Syrian army reportedly finds Israeli-made weapons in East Ghouta

Syrian forces continue to discover new evidence about the types of weapons, facilities, and tactics used by Islamist militants during their occupation of East Ghouta.

The Syrian military found the Israeli-made weapons in the town of Harasta, about 10 kilometers from central Damascus, according to a Press TV report citing Syrian state television. The town was occupied by Ahrar al-Sham, a collection of hardline Islamist militias. The Syrian military freed the town on Saturday.

The find is the second of its kind in recent weeks. Late last month, the Syrian Arab News Agency published video of a large cache of what it said were Israeli-made weapons and ammunition left behind by Daesh (ISIS)* in eastern Syria.

Over 4,000 militants and members of their families left Harasta for Idlib on Friday.

In addition to the Israeli military hardware, the Syrian army has found mass graves of civilians and army personnel believed to have been killed by the territories, underground facilities, and makeshift weapons manufacturing plants.

Comment The sources said that the exact number of the bodies is not yet known, but the found bodies belong to the Syrian Army servicemen killed by terrorists in the battleground in Harasta region during the few past years.

The Syrian army deployed in the strategic town of Harasta in Eastern Ghouta on Saturday after 7 years.

The Syrian military launched Operation Damascus Steel last month in a bid to end the regular Islamist rocket attacks on the Syrian capital. A month and ten days into the operation, Damascus controls between 85-90% of the militant-held East Ghouta pocket.

Comment: A unit of Syrian Arab Army discovered depots for manufacturing ammunition and chemical materials left by Daesh (ISIS) terrorist organization in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

A military source told SANA that the army found three depots containing chemicals and equipment for the manufacture of ammunition left by the remnants of Daesh in the village of Mehkan, 10 km to the north of al- Mayadeen city.

One of the army's personnel who participated in the sweeping operations told SANA that large quantities of chlorine and silver nitrates, which are used in chemical manufacturing, were found in one of the depots, adding that other depots included large amounts of coal and highly flammable sticky materials all of which are used in the manufacture of explosives, bombs, explosive belts and shells of all kinds, including toxic ones.
