Lavrov continues to deliver: West may use ISIS as pretext to bomb Syrian govt forces

Image

If the West bombs Islamic State militants in Syria without consulting Damascus, the anti-ISIS alliance may use the occasion to launch airstrikes against President Bashar Assad's forces, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"There are reasons to suspect that air strikes on Syrian territory may target not only areas controlled by Islamic State militants, but the government troops may also be attacked on the quiet to weaken the positions of Bashar Assad's army," Lavrov said Tuesday.

Such a development would lead to a huge escalation of conflict in the Middle East and North Africa, Lavrov told reporters in Moscow after a meeting with the foreign minister of Mali.

Comment: ISIS' brutal murders and executions are used to propel the West and Israel's insane objectives. For more information check out:

Sotloff allegedly sold to American-created ISIS by American-supported 'moderate' Syrian rebel group

Slain American journalist Steven Sotloff was sold to Islamic State militants before they eventually beheaded him, a spokesperson for the man's family now claims.

Barak Barfi, a research fellow at the New America Foundation and a representative for the Sotloffs, told CNN on Monday that militants from the group formerly known as ISIS paid supposedly moderate rebels in Syria for the freelance journalist after he disappeared there last year.

Bush-era memos just released show how president has virtually unlimited power to spy on Americans

Image
The news: The U.S. Justice Department released a pair of decade-old memos Friday night that the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) says suggest that the "president's power to monitor the communications of Americans is virtually unlimited" when trying to gain foreign intelligence.

The memos provide legal justification for the warrantless wiretapping started by the Bush administration in the wake of 9/11. Written by Jack Goldsmith, who was the head of Bush's Office of Legal Counsel, they detail a program called "Stellar Wind" that allowed the NSA to monitor communications in the U.S. as long as one end of the communication was overseas and at least one person taking part was thought to be related to al-Qaida, according to the Washington Post.

The program was put under court control in 2007 after the New York Times exposed it two years earlier. But these memos provide the most thorough view we've ever had of the Bush administration's surveillance efforts.

Comment: While spying was ramped up under Bush, the Obama administration has doubled down on the surveillance of Americans and the world. Clearly this is not just the result of one president's lack of scruples. It's a policy that passes through multiple administrations and continues to this day.

US tells little brother EU not to release data protection review to European lawmakers

Image

The United States has instructed Europol, the European Union's police agency, to withhold its own annual internal data-protection review from EU lawmakers because the report was written without the US Treasury Department's permission.

Europol drafted the data-protection report "without prior written authorisation from the information owner (in this case the Treasury Department)," according to the US, violating "security protocols" that could "undermine the relationship of trust needed to share sensitive information between enforcement agencies."

The report, drafted by Europol's Joint Supervisory Body, outlines how data concerning EU citizens and residents is transferred to the US, according to the EUobserver. The document is mainly known to monitor implementation of the EU-US Terrorist Finance Tracking Program, or TFTP. Basically, the US Treasury Department is quite territorial about how the TFTP is adhering to European data protection compliance.

EU ombudsman Emily O'Reilly said Europol refused to allow her to see the report based on US demands. O'Reilly then confronted US ambassador to the EU Anthony Gardner in July. Gardner confirmed the order.

Russian-Iranian barter: Oil for power plants

Moscow and Tehran are discussing plans for Russian companies to help construct power plants in Iran, in return for crude oil, sources close to the trade talks now underway in Tehran told ITAR-TASS. The sources did not disclose the amount of Iranian oil to be delivered in exchange for the power plants, but estimate the first stage of the contract could be worth up to $5 billion.

Russian state-run power utility Inter RAO and Inter RAO Export, as well as Technopromexport would supply equipment and help construct the power stations in Iran, Russian Energy Minister Aleksandr Novak said in Tehran Tuesday. He said the companies will discuss details in the coming weeks. He also stressed that Western sanctions against Russia are unlikely to affect Moscow's plans to boost energy cooperation with Iran.

"I think these questions (American sanctions and bilateral cooperation between Russian and Iran) are not related, as we have long cooperated and developed mutually beneficial projects in the industries of power, oil and gas, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy," Novak said Tuesday at a meeting with Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian.

Robber barons are coming for your accounts

Image
Nearly all of us grew up thinking that we registered ourselves to prove that we were safe and responsible. We advertised our services as "registered" or "licensed," and we never thought about it beyond that point. After all, that was the way things were done, and we knew that it would help our customers trust us.

There is, however, another side to registration, one that's about to bite a lot of decent people... and hard.

What Is Registration, Really?

What did we do when we registered with a government agency? We gave them our name, address, birth date, and so on. If we thought about it at all, we thought that they were acting as some kind of guarantor of our services. But what really happened was that we told them how to find us and hurt us.

Registration involves making ourselves easy to find by enforcers, and placing ourselves at their mercy. Yes, I know that we did it ignorantly (I know I certainly did) and out of necessity, but we did hand our best "how to find me" information to enforcement agencies.

Now, what I've described above involves commercial and professional registrations. Unfortunately, the same thing applies to bank accounts and retirement accounts. When you register those with a government, you're telling them where your money is and making it very easy for them to seize it.

Initiating a Legal Procedure against the Perpetrators of 9/11 -

The following text was presented at the International Conference on "9/11 Revisited - Seeking the Truth", Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF), Kuala Lumpur, November 2012

Introduction

The tragic events of September 11, 2001 constitute a fundamental landmark in American history, a decisive watershed, a breaking point.

Millions of people have been misled regarding the causes and consequences of 9/11.

September 11 2001 opens up an era of crisis, upheaval and militarization of American society. The post September 11, 2001 era is marked by the outright criminalization of the US State, including its judicial, foreign policy, national security and intelligence apparatus.

9/11 marks the onslaught of the "Global War on Terrorism" (GWOT), used as a pretext and a justification by the US and its NATO allies to carry out a "war without borders", a global war of conquest.

A far-reaching overhaul of US military doctrine was launched in the wake of 9/11.

Comment: The chief beneficiary of the events of 9/11 has been Israel.

Russian MP suggests nationalizing Google over security fears

Image

A ruling party lawmaker has said he will press for Google to register a subsidiary in Russia and comply with all Russian laws after uncovering the software giant's alleged cooperation with foreign security services.

"We hold that in due time we must see the nationalization of Google, meaning that Google's operations concerning Russia must fall under Russian jurisdiction and competence," MP Yevgeny Fyodorov of the parliamentary majority caucus United Russia told a press conference on Tuesday. This will mean national control over the legal entity and all the company communications, the lawmaker explained.

Fyodorov wants Google to register a subsidiary in Russia by the beginning of 2015.

The MP said the Russian Federation would now face a long period of foreign aggression and that it must prepare all its defenses, including those in mass media and information. He added that the authorities must gradually transfer the control of all sensitive internet resources in the country to Russian specialists' control. This would assure that Russian laws are observed in full and also give a boost to the hi-tech sector of the economy, Fyodorov said.

Comment: Who can blame the Russians? It's become apparent that Google is in bed with Western intelligence and has been feeding them data on its citizens for many years.

Russian Defense Ministry sez jet fighters didn't approach Canadian ship in Black Sea

Two Russian planes flying over the Black Sea didn't approach a Canadian navy ship in the area. Also, the flight was planned and in accordance with international law, Russia's Defense Ministry stated.

"On September 7, 2014, the crew of two aircraft, an Su-24 and an An-26 from the Russian Air Force, successfully completed planned flights over neutral waters of the Black Sea in the area of the state borders of the Russian Federation," Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov said, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

"The Russian Air Force planes' flight path ran through a region where a ship from the Canadian Navy, the Toronto, was located, but did not approach the foreign warship," he added.

The flights took place Sunday, and immediately triggered an official online statement from the Canadian Ministry of National Defense, which announced that Russia conducted "unnecessarily provocative" actions that "risk escalating tensions even further." He noted, however, that those actions"did not in any way pose a threat to the Canadian ship."

The incident comes after the NATO summit in Wales on September 4-5, where member states agreed to expand the alliance's infrastructure in Eastern Europe.

Russia's NATO envoy, Aleksandr Grushko, commented on the move that NATO used the crisis in Ukraine as a pretext to step up its military presence near Russian borders. Grushko described the alliance's role in the Ukrainian conflict as "extremely destructive."

After the Crimea joined Russia following a referendum, NATO boosted its naval presence in the Black Sea and stepped up air patrols over the Baltic states.

The vessel HMCS Toronto, involved in the latest incident, was deployed to the Black Sea as part of a NATO mission to the region.

Comment: Considering that the US and Ukraine have launched maritime exercises in the Black Sea, it's no surprise that Russia would have a military presence in the area. The West is increasingly encroaching upon Russia's borders, so it's pretty ridiculous that Western governments would label Russia's reactions to that as "unnecessarily provocative". If anything is escalating tensions, it's the presence of Western military near Russia's borders.

Obama - Waging permanent wars in the name of peace

Image
© Tim Anderson
Permanent war is official US policy. Obama is the latest in a long line of rogue warrior presidents.

He's waged multiple direct and proxy wars. He's done so throughout his tenure.

He has lots more death and destruction in mind. More on this below.

America's culture is violent. It's always been this way. It glorifies wars in the name of peace.

It has the highest homicide among Western nations by far.

Civilian gun ownership is out-of-control.

Proliferation leaves everyone vulnerable. Many inner city communities are virtual war zones. It's unsafe to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

About 100,000 Americans are annual gun violence victims. Each fatality leaves two others wounded.

Countless others are irreparably harmed. Militarized cops make their own rules. They operate extrajudicially.

They brutalize and kill with impunity. Blacks, Latinos and ethnic minorities are targets of choice.

Nothing whatever is done to curb things. The right to bear arms assures using them irresponsibly.

It's commonplace throughout America. It's mostly because Washington claims a divine right to advance its imperium.
