Iranian FM: US stirring up 'Iranophobia' to boost arms sales to Arab nations

US President Donald Trump has deliberately accused Tehran of sponsoring extremist groups in the Middle East in order to stir up "Iranophobia" and boost American arms sales in the region, Iran's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"Once again, by his repetitive and baseless claims about Iran, the American president... tried to encourage the countries of the [Middle East] region to purchase more arms by spreading Iranophobia," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said a day after Trump sealed a massive arms deal with Iran's arch-rival, Saudi Arabia, worth $110 billion.

While in Riyadh, Trump pointed the finger at Iran for spreading instability and unrest across the Middle East while addressing the leaders of 55 Muslim-majority countries.

"From Lebanon to Iraq to Yemen, Iran funds, arms, and trains terrorists, militias, and other extremist groups that spread destruction and chaos across the region," Trump said, according to a White House press release. "For decades, Iran has fueled the fires of sectarian conflict and terror."

World Health Organization spends more on luxury travel than AIDS, TB and malaria

The UN's World Health Organization ponies up some $200 million a year for luxury travel, including first-class tickets and posh hotels - much more than it spends on combatting AIDS, tuberculosis, or malaria, the AP has revealed.

According to internal files obtained by the news agency, since 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) has allocated $803 million for travel - approximately $200 million per year. The WHO's two-billion-dollar annual budget is made up of contributions made by 194 member countries, of which the US is the largest sponsor.

Last year, the WHO allocated just over $60 million to tackling malaria and $59 million to containing the spread of tuberculosis, while $71 million was spent on fighting AIDS and hepatitis. Programs aimed at containing certain diseases, such as polio, do get considerably larger funding, however, with $450 million allocated annually.

Though the organization has been struggling to achieve its goals, while at the same time appealing for more financing, its employees and top brass apparently do not shy away from booking first-class airline tickets and rooms in luxurious five-star hotels.

In particular, WHO Director-General Margaret Chan and Executive Director Bruce Aylward are first and second on the list of the agency's top spenders, according to a confidential 25-page analysis of the WHO's expenses seen by AP.

The baneful apocalyptic triad of USA, Israel and Saudi Arabia

Trump effectively blessed Saudi Arabia as a pillar of moderate Islam as part of his "Muslim reset".

One Arab writer even hailed Saudi-US ties as one that "shaped the wider world" and although the wider world would undeniably agree with that reality, it would nevertheless consign such ties to the very negative end of the global affairs spectrum.

The Israeli press celebrated Trump's royal treatment in Riyadh and observed how the president and select members of his cabinet danced with swords in a ceremony that must have nauseated the families of 9/11 victims. Syrians, Yemenis and Christian minorities worldwide would have also watched that macabre spectacle with a foreboding sense of horror.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko ended up being booed after a public appearance at a memorial complex, prompting concerns about growing discontent with his rule within the country.

On May 21, which is annually observed in Ukraine as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko arrived at the Bykivnia Graves National Historic Memorial to make a public address.

After delivering his speech the Ukrainian leader was approached by a large group of people who peppered him with questions like, "How come the poorest country in Europe has such a rich president?" and demanded that he, "Reign in the judges so they stop stealing."

It's Russia's fault! Ukraine supplied 88 APCs to Iraq, but only 34 could actually move

Only 34 out of 88 armored vehicles supplied by Ukraine to Iraq as part of a 2009 deal were able to move, leaked results of the inspection revealed. The botched contract is still being probed in Kiev, but now it wants to find a Russian role there.

Ukrainian website ZN.ua obtained a letter, addressed by the former head of Ukrainian state-run weapons exporter, Ukrspetsexport, Aleksandr Kovalenko, to Ukroboronprom defense industry concern in 2014.

In the paper, Kovalenko shared the results of the inspection of the supplied armored vehicles by Ukrainian specialists, who visited Iraq earlier that year.

Trump and 55 Muslim-majority states sign pact pledging 34,000 troops to fight ISIS in Iraq and Syria

The US and Middle Eastern countries have backed a new pact that promises to provide extra troops for defeating Islamic State, singles out Iran for destabilizing the region, and says that Riyadh is to become the heart of the region's counter-terrorism operations.

Described as the Riyadh Declaration, the document was signed following US President Donald Trump's visit to the Saudi capital for a summit that brought in Islamic representatives from 55 countries, and vowed "to combat terrorism in all its forms, address its intellectual roots, dry up its sources of funding and to take all necessary measures to prevent and combat terrorist crimes in close cooperation among their states."

"The leaders welcomed the establishment of a global center for countering extremist thought to take base in Riyadh, and praised the center's strategic objectives of combating intellectual, media and digital extremism and promoting coexistence and tolerance among peoples," said the text of the document, published by the Saudi Press Agency.

Comment: Trump's visit to Riyadh is so full of hypocrisy. It's okay for US and Saudi Arabia to support their terrorists but it is not okay for other countries to fight those terrorists. As Pepe Escobar noted:
IRAN vs. THE WAHHABIS

You have all seen how turnout in the Iran elections was a huge 75%. That's a very clever electorate, as I wrote in my Asia Times column. They voted for Rouhani's increased political capital; keep going towards serious reforms - and keep talking to the West.

At least the EU seems to have got the message; that bumble head Mogherini sent a message of congratulations to Rouhani - and reconfirmed the EU is committed to the nuclear deal. What it implies is the EU is in favor of a peaceful/secure MEast.

Compare it to the Trump Wahhabi Gold Show in Riyadh. His Zio-con speechwriters want him to isolate Iran. He won't get that even from supine Europeans. Everyone knows "Iran" is shorthand for first "Assad must go" - and then go after Hezbollah. And the Wahhabis meanwhile have a green light to kill as many as they want in Yemen - with US weapons. Daesh and al-Nusra have absolutely NOTHING to do with the whole charade.

US Congressman Dennis Kucinich: "The US is under attack from within"

deep state
Personally, I'm horrified by the fact that Goldman Sachs goons are in total control of the Trump administration's economic policy. I'm also horrified that our new President's first overseas trip will be to the terrorist state of Saudi Arabia, a autocratic, brutal monarchy with undeniable ties to 9/11. I'm likewise disgusted by Attorney General Jefferson Sessions' oppressive and uncivilized relaunch of the misguided and disastrous "war on drugs." Finally, I'm very troubled by the fact Mike Flynn attempted to disrupt a military operation using Syrian Kurds to rout ISIS in Raqqa because Turkey didn't like it, given he was working as a paid agent of Turkey months earlier and never disclosed it.

There are a plethora of things to be deeply concerned about when it comes to Trump, yet the coup attempt against him being launched by elements of the deep state, corporate media and Hillary dead-ender Democrats is more concerning still. It's obvious what's happening right now is not a sincere attempt to hold a President accountable, or fight him on policy or personnel choices. Rather, this all seems to be a very deliberate and premeditated attempt to remove him from office.

The 10 ways in which Iran shows itself to be more democratic, and modern, than Saudi Arabia

Elections
Iran democratically elects its leaders
Though both Iran and Saudi Arabia define themselves Islamic states, in almost every respect Iran is a far more modern and democratic country and society than Saudi Arabia is or can ever be.

One of the most depressing aspects of the US feud with Iran - of which Donald Trump's speech in Saudi Arabia serves as merely one more example - is that by any objective measure Iran is a far more democratic and modern society, observing political and social norms far closer to those of the West, than Saudi Arabia is or can ever be.

Here are some of the differences between the two countries:

(1) Saudi Arabia is an autocratic monarchy; Iran is an Islamic Republic;

Trey Gowdy: Hillary Clinton's crimes are much worse than we first thought

Trey Gowdy
Trey Gowdy has confirmed that Clinton's crimes are far-reaching. Confirms FBI leak that most of Washington DC are implicated
Straight-talking Congressman Trey Gowdy has confirmed that the crimes Hillary Clinton is implicated in are "much worse than first thought" as details emerging from the investigation into her emails are soon to go public.

Mr. Gowdy has said that "history will be nicer" to James Comey once classified findings of the case are revealed.

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), who removed himself from the shortlist for the new Director of the FBI, has confirmed that the hold-ups with the case have been down to the far-reaching nature of the crimes with many high-level political figures in Washington D.C. also being complicit in the crimes.

Infowars reports: Gowdy's statement also indirectly confirms an Infowars report from July 7 in which an anonymous FBI source said the reason why Comey didn't prosecute Clinton over Emailgate was because it would pit the FBI against the "rest of Washington D.C." due to so many high-level politicians implicated by Clinton's crimes.
