.

A former topless model suspected of joining the ranks of Islamic State has been released without charge. Kimberley Miners was alleged to have shared IS videos on Facebook and contacted a British fighter in Syria.

Miners was thought to be posing under the name Aisha Lauren al-Britaniya and allegedly posted images of Muslim women brandishing rifles and other weapons, as well as a picture of herself in a full-face veil.

The 28-year-old, who once appeared topless in the now discontinued Page 3 section of UK tabloid the Sun, was suspected of being groomed to become a jihadist bride in October last year. An image of a kitten wearing a suicide vest was also being looked into by police in her home town of Bradford.

Quizzed under the Terrorism Act 2000, the street cleaner was suspected to have been sharing Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) propaganda. However, she claimed the sites were using her identity after being set up by someone else.

A number of Palestinian students suffered from suffocation after Israeli forces fired tear gas and stun grenades at their high school in the town of Ya'bad, southwest of Jenin in the occupied West Bank.

A school teacher told WAFA that Israeli forces raided the school of Izz al-Din al-Qassam in the morning while the students were sitting for their midterm exams causing panic among them and disrupting the exams.

He noted that the soldiers broke into the school without any warning even thought there were no clashes in that area at that time.

Soldiers are regularly present in the school vicinity, often provoking students as they come to and leave their school, said the teacher.

Comment: The war on terror will only be legitimate when it finally targets Israeli terrorists.

Failing Pile of Racist Garbage BuzzFeed: "37 things white people need to stop ruining in 2018"

buzzfeed white people
BuzzFeed has published a list of "37 things white people need to stop ruining in 2018," in yet another example of the left's brazen anti-white racism.

The listicle claims that everything from macaroni and cheese to protests to the national anthem have been spoiled by the involvement of white people.

Below the headline, 37 Things White People Need To Stop Ruining In 2018, the first line of the piece reads, "First of all, America."

Imagine if Fox News or Breitbart had published a giant list of "things black people are ruining". There would be an uproar, whereas this will go virtually unnoticed.

To legitimise their racism, the left has created a form of mental gymnastics that allows them to convince themselves that promulgating racist stereotypes about white people is somehow acceptable.

WHO to classify gaming addiction as mental health disorder

Computing can become problematic when it models other addictive behaviors. Whether it's gaming, internet use, or social media interactions, if those behaviors start to interfere with someone's life, it enters the realm of a psychological disorder.

In 2018, problems related to video games will receive their own designation. The World Health Organization (WHO) plans to include Gaming Disorder in their diagnostic manual, the International Classification of Diseases, in its next release. Gaming Disorder is classified under Disorders Due to Addictive Behaviors joining Gambling Disorder as the only other condition under that heading. While the final language is not set, the current draft includes many familiar characteristics of addiction:
Gaming disorder is characterized by a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behaviour ('digital gaming' or 'video-gaming'), which may be online (i.e., over the internet) or offline, manifested by: 1) impaired control over gaming (e.g., onset, frequency, intensity, duration, termination, context); 2) increasing priority given to gaming to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other life interests and daily activities; and 3) continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences. The behaviour pattern is of sufficient severity to result in significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning. The pattern of gaming behaviour may be continuous or episodic and recurrent. The gaming behaviour and other features are normally evident over a period of at least 12 months in order for a diagnosis to be assigned, although the required duration may be shortened if all diagnostic requirements are met and symptoms are severe.
Whether this provides clinical benefits over treating problematic gaming as a generic addiction disorder remains to be seen, but this move acknowledges the prominent psychological role that computing, and gaming in particular, can have in people's lives.

Middle school caught giving students 'white privilege' survey

west bend school district
If you believe the three r's long ago became racism, relativism, and revisionism, you won't be surprised by a story out of Wisconsin: a middle school has been caught giving students an intrusive, 55-question survey that they believed would spark a conversation on "privilege."

Students at West Bend's Badger Middle School were supposed to check boxes next to statements that applied to them, such as "I feel comfortable in the gender I was born in," "I never doubted my parents' acceptance of my sexuality," "I have never been called a derogatory term for a homosexual," "I have never been told that I'm attractive 'for my race,'" and "I have never been called a terrorist." The "privilege test," as it has been called, was given to 150 eighth-graders after they read the book To Kill a Mockingbird.

Yet while the exercise could be titled "To Kill Education," the school has discontinued the survey but didn't exactly issue a mea culpa. As Fox 6 reports, "This wasn't the first year for the test. District officials say they would have done things differently, but they stand behind the idea of the exercise."

At least 40 people died and 30 more were injured in a terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan, Pajhwok news agency reported citing the deputy spokesman of the Interior Ministry. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.

The blast occurred at 10:30am local time (6:00 GMT) as the suicide bomber targeted the Shiite Tebyan cultural center, which also houses the AVA news agency.

The number of casualties, most of them civilians, was announced by deputy spokesman for the Minister of Interior Nasrat Rahimi. Tolo news also puts the number of people killed at 40, adding that women, children and journalists are among the dead. Some of the wounded are in critical condition, Tolo reports citing health officials.

Comment: It worth noting that this attack comes on the heals of the Chinese announcement that they may be taking a more active role in helping to stabilize Afghanistan. See:
