Israel's foundation in a 'terroristic campaign' is the 'deep wound in that part of the world' - Author Andrew Sullivan

One of the positive things about the Gaza onslaught is that it has revealed to reasonable Americans that Israel has no answer to its foundational problem - the question of Palestinian disenfranchisement - except killing and ethnically-cleansing Palestinians. And that the nihilism of that Israeli policy is longstanding: Gaza is filled with refugees from 1948 and their descendants.

Thus the current onslaught has broached a root-causes conversation: the wisdom or justice of establishing a Jewish state there in the first place.

Yesterday Andrew Sullivan posted a dialogue with Sam Harris in which Sullivan demolished Harris by repeatedly citing the injustice entailed in Israel's creation: the terroristic expulsion and ethnic cleansing of the Nakba is "the deep wound in that part of the world," "the most recent big event in the history of that part of the world - and the Palestinians had almost no say in any of it."

Sott Exclusive: A world infected by psychopaths

Image
...and the U.S., U.K., and other countries responsible for the suffering of millions
The image to the right caught my eye the other day. How true. As I'm currently writing this, Israeli's "holy army of brave soldiers" continues to kill as many as they can. The death toll in Gaza currently stands at 2,016 and rising; the majority of deaths are innocent families. Psychopath Bibi must be proud of his heartless gang of Israeli shock troops.

The Powers That Be appear to be quite good at rewarding cowards. Whether it is supporting and defending an out-of-control police force, arming "religiously motivated" extremist groups - with convenient motives - such as IS/ISIS/ISIL and the Taliban, or backing Nazi nut jobs.

These Frankenstein creations with their sniper rifles, tanks, big guns and armor, and radical ideas brainwashed into them are as cowardly as their ''creators'', the psychopaths ruling our world who care about little else other than their own positions of power, $-money stash and control over others.

When such people are the ones calling the shots - literally and figuratively - what fate awaits our 'civilized' society but destruction in one form or another?

Federal Judge orders IRS to come up with better explanation of missing Lerner e-mails

The dog-ate-my-homework - er, excuse me, hard-drive-ate-our-emails excuse did just about as well in federal court as it would during an IRS audit. Judge Emmet Sullivan rejected the IRS' response to the Judicial Watch complaint about missing e-mails from Lois Lerner and other IRS employees involved in the targeting scandal yesterday. Sullivan in effect took steps to conduct his own independent probe, issuing an order demanding specific answers - and demanding them by one week from today:
A federal judge asked the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for more information on efforts it made to recover missing e-mail from the computer of an agency official at the heart of a quarrel between Congress and the Obama administration over scrutiny of Tea Party organizations.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan's order today giving the IRS until Aug. 22 to come up with further details on what it did to retrieve e-mail from the malfunctioning computer of Lois Lerner signals his dissatisfaction with the agency's earlier explanation, contained in an Aug. 11 filing.

The order comes in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by the activist group Judicial Watch. The complaint seeks Lerner's e-mail and other communications concerning the processing of applications for tax-exempt status.

Mission Accomplished: Moscow confirms delivery of aid to E. Ukraine, trucks return to Russia

Russian border guard
© Reuters / Alexander DemianchukA Russian border guard opens a gate in front of a truck from a convoy that delivered humanitarian aid for Ukraine on its return to Russia at border crossing point "Donetsk" in Russia's Rostov Region August 23, 2014.
Russia's Foreign Ministry has confirmed humanitarian aid has been delivered to the besieged city of Lugansk in eastern Ukraine. Meanwhile all trucks that delivered aid had returned to Russia.

"We express our satisfaction that the Russian humanitarian aid for those in need in southeastern Ukrainian south-east has been delivered as intended. We were motivated only by the goal of helping civilian citizens in need," the statement read.

The Foreign Ministry also said that they were "getting a lot of feedback from the residents of Lugansk, who were thankful for such a good attitude from the Russian part."

It also underlined that the Russian representatives of the Red Cross were in close cooperation with the leadership and employees of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), and the ICRC has proved to be "a responsible partner."

Comment: Will the Western media and politicians stop ranting 'Russian invasion', ignoring the fact that 'these trucks are inspected by Ukraine's border guards', 'Aid is delivered under the supervision of international red cross' and the 'trucks are back in Russia after inspection'? Probably not. Shortest ... invasion ... ever!

Putin sets Merkel straight: Further delays of aid delivery to Ukraine would have been unacceptable

putin merkel
Further delays in the delivery of Russian aid to eastern Ukraine, which is facing a humanitarian disaster, would have been unacceptable, President Vladimir Putin has said in a phone call with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"Given the obvious protractions by Kiev on the issue of the delivery of Russian aid to southeast regions of Ukraine, which are suffering a humanitarian catastrophe, a decision was made on sending the convoy. Further delaying it would have been unacceptable," Putin told Merkel on Friday, the Kremlin's press service reported.

Comment: Putin inserts humanity back into politics, and puts the West to shame. When you are aware that your neighboring people are suffering and face a humanitarian crisis, it is unacceptable not to offer that aid immediately. And what do the West and Kiev call that? "Invasion of humanitarian aid". It takes a psychopathic mind to place the words "humanitarian" and "invasion" into a sentence, and a lot of gullibility from people to believe it.

See this pathetic example penned by the editorial board of the Washington Post: The West must oppose Russia's 'humanitarian' invasion of Ukraine

NYC's stop-and-frisk policy not effective in reducing murders and shooting

Data on New York City's stop-and-frisk policing program during the reign of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg show the policy, which disproportionately targeted minorities, was not effective in reducing shootings and murders, according to a new report.

Officials in the Big Apple have long justified the punitive law enforcement tactic as a needed tool for reducing gun violence and the sheer number of firearms on city streets. During the Bloomberg era, New York Police Department data shows that NYPD officers made more than 5 million stops, a quarter of them of young black men who represent only 1.9 percent of the city's population.

The racial profiling associated with the program created much animosity between city communities and the police department. The policy has been modified after a tense legal fight at the end of Bloomberg's third term and mayoral election where the program was front and center.

A new analysis by the New York Civil Liberties Union of the New York Police Department's records on the stop-and-frisk policy found that as the number of stops skyrocketed from 2002 to 2011 - the highpoint for stops associated with the program, at 685,724 - the number of guns recovered only changed slightly, going up and down without direct correlation to the number of stops conducted.

Serbia ready to increase exports of dairy products to Russia

Serbia said it's ready to increase exports to Russia of dairy products, primarily cheese, in the next two or three weeks, adding to the list of countries providing substitutes for embargoed goods from the West.

"We will be ready to deliver dairy products from Serbia if the country's veterinary service is ready to provide guarantees," ITAR-TASS quotes Russian Agriculture Minister Nikolai Fyodorov after he met with his Serbian counterpart Snezana Bogosavljevic-Boskovic on Thursday.

Currently there are 41 firms in Serbia authorized to export food to Russia. Russia is ready to grant accelerated access to its market for up to 30 more suppliers, if the country is ready "to be responsible for the activities of these enterprises," Fyodorov said.

"Russia is interested in all our agricultural and food products, particularly meat, milk, fruit and vegetables. We can export as much cheese as we can produce," Snezana Bogosavljevic-Boskovic, the Serbian Agriculture and Environmental Protection Minister said, adding that such exports would not affect domestic market prices.

The Russian embargo on European agricultural goods created "a unique chance Serbia should use if it is able to meet Russia's high standards and regulations," Bogosavljevic-Boskovic said.

Trade in agricultural goods between the Russia and Serbia may almost double from $270 million to half a billion US dollars a year in a short time, Fyodorov assumed.

Serbia would not allow the re-export of European food products banned by Russia through its territory, the Serbian minister said.

"Our side is assuming great responsibility. We promise to do everything possible to control the export procedures," she said.

On top of that, Bogosavljevic-Boskovic said Serbia is willing to invest in joint agricultural investment projects together with Russian businesses.

EU Justice Commissioner: Google is 'distorting' and undermining EC privacy ruling

Image
© Reuters /Darren StaplesGoogle and other prolific search engines are undermining the ECJ's Right to be Forgotten Ruling, the EU Justice Commissioner warns.
Google and other prolific search engines are "distorting" and undermining the European High Court's recent 'Right to be Forgotten' ruling, the European Commission's (EC) most senior justice official has warned.

The EU Justice Commissioner, Martine Reicherts, has accused the tech giant and other internet search engines of effectively undermining planned data protection reforms.

The controversial ruling, which allows individuals to request search engines remove links to web pages about them online, has been endorsed by multiple privacy groups around the world. But certain search engines and groups advocating freedom of speech, oppose the legislation.

In an official address in Lyon last week, Reicherts confirmed she will not preside over search engines' abuse of this "crucial ruling" to deter the EC from cultivating a "digital single market" for companies. Equally, she will not allow the contravention of this ruling in violation of citizens' rights, she added.

St. Louis police target St. Mark's Church's school building, which has been 'safe space' for Ferguson community

The St. Louis County Police showed up at the St. Mark's Church nearby Ferguson, which the community has been using as a "safe space" for Ferguson and other community residents. Organizers were uncertain of what was taken but maintained that police were sending a message that not even this space was a place residents could go and be safe.

A volunteer, John Chasnoff, who has been working as part of a coalition to transform the space into a "humanitarian shelter," said that the space has been open from about 7 am to 2 am so that people are there to help anyone who might need assistance. For example, community members can come get water, go inside to escape the summer heat or they could get help if they have just been hit with tear gas.

Another organizer in Ferguson, Philip Agnew, who is from Florida and has done work with The Dream Defenders, explained to people that this is a "safe space" for community to "be rehabilitated" and "be healed," where they can come if something happens and regain their composure so they can go back out and "face what the police are doing to the community."

But, on Wednesday, at least six or seven police officers came to the school building and threatened the church with arrests if they continued to allow people to be in the church at night. Police claimed the church did not have the proper "occupancy permit." Legal support was seeking answers from police so the pastor of the church could figure out whether the school building could be open this evening or not.

Comment: The Police State respects nothing but its own power. The message being sent? "There's nowhere you can hide."
