Best of the Web: Things are getting scary: Global police, precrime and the war on domestic 'extremists'

Domestic News

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you may be an anti-government extremist (a.k.a. domestic terrorist) in the eyes of the police.

As such, you are now viewed as a greater threat to America than ISIS or al Qaeda.

Let that sink in a moment.

If you believe in and exercise your rights under the Constitution (namely, your right to speak freely, worship freely, associate with like-minded individuals who share your political views, criticize the government, own a weapon, demand a warrant before being questioned or searched, or any other activity viewed as potentially anti-government, racist, bigoted, anarchic or sovereign), you have just been promoted to the top of the government's terrorism watch list.

I assure you I'm not making this stuff up.

Police agencies now believe the "main terrorist threat in the United States is not from violent Muslim extremists, but from right-wing extremists."

A New York Times editorial backs up these findings: Law enforcement agencies around the country are training their officers to recognize signs of anti-government extremism and to exercise caution during routine traffic stops, criminal investigations and other interactions with potential extremists. "The threat is real," says the handout from one training program sponsored by the Department of Justice. Since 2000, the handout notes, 25 law enforcement officers have been killed by right-wing extremists, who share a "fear that government will confiscate firearms" and a "belief in the approaching collapse of government and the economy." So what is the government doing about these so-called terrorists?

The government is going to war.

Again.

Only this time, it has declared war against so-called American "extremists."

Mush for brains: US demands Iraq cease cooperation with Russia in war against ISIL

Retired US General John Allen, who is coordinating US-led anti-ISIL campaign, asked Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi not to cooperate with Moscow in the fight against the radical Sunni group, which has largely remained unaffected by American airstrikes, the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported.

"John Allen... informed Haider al-Abadi that Washington was disturbed by Iraq's alliance [with Russia], and said, to the letter, that 'President Barack Obama is enquiring regarding his role [in the fight against ISIS]... Shouldn't Iraq be thanking the US?'" a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the London-based daily.

The meeting allegedly took place in early October.

Comment: Of course the US and Israel don't want their multi-billion dollar terrorist infrastructure to be lit up by Russian SU-25's. Also see:

Argentine president Kirchner: Putin is global leader in fighting terrorism

Image

Comment: On the surface, Kirchner is referring to Putin's efforts to fight ISIS in Syria, but the subtext could very well be that Putin is the global leader in fighting against the real terrorists of the world, the U.S.

Russian President Vladimir Putin plays a key role in fighting global terrorism, his Argentinian counterpart Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner told RT, after speaking with the Russian leader on Wednesday.

The two presidents held a video conference to mark 130 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and discussed Russian-Argentinian partnership in a number of fields.

Having highlighted political and economic cooperation, as well as cultural exchange, Putin said that the countries' current bilateral relations should help "develop the strategic partnership" further.

"Russia and Argentina closely cooperate in the United Nations and G20, consistently asserting basic principles of international law, respect for national sovereignty and non-interference in domestic affairs," Putin said, adding that Moscow and Buenos Aires have also taken consistent stands on "non-acceptance of terrorism and extremism, double standards and the policy of sanctions."

Russia's envoy disappointed: 'London refuses to share ISIS target information with Moscow'

The UK has refused to assist Russia with data on ISIS targets in Syria, Russia's ambassador to Britain has said. London follows Washington in its decision not to share intelligence data with Russia, despite the US's signing of an agreement on airstrikes.

Britain has declined to cooperate with Russia's military campaign against Islamic State (formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Syria, insisting on keeping its intelligence data regarding terrorist installations there classified, Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Alexander Yakovenko told Rossija 24 TV channel in an interview on Wednesday.

"We are conducting active work with the British on the Syrian issue. My contacts in the Foreign Office prove that so far this work isn't very successful," he said.

In a recent meeting with Yakovenko, the British Foreign Office head refused to share British military information or contact details for the Syrian Free Army with Russia, saying that deputy foreign minister Mikhail Bogdanov already had all the necessary data and was acquainted with representatives of the moderate opposition, the ambassador said.

Comment: It isn't clear what the Brits hope to accomplish by not sharing their intelligence on ISIS. The U.S.-led coalition hasn't made very good use of it so far.

Moscow continues peace efforts - holds dialogues with legitimate Syrian opposition groups

Speculation of a possible move by Russia to win support from the Syrian opposition is growing following a recent meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Ahmad Al-Jarba, one of the leaders of the movement to oust Syria's leader Bashar al-Assad.

Little is known about the outcomes of the meeting which took place in Cairo on Oct. 17. Yet observers suggest that Russia may be acting as an intermediary in talks between the Assad government and the moderate opposition to unite against a common enemy.

Assad forced to become more flexible

According to Vyacheslav Igrunov, head of the Institute of Humanitarian and Political Studies, Damascus can no longer ignore the Syrian opposition and is in no position to destroy it.

"It is too weak to fight wars on several fronts at the same time, while the war with the opposition is making it difficult to build a single front against Islamic State," he said.

Furthermore, the opposition enjoys the support of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the U.S., which makes tensions even higher. In this situation, it would be sensible to join forces against a common enemy, but to do that, first agreement on the status of the Syrian opposition has to be reached, said Igrunov, adding that Russia is ready to act as a key intermediary.

The main problem continues to lie in the sides' lack of readiness for a compromise. According to Igrunov, Assad has turned out to be more flexible, as he has - allegedly - announced that he is prepared to back down, which cannot be said of the opposition forces.

Comment: With Russia opposing all of the Syrian government's enemies, this may not be an accurate statement. That being said, Russia firmly believes in dialogue with factions that have reasonable disagreements, if they are willing to discuss matters rationally.

Comment: Saudi Arabia may be more amenable to the Russian vision than many think.

The CIA's conclusion in 2007: 'US has no choice but to coexist with Iran', - latest Wikileaks

CIA brennan iran
CIA director John Brennan
The United States has to "find a way to coexist" with Iran, said CIA Director John Brennan, according to a new leak by Wikileaks. Wikileaks published Wednesday data the organization claimed had obtained from an email account belonging to Brennan. The group initially made the announcement in tweet, as an investigation was already under way by the FBI and Secret Service over the hack of Brennan's account, claimed by an American pro-Palestinian teen earlier.

Iran

In one of the documents released, Brennan gives "recommendations to the next President (assuming office in Jan. 2009) on how to play the figures on the U.S.- Iranian Chessboard."

Brennan starts the document by an analysis of Iran's "impact" in the region. "Iran will be a major player on the world stage in the decades ahead, and its actions and behavior will have a major and enduring impact on near- and long-term U.S. interests on a wide variety of regional and global issues," Brennan said. "The United States has no choice but to find a way to coexist—and to come to terms—with whatever government holds power in Tehran," Brennan furthers said. Dated November 18, 2007, the document is also filled with stale accusations against Iran with terrorism.

Comment: So the CIA can do objective analysis when it chooses. How that information is applied is another matter, as the world has seen.

Mush for brains: The hypocrisy of Britain - and the West - lecturing China

Xi

While western politicians and media slam "Chinese expansionism", it was China that was the target of the biggest aggression Asia witnessed over the course of the twentieth century.

Once upon a time the British had a reputation for being a polite nation.

That this reputation is no longer merited is shown by the boorish reception the Chinese President Xi Jinping, currently on a state visit to Britain, is receiving from sections of the British media and political class.

Comment: It's as though the entirety of Western society has mush for brains. This is what following deranged psychopaths does to a society:
Observation of the ponerization processes of various human unions throughout history easily leads to the conclusion that the initial step is a moral warping of the group's ideational contents. In analyzing the contamination of a group's ideology, we note first of all an infiltration of foreign, simplistic, and doctrinaire contents, thereby depriving it of any healthy support for, and trust in, the necessity of understanding of human nature. This opens the way for invasion by pathological factors and the ponerogenic role of their carriers. [...]

Any human group affected by the process described herein is characterized by its increasing regression from natural common sense and the ability to perceive psychological reality. Someone considering this in terms of traditional categories might consider it an instance of "turning into half-wits" or the development of intellectual deficiencies and moral failings. A ponerological analysis of this process, however, indicates that pressure is being applied to the more normal part of the association by pathological factors present in certain individuals who have been allowed to participate in the group because the lack of good psychological knowledge has not mandated their exclusion.

SOTT Focus: Closing the BUK on MH17? Dutch final report is clearly biased

Image
Like so much other propaganda that issues from the official Western channels in recent years, the 'official' story about what happened to MH17 has been presented to the public upside down, inside out and backwards.

Within a day of the crash, Western governments and their subservient press were screaming "Putin's missile!", without a shred of hard evidence to back up their hysterical claims. Yet with the recent release of the final report by Dutch authorities that pointed the finger at a "9N314M warhead as carried on a 9M38-series missile and launched by a Buk surface-to-air missile system" as the cause of the destruction of the plane, the response from the same Western powers and press has been shockingly muted.

The reason for this should be clear to all: the real goal behind the shoot-down of MH17 was achieved in the immediate days and weeks after the crash.

Soon after Putin's immediate "trial by Western media", sanctions were imposed on Russia and the South Stream pipeline agreement between Russia and the EU was cancelled. These and other punitive anti-Russian measures benefited the USA in its long, ultimately futile, war aimed at preventing the emergence of a strong Russia onto the international stage. So, as some suggest about the 9/11 attacks, was the shooting down of MH17 by Ukrainian rebels a stupendously lucky break for Western warmongers in that it came at just the right time to add fuel to its ongoing anti-Russian propaganda campaign? Or is it possible that Western warmongers themselves were responsible for the shooting down of MH17?

Before you decide, there are a few things you should consider.

As crazy as it sounds, the Saudis are going broke.

Of course you wouldn't know it if you read the account of King Salman's latest visit to Washington which included booking the entire DC Four Seasons and procuring a veritable fleet of Mercedes S-Class sedans.

You'd also be inclined to think that everything is fine if you simply looked at SAMA holdings (i.e. FX reserves) which still total nearly $700 billion.

Comment: This analysis reveals one reason why the Saudis have become so desperate in their genocidal war against Yemen. Hopefully they'll run out of money sooner than later, as their plans all fall apart and a multipolar world pushes back. Also see:

Assad's visit to Moscow further entrenches the alliance between Russia and Syria

Image
© Alexei Druzhinin/Russian Presidential Press and Information Office/TASSRussian President Vladimir Putin shaking hand with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Moscow's Kremlin
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's sensational visit to Moscow on Tuesday evening was clear evidence of Russia's leading role in the struggle against the Islamic State, whose defeat, Damascus hopes, will entail a political settlement in the country, polled analysts have told TASS.

As Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday morning, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad paid a brief working visit to Moscow on Tuesday evening for narrow and wide format talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. As follows from an official statement posted on the Kremlin's website, Assad thanked Putin "for the political steps that Russia has been taking since the beginning of the crisis and that did not let the events in Syria follow a more tragic scenario." Russia's air group in Syria joined the operation against Islamic State militants in Syria on September 30.

The president of the Middle East Institute, Yevgeny Satanovsky, believes that Assad's brief visit to Moscow showed to all of his neighbors that the Syrian president should by no means be ignored in shaping Syria's future political system. "This is a hard fact. It does not depend on his visit to Moscow. His was a brave move by the leader of a country waging a war on terrorists. Assad, in contrast to his father Hafez Assad, who had been a career military pilot, is an eye doctor by profession. At the same time he is the commander-in-chief of Syria's armed forces and a man of great personal courage," Satanovsky told TASS.
