Hundreds of US Marines have arrived in Syria to establish an outpost in support of the operation to retake the city of Raqqa, the de-facto Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) capital in the country, the US-led coalition confirmed on Thursday.

"We are talking about an additional 400 or so forces in total, and they will be there for a temporary period," coalition spokesman US Air Force Colonel John Dorrian said, as cited by Reuters.

The deployment is an addition to the existing 500 US forces already in Syria and is aimed at accelerating the defeat of IS in its Syrian stronghold of Raqqa city, Dorrian said.

Comment: US Deployed Marines in Syria Without Permission of Damascus Government
The United States deployed US marines to the Syrian city of Raqqa without the permission of the Damascus government, Central Command chief Gen. Joseph Votel said in a congressional hearing on Thursday.

"We are not," Votel stated when asked whether US sent marines at the request or with the permission of the Syrian government. "We are looking at that as an extension of the authority to operate from Iraq."

'Overture to a Coup': Macedonia's crisis may lead to country's disintegration

Macedonia is sinking deeper and deeper into a severe political and institutional crisis. Three months on from snap parliamentary elections held in December, a new government still hasn't been formed. Speaking to Sputnik, Svetin Chilimanov, former advisor to the Macedonian president, warned that the crisis may lead to the country's disintegration.

Last week, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov officially refused to give the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia-led coalition a mandate to form a government, accusing SDUM leader Zoran Zaev of jeopardizing the country's sovereignty.

The SDUM, which came in second in December's elections, began talks with the Albanian minority Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) party after the Christian Democratic VMRO-DPMNE, the other of Macedonia's two major parties, failed to secure a coalition with the DUI in late January after winning a plurality in the elections.

Hypocrites: Dems are criticizing Trump's Russia policies that Obama long championed

putin obama
ONE OF THE most bizarre aspects of the all-consuming Russia frenzy is the Democrats' fixation on changes to the RNC platform concerning U.S. arming of Ukraine. The controversy began in July when the Washington Post reported that "the Trump campaign worked behind the scenes last week to make sure the new Republican platform won't call for giving weapons to Ukraine to fight Russian and rebel forces."

Ever since then, Democrats have used this language change as evidence that Trump and his key advisers have sinister connections to Russians and corruptly do their bidding at the expense of American interests. Democratic Senator Ben Cardin, the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, spoke for many in his party when he lambasted the RNC change in a July letter to the New York Times, castigating it as "dangerous thinking" that shows Trump is controlled, or at least manipulated, by the Kremlin. Democrats resurrected this line of attack this weekend when Trump advisers acknowledged that campaign officials were behind the platform change.

Maxine Waters slips up, admits Obama was spying on Trump

Lunatic Congresswoman Maxine Waters is back on MSNBC screaming "Russian hacking", in what has become a tiresome, and fully debunked narrative at this point.

This has not stopped Waters from continuing her fake news talking points, and the failing MSNBC is more than happy to give the unstable Congresswoman a platform to share her insanity. This is the woman who thought Russia had invaded North Korea, and called Trump's cabinet a bunch of scumbags.

What gives this interview entertainment value is Waters admitting (without her even knowing) that the Obama White House did indeed wiretap Donald Trump.

He added that "if the Syrian government requests, we are ready to take actions to liberate Golan."

USA

The US - A bully nation built on the tenets of violence and war

american violence

Watching Washington attack one sovereign state after another since the collapse of the Soviet Union prompts the question: Are we Americans behaving out of some inherent aggression, or is this just old-fashioned empire building by a global superpower?

Growing up in America is by nature an isolated event. Inhabiting a vast and diverse landmass with oceans for bookends, and Canada and Mexico as barely-tolerant neighbors, we are just secluded enough to possess a cultural superiority complex that makes us think everybody on the planet envies us.

Our leaders, outstanding public servants that they are, happily manipulate this blind patriotism to undertake heinous acts of unprovoked aggression around the planet. Many Americans, blissfully unaware as to what is being done to innocent people in their names, believe that all terrorists hate them just because of their freedoms.

And then... the cold, bracing slap of reality when we wake up and discover the painful truth.

It's becoming impossible to ignore and explain how the United States is behaving in foreign lands, and especially those that have been blessed (cursed?) with an abundance of natural resources needed to fuel our oil-based power trip. We slap them with the 'terrorist' label and then proceed to methodically destroy them in true bully fashion. Indeed, America appears less the amiable police officer, twirling his baton and tipping his hat to mothers and children as he walks the global beat, and more a bloodthirsty opportunist who never misses a chance to avoid diplomacy when the option of war is knocking.

Arizona Senate Committee: Passes bill to treat gold like money, remove capital gains tax

In debt we trust
© Facebook/The Republican Revolution
Today, an Arizona Senate Committee passed a bill that would eliminate state capital gains taxes on gold and silver specie, and encourage its use as currency. Final approval of the legislation would help undermine the Federal Reserve's monopoly on money.

Former US Rep. Ron Paul testified today in the Senate Finance Committee in support of House Bill 2014 (HB2014). The legislation, which previously passed the state House by a 35-24 vote, would eliminate state capital gains taxes on income "derived from the exchange of one kind of legal tender for another kind of legal tender." The bill defines legal tender as "a medium of exchange, including specie, that is authorized by the United States Constitution or Congress for the payment of debts, public charges, taxes and dues." "Specie" means coins having precious metal content. In effect, passage of the bill would, as Paul noted, "legalize competition in a Constitutional fashion."

Under current Arizona law, gold and silver are subject to capital gains tax when exchanged for Federal Reserve notes, or when used in barter transactions. If the purchasing power of the Federal Reserve note has decreased due to inflation, the metals' nominal dollar value generally rises and that triggers a "gain." In most cases, of course, the capital gain is purely fictional. But these "gains" are still taxed — thus unfairly punishing people using precious metals as money.

"We ought not to tax money, and that's a good idea. It makes no sense to tax money," said Paul. "Paper is not money, it's a substitute for money and it's fraud," Paul continued, noting the importance of honesty money vs federal reserve notes.

Today, the Senate Finance Committee passed the bill by a 4-3 vote along party lines.

An Iranian Navy commander called US actions in the Persian Gulf "unprofessional," adding that there could be "irreversible consequences." He said the US vessel changed course towards Iranian warships in the Strait of Hormuz on March 4.

According to the Iranian commander, the USNS Invincible, a tracking ship accompanied by a group of British ships, was crossing the Hormuz Strait area, when it "changed direction from the international route toward the boats of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy."

In an unprofessional move and in a maneuver accompanied by warnings, it approached our vessels at a distance of 550 meters," Lieutenant Commander Mahdi Hashemi, in command of Zolfaqar battle flotilla, said, as cited by Tasnim news agency. "Such provocations can have irreversible consequences," Hashemi said, according to the Tehran Times.
