Trey Gowdy: 'Be very careful' relying on NYT & WaPo for leaked news (VIDEO)

Trey Gowdy
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) appeared on Fox's First 100 Days Thursday evening after a closed door briefing earlier in the day by FBI director James Comey concerning the agency's investigation into claims of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The interview begins with host Martha MacCallum mentioning that Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA), who attended the same meeting, was "rattled" over the lack of information Comey gave concerning Russian involvement in the election.

The self-proclaimed republics in eastern Ukraine established the regime of cessation of hostilities in Donbass at 08:00 GMT on Sunday, Donetsk People's Republic's (DPR) Deputy Defense Minister Eduard Basurin told reporters.

He pointed out that the ceasefire regime was respected.

"Now the initiative on the ceasefire across the contact line since 11:00 a.m. [local time] works. That is our joint initiative with the LPR [Lugansk People's Republic]. We proposed to stop shelling via representatives in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination [JCCC]," Basurin said.

"We will see whether Ukraine would manage to control radicals," Basurin added.

FBI quietly releases Batch #7 of Clinton investigation notes and interviews

Internet researcher Katica has again discovered the FBI quietly, and without explanation, just released another batch of documents from the "ongoing" FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton's email use and classified information. This is release #7, and follows the prior release #6 which oddly took place on Superbowl weekend.

This batch includes FBI notes from multiple interviews including Sidney Blumenthal, and contains discussions of guidance and opinion provided to Blumenthal (with the intent to pass along to Clinton) by a retired CIA operative identified in the notes as "TD".

People punish megabank HSBC: Profits plummet 82%

Bank going down

In 2012, HSBC, one of the world's largest banks, settled with the U.S. Government, avoiding criminal prosecution of its executives, for helping to launder money for Mexican drug cartels as well as Al Qaeda. According to the US Senate's report, which investigated the matter, HSBC provided a "gateway for terrorists to gain access to U.S. dollars and the U.S. financial system."

Loretta Lynch, while serving as the U.S. District Attorney in NY said HSBC engaged in a, "sustained and systemic failure to guard against the corruption of our financial system by drug traffickers and other criminals and for evading U.S. sanctions law." As a result of the criminal charges for money laundering and admitted guilt in four counts against the global banking firm.

"HSBC has agreed to forfeit 1.256 billion dollars, the largest forfeiture amount ever by a financial institution for a compliance failure," Lynch stated. At the time of the charges and the agreed upon resolution, HSBC Group Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Gulliver, said in a statement, "We accept responsibility for our past mistakes. We have said we are profoundly sorry for them." He also promised that the bank had taken, "extensive and concerted steps to put in place the highest standards for the future." But that was then. This is now.

Best of the Web: Washington and America Implode at the Hands of a Treasonous, Obama-Led Shadow Government

Trump and Obama
The United States federal government in Washington is under attack today. Our nation's capital is presently under siege, not from military bombs or rockets fired by any foreign enemy but from powerful enemies within. With Obama-Hillary-Soros forces ostensibly maneuvering outside official government channels, against America's legitimately elected President Trump, and their loyalist foot soldiers - the neocons and intelligence community loyalists within the CIA/NSA/FBI still operating inside deep state, criminally conspiring with Mainstream Media, this sinister alliance is also organizing legions of clueless young leftist protesters to be at the ready for deployment in the streets to wreak havoc violently rioting as paid agitator insurgents. What we have here on our hands is an American Spring uprising, an insurgent regime change operation taking place right here in our own country currently bent on overthrowing America's existing "democratically elected" government.

At no time in our prior history has anything so openly subversive and treacherously treasonous ever been perpetrated on the United States of America before... the closest being the covert conspiracy singlehandedly thwarted by America's military hero General Smedley Butler in 1934, when a band of elitist bankster traitors attempted a coup d'état against the FDR administration. The all-too-familiar divide and conquer strategy is once again the globalist go-to Modus Operandi, being implemented through multi-prong assaults waging an open insurrection war against the Trump administration in order to successfully execute a coup committed by traitors out to take down America as their latest banana republic.

Meet 'Gaddafi #2' Khalif Haftar who wants Russia's support in Libya

Libyan Field Marshall Khalif Haftar
Libyan Field Marshall Khalif Haftar
Libyan politicians have been frequenting Moscow. According to media reports, the Libyan Prime Minister, Fayez al-Sarraj, is supposed to hold a number of meetings in the Russian capital. The aim of the negotiations is attempting to, under the Kremlin's mediation, regulate the conflict between the Libyan government, army, and parliament which has split the country into two.

As the British newspaper The Times writes, the government of Italy appealed to Moscow to play the role of mediator. Rome is extremely interested in solving the migration crisis in Libya, from where a wave of refugees from North Africa goes through the Apennine Peninsula. In autumn of last year, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi even threatened to block the adoption of the EU budget if the refugee problem was not resolved.

Trump effect? Did the U.S. just quietly help Russia retake Palmyra, Syria?

Detente
Don't completely discount a US-Russia detente
The U.S. played a small but helpful role in wiping out ISIS around Palmyra. It's better than nothing — and in 2017, that counts for a lot

We were being a bit unfair when we mocked Washington for complaining about imaginary airstrikes while Russia and Syria mowed down ISIS in Palmyra.

Unlike "last time", the U.S. actually played a small — but helpful — role in destroying ISIS positions around Palmyra.

Comment: Trump has spoken out against US intervention in other countries a number of times. He has also expressed an openness about working with Russia to create better ties, and defeating terrorism. It's entirely possible that Trump ordered this assistance in Palmyra as a good faith measure; an actual act that shows - rather than claims to show - that he means what he says about all of the above. Wouldn't it be nice if he could continue doing this (if the assistance was his doing) unfettered by the psychopaths in the Deep State?

Where's Rex Tillerson? Secretary of State keeps low profile on Human Rights Reports

Rex T
© Vanity Fair
Human rights around the world are in a slump, according to a new annual US report, but it's the shrinking away of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on the matter that has many just as concerned.

When it comes to global human rights, US officials often promise to lead the fight for progress. But on Friday, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson broke a long-standing tradition by declining to make a public appearance to announce the publication of his department's Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2016.

The annual report has existed for over four decades, and recent Secretaries of State have consistently held press conferences or made public comments to mark its release. On occasion, a top staffer of the secretary would fill in, but this year, there was none of that.

Only a media call hosted by an unnamed government official coincided with the report's release. The Guardian newspaper pointed out that President Donald Trump recently condemned news reports based on anonymous sources, and the Associated Press, along with many other outlets, noted Tillerson's absence as unprecedented. "The report speaks for itself," the official said when asked why Tillerson did not present the findings, The Guardian reported. "We're very, very proud of it. The facts should really be the story here."

Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida), who sits on the Appropriations Committee on Foreign Relations, criticized the State Department and Tillerson on Twitter ahead of the report's release. "For 1st time in a long time," Rubio tweeted Thursday, "@StateDept #humanrights report will not be presented by Secretary of State. I hope they reconsider."

Tillerson's preface to the report said, "Promoting human rights and democratic governance is a core element of U.S. foreign policy. Our values are our interests when it comes to human rights," the secretary of state added. "The production of these reports underscores our commitment to freedom, democracy, and the human rights guaranteed to all individuals around the world."

Comment: The presidential vote endorsed a radical change in how government is run and its priorities. However, when presented with such differences, as in who presents a report, there comes a hue and cry for cookie-cutter protocol. A better observation would be the considerations, actions and recourse this administration applies in regards to the abominable track record of the USA, heretofore disguised in self-righteous indignation presented by a pompous Secretary of State such as John Kerry.

In retaliation against THAAD installation, China bans tour packages to S. Korea

Starting this month, Chinese citizens wishing to travel to South Korea will not be able to book trips through travel agencies, according to media reports. Thought to be a response to Korea's planned deployment of a US missile defense system, the measure could inflict severe financial damage.

Multiple media outlets have reported that the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) held an official meeting with Beijing tour operators on Thursday to inform them of the new directive.

Operators have been told to clear all the pre-purchased tours on sale by March 15, or face fines, and even potential closure, the Financial Times reports citing a source privy to CNTA instructions. Wang Ki-young, a director at South Korea's culture ministry, which was forced to convene an emergency meeting, told the newspaper the ban will initially target travel agencies located in Beijing before being rolled out across the country.

China has not officially confirmed its plans but has indirectly hinted that relations between the two Asian nations are suffering due to plans to build THAAD - Terminal High Altitude Area Defense - a multi-billion defense system that includes a powerful radar, and a launcher capable of intercepting ballistic missiles in mid-air.

Comment: The US THAAD installation most definitely has China in mind. The range and altitude of its deterrence capability targets the altitude range of much higher flying rockets than those coming short range from North Korean sources. In thwarting NK missiles, the THAAD defense system would appear to be relatively ineffective. THAAD was a cloaked means initiated by the Obama administration to deter Chinese aggression, not North Korea. In return, China is manipulating South Korea where it hurts -- in the pocketbook. The outcome of this may mean SK will be even more dependent upon the US, and the same being true between China and NK, further polarizing the sides.
