US, Europe 'growing weary of Ukraine issue' - Russia, US have 'special responsibility' have to resume talks at some point - Moscow

The United States cannot support Ukraine endlessly because it has its own problems and, like European countries, is getting increasingly tired of the Ukrainian issue and financial burden, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday.

On Saturday, NBC News reported that US and European officials were expressing doubts about Ukraine's ability to break what they call a "stalemate" on the battlefield, and they were urging Ukraine to resort to peaceful negotiations.

"In both the US and Europe, there is growing fatigue with the Ukrainian issue as such, with the Kiev regime and with the burden they have placed on their shoulders," Peskov told Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin.

The Kremlin's spokesman specified that he meant the "financial feeding of the Ukrainian regime and the provision of it with ammunition and weapons. Even the most economically powerful countries, such as the US, cannot do this indefinitely and they have enough problems of their own .... and at some point it all becomes too much of a burden for them to bear," Peskov said.

Comment: As noted above, some factions of the US wanted to make it clear through their propaganda outlet NBC that they're ready to wind down their failing proxy war in Ukraine, and that the Kiev-junta could be forced to enter into some kind of deal with Russia: US, EU officials broach topic of peace negotiations with Ukraine - NBC

However, whilst they mention 'negotiations', it's unlikely that Russia will be negotiating very much, because they've won. Although, to help the US save face, they might agree to some 'concessions' of little import.

Taken together, it's notable that, with Peskov's statement in mind, Moscow also released the following statement earlier on in the day, which implies that overt diplomatic channels may be reopened:
Russia-US relations are at zero or even below zero, but since the two countries have a special responsibility for global and strategic stability, the dialogue will eventually have to be resumed one way or another, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday.

"The relationship is at zero, and I would say below zero. But since both the US and we have a special responsibility for world stability and strategic stability, one way or another we will have to resume this conversation in time," Peskov told Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin.

The deterioration of relations between Russia and the United States was initiated by the Americans, he added.

Contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden are possible if there is mutual desire and readiness, but certain conditions must be met to restore them, Peskov said.

"President Putin has repeatedly said that he is ready for any contacts," the Kremlin spokesman added.

Iran and the battle of economic corridors

Iran economic corridors
The protocol of China's transport corridor to Europe through Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey has been signed by the ministers and representatives of the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

The signing took place on the sidelines of the first Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) International Transport Forum in Tashkent on Thursday.

The first transport forum of the SCO is currently underway in Uzbekistan, bringing together representatives from the transportation authorities of member countries and over 60 major companies from 15 countries.

Under the protocol, unification of tariffs and transportation procedures and border processes will be implemented among the countries, on the basis of which it is expected that a significant share of China's transit to Europe will shift to Iran's East-West transit route.

Australia's secret support for the Israeli assault on Gaza, through Pine Gap.

The Pine Gap US surveillance base located outside of Alice Springs in Australia is collecting an enormous range of communications and electronic intelligence from the brutal Gaza-Israel battlefield - and this data is being provided to the Israel Defence Forces.

Two large Orion geosynchronous signals intelligence satellites, belonging to the US and operated from Pine Gap, are located 36,000 kms above the equator over the Indian Ocean. From there, they look down on the Middle East, Europe and Africa, and gather huge amounts of intelligence data to beam back to the Pine Gap base.

After collecting and analysing the communications and intelligence data for the USA's National Security Agency (NSA), Pine Gap is providing it to the Israel Defence Forces, as it steps up its brutal assault on Palestinians in the Gaza enclave.

Comment: Likely much more to this than we will ever know.

Scott Ritter: Russia, Israel and the law of war regarding civilians

There has been much discussion in the aftermath of Hamas' October 7 attack on Israeli military bases and settlements in the vicinity of Gaza related to issues of legitimate self-defense and the legality surrounding Israel's use of force in response to that attack.

Inevitably, this discussion leads to an effort to compare Russia's conduct in the Special Military Operation with Israel's behavior to date regarding Gaza. The particular example of Mariupol is often raised as a point of comparison with the ongoing Israeli operation in Gaza. While it is far too soon to be able to make such a direct comparison of those two battles, one can examine the foundation of international law relied upon by both Russia and Israel in justifying their respective military operations. Sadly, Israel is found wanting.

Russia has cited the inherent right of individual and collective self-defense, as enshrined in Article 51 of the Charter, as justification for the initiation of its military operation.

Article 51 reads as follows:
"Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security. Measures taken by Members in the exercise of this right of self-defense shall be immediately reported to the Security Council and shall not in any way affect the authority and responsibility of the Security Council under the present Charter to take at any time such action as it deems necessary in order to maintain or restore international peace and security."

Notes From The Edge Of The Narrative Matrix

They're dropping bombs on a concentration camp full of children. THEY'RE DROPPING BOMBS ON A CONCENTRATION CAMP FULL OF CHILDREN.

Not in the past. Right now. They're still doing it. They show no signs of stopping.

No part of opposing this should be remotely controversial.

They're dropping bombs on a concentration camp full of kids. Even shitlibs and pseudo-leftists who get every other foreign policy issue wrong are managing to get this one right, it's that obvious. Anyone getting this issue wrong can be permanently dismissed without any real loss.

Special Counsel Jack Smith fumes after Judge Cannon blasts DOJ prosecutors, signals she may postpone classified docs trial

Special Counsel Jack Smith attacked Trump after the former president's attorneys filed a motion for a stay in the January 6 case in DC.

"President Trump respectfully requests that the Court stay all proceedings in this case pending resolution of his Immunity Motion," Trump's lawyers wrote in the motion filed Wednesday evening.

Trump's lawyers filed the motion just hours after Judge Aileen Cannon signaled she would postpone the classified documents case in Southern Florida.

Judge Aileen Cannon last month paused litigation in Jack Smith's classified documents case as she decides whether to grant Trump's motion to extend deadlines related to classified material.

Last month Trump attorneys Chris Kise and Todd Blanche accused Jack Smith's prosecutors of using dilatory tactics to slow-roll the discovery process and taking too long to turn over evidence. Blanche and Kise said the May trial date makes the schedule "unworkable," according to the motion reviewed by The Gateway Pundit.

There can be no neutrality regarding the Middle East conflict, a spokesman for Israel's Foreign Ministry has claimed...

Nations that have failed to support Israel's response to the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7 are on the side of the militant group in the conflict, the Israeli Foreign Ministry has declared. There can be no neutrality regarding the conflict, a ministry spokesman has inisisted.

Speaking at a virtual media briefing on Friday, Lior Hayat described Israel's intention to obliterate Hamas as an existential goal. The group's leadership, he claimed, is planning "another October 7 massacre, and another one after that, and another one after that."

Comment: Projection and hysterics. Source?

After the attack, Hayat said:
"Israel received unprecedented international support because no one could see those atrocities and not understand what we are dealing with. I want to send a very clear message to the international community. If you do not condemn Hamas, if you do not [support] Israel's right to self-defense, you are supporting Hamas.

"There is no middle way. You are either standing with Israel or you are standing with Hamas."

Comment: Either way, Hayat's statements increase the possibility of WW3.

Biden wants arms deals with Israel to be done in 'complete secrecy'

"I've never seen anything like it," said Josh Paul, a former top State Department official.

In a highly unusual move, the White House has requested for it to be able to conduct arms deals with Israel in complete secrecy, without oversight from Congress or the public — in a time when the U.S. is supporting a military that experts say has been committing war crimes in Gaza and beyond.

The White House made the request within a $106 billion supplemental defense funding request sent on October 20. As reported by Women for Weapons Trade Transparency for In These Times, the White House is asking for up to $3.5 billion in military funding for Israel to be able to purchase weapons and other equipment, from sources like the U.S. military or U.S. defense contractors, without the spending having to be approved by or even disclosed to Congress.

Pentagon admits US running spy drones over Gaza

The US military has acknowledged carrying out "unarmed" drone flights over Gaza, saying the UAVs were deployed to help locate hostages taken by Hamas. American officials cited by the media insist the aircraft are not supporting Israeli operations in the area.

In a brief statement on Friday, Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder confirmed that the drone missions "began after the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel," during which the Palestinian militant group took over 200 hostages.

"In support of hostage recovery efforts, the US is conducting unarmed UAV flights over Gaza, as well as providing advice and assistance to support our Israeli partner as they work on their hostage recovery efforts," Ryder said.

Comment: "But we're only advisors."
