Bezos' move to raise Amazon wages is a Machiavellian ploy

For the many low wage Amazon workers - both full time and temporary - set to receive a raise thanks to the just announced boost in minimum pay to $15/hour, the news is certainly a big plus. It should also be noted that had Amazon not been subject to intense scrutiny and criticism from the likes of Bernie Sanders and others, Jeff Bezos never would have responded with such an aggressive move. That said, if you think a little beyond the surface level about why he's doing this now and what his real motives are, it becomes clear nobody should take this move at face value.

Stacy Mitchell, co-director at the Institute for Local Self-Reliance, is someone whose work on Amazon I've cited on various occasions. She tweeted out an important thread this morning that helps you take a step back and not miss the forest for the trees.

Crooked cop caught on his own body camera robbing an elderly man having a heart attack

Officer Linnard R. Crouch
Officer Linnard R. Crouch was seen on his own body camera - not helping a 74-year-old man who was having a heart attack - but robbing him. The elderly victim, James Mabe had the cash to go buy Christmas presents for his grandchildren, but because the cop robbed him instead of helped him he'd never make it. Now, the officer who stole a dying elderly man's Christmas money will not be going to jail.

Last month, with almost no news coverage, Crouch pleaded guilty to robbing the elderly dying man. Instead of being punished for his utter betrayal of public trust and despicable act, Crouch was given probation and will not spend one day behind bars.

But that's not all, Crouch has a history of corruption. Crouch was suspended prior to robbing a dying elderly man on Christmas after several complaints were filed against him, dating back to 2011.

The former officer failed to complete incident reports, left information out of other completed reports and failed to wear his body camera at all times while on duty, according to a 68-page notice of suspension and a list of official complaints included as an exhibit with Linda Mabe's lawsuit filed last year.

Gruesome findings: Human body parts among tonnes of waste piled up in NHS hospitals - criminal investigation launched

Tonnes of human body parts, including amputated limbs, have been piling up in NHS hospitals, due to failures of a private health company. A criminal investigation has been launched.

According to the Environment Agency (EA), Healthcare Environment Services Ltd (HES) breached its permits at five sites in England that deal with human and pharmaceutical waste. HES claim there has been "reduced incineration capacity" in the UK over the last year.

A criminal inquiry has been launched after it was found that tonnes of waste, including amputated limbs were not being disposed of properly, reported the Health Service Journal (HSJ).

The journal states that government officials were so alarmed by the issue, a COBRA meeting, chaired by health secretary Matt Hancock was convened. Hancock has thus far, failed to notify parliament about the scandal.

Peaceful pro-Kavanaugh demonstration marred by hysterical leftist students

pro-Kavanaugh demonstration
Students at the University of Texas-Austin (UTA) held a demonstration in support of Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh. But their attempts to protest peacefully on campus were met with resistance.

The Young Conservatives of Texas at UT Austin (YCT) held a pro-Kavanaugh demonstration on Tuesday as counter-protesters aggressively tried to stop the event from occurring, yelling "this is a fuck you to survivors" and claiming that the demonstration threatened "the safety of students on campus.

The Senior Associate Dean of Students, Douglas Carrard, attempted to defuse the situation, telling the protesters "you guys can express your views, and they can express their views." Carrard was met with opposition from the counter-protesters, one of whom stated that the YCT demonstration was "a threat to minorities everywhere."

The YCT members held signs saying "#MeToo Gone #TooFar!," "Kava-Not Guilty," "Kavanaugh Did Nothing Wrong," and more, but some of the signs were torn apart by counter-protesters at the event. When one YCT member asked the protesters if they wanted to talk about the Kavanaugh sexual assault allegations in a civil way, a counter-protester shouted at him "do you think we give a fuck about your views?"

Homestay website Airbnb has booted a host from its platform after the host declined to accept a Muslim guest, telling a British PhD student she would not "fit" into their neighborhood due to her veil.

25-year-old British neuroscience student Nurjahan Saleque is doing her PhD in Hamburg, Germany. Tired of her commute, she saw an apartment on Airbnb closer to the city that seemed perfect. She reached out to the host 'Claudia' -Airbnb only provides the first names of hosts- but her request was declined despite the room being available.

According to screenshots of Saleque's messages to Claudia, the reason for her rejection was soon clear. "Im (sic) sorry Nurjahan but as I saw you were wearing a veil I don't think you'd fit into our neighbourhood," Claudia's response reads.

Comment: This incident highlights the pitfalls posed by Germany's acceptance of millions of migrants - its cities are being overwhelmed and people who may have been tolerant and accepting of other cultures are now becoming much less so:

Billboard with definition of the word 'woman' removed for being transphobic hate speech

woman billboard
There is a dangerous precedent being set right now, and it all stems from the act of being offended and the actions one takes to prevent future 'offenses'. Many of those complicit in the quelling of free speech are merely useful idiots and have no idea they are participating in one of the most effective forms of censorship humanity has ever seen.

All people have to do to silence anyone with whom they disagree is to now claim their speech offended or scared them. This speech no longer needs to actually be hateful and, as a recent case proves, it can be a dictionary definition of a word.

Case in point: a billboard in Liverpool that quoted the dictionary definition of "woman" has been removed after it was deemed transphobic hate speech.

The poster featured only six words: "Woman, women, noun, adult human female." This is the definition provided in the dictionary for the word woman yet it was deemed dangerous by a transgender activist who branded the poster "hate speech."

Feminist Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull, founder of the women's rights group Standing for Women, was behind the billboard campaign. Keen-Minshull is worried that women are under attack from trans groups who seek to redefine the biological definition of woman. So, she launched a campaign to simply inform people of the definition.

Comment: Transgender 'females' know that they are not really women. Otherwise, there would be no offense. They would embrace their surgically induced womanhood and go on with their lives.

El Petro: Venezuela launches first cryptocurrency backed by oil, gas, diamonds & gold

el petro Venezuela oil cryptocurrency

Venezuela has officially launched what its President Nicolas Maduro claims is a first state-backed oil-backed cryptocurrency, El Petro,
which analysts and experts see as nothing but a scam and another effort to skirt sanctions and mask the inability to overhaul the ailing domestic economy.

Over the past months, Maduro has been touting a new plan for economic recovery, which includes a new policy on gasoline pricing that would raise Venezuela's ultra-cheap gas prices for the first time in two decades. The plan to ease the severe economic crisis also featured a devaluation of the currency and pegging the new bolivars to the Petro.

Maduro claims that the Petro is strengthening his recently announced economic overhaul plan and will "revolutionize" the global crypto economy with a new form of trade, finance, and monetary exchange.

The official public sale of the Petro - which Venezuela say is backed by oil, natural gas, diamonds, and gold-will begin on November 5, Maduro has said.

Comment: Venezuela's partnerships with China should provide some comfort to investors, aid in stabilization efforts while countering the malign influence of the US.

Reviews and interviews: The Diversity Delusion - How Race and Gender Pandering Corrupt the University and Undermine Our Culture

Book The Diversity Delusion
America is in crisis, from the university to the workplace. Toxic ideas first spread by higher education have undermined humanistic values, fueled intolerance, and widened divisions in our larger culture. Chaucer, Shakespeare and Milton? Oppressive. American history? Tyranny. Professors correcting grammar and spelling, or employers hiring by merit? Racist and sexist. Students emerge into the working world believing that human beings are defined by their skin color, gender, and sexual preference, and that oppression based on these characteristics is the American experience. Speech that challenges these campus orthodoxies is silenced with brute force.

The Diversity Delusion argues that the root of this problem is the belief in America's endemic racism and sexism, a belief that has engendered a metastasizing diversity bureaucracy in society and academia. Diversity commissars denounce meritocratic standards as discriminatory, enforce hiring quotas, and teach students and adults alike to think of themselves as perpetual victims. From #MeToo mania that blurs flirtations with criminal acts, to implicit bias and diversity compliance training that sees racism in every interaction, Heather Mac Donald argues that we are creating a nation of narrowed minds, primed for grievance, and that we are putting our competitive edge at risk.

But there is hope in the works of authors, composers, and artists who have long inspired the best in us. Compiling the author's decades of research and writing on the subject, The Diversity Delusion calls for a return to the classical liberal pursuits of open-minded inquiry and expression, by which everyone can discover a common humanity.

Bosnian town bans ALL politicians after being lied to repeatedly

A town who has become tired of voting for different parties only to receive the same corruption has officially kicked out politicians in exchange for self-governance.
Podgora, Bosnia No politician
After being lied to over and over again and voting party after party into government, only to see the same corruption spread, a town in Bosnia just banned all politicians.

Bosnian politicians are wrapping up their final days of campaigning this week as elections are scheduled for Sunday. But there is at least one town that won't allow them to pass. Podgora is that place, and it is full of people who've become tired of being lied to over and over again.

Notoriously liberal Facebook bans LGBT advertisements

mark zuckerberg

Facebook has been blocking gay-themed advertisements from running on its platform, categorizing them as "political," according to a report.

The Washington Post claimed to have found "dozens of advertisements mentioning LGBT themes and words that the company blocked for supposedly being political, according to a public database Facebook keeps."

CEO of the non-profit LGBT Network, David Kilmnick, accused Facebook of targeting his advertisements "because we were LGBT."

Comment: Complaints from conservatives that Facebook and other social media platforms are unfairly targeting them may not be entirely true (although that's still open to debate). It seems more likely that the increasing pressure on the platform to censor wrong-speak has them taking a shotgun approach and banning everything anyone might find offensive, dealing with the repercussions after the fact. What an absolute mess.
