The US has begun naval exercises with Japan and India, with the US Navy saying the drills will help the countries tackle maritime threats in the Asia-Pacific region. China says it hopes the cooperation isn't aimed against a "third country."

The US Navy, the Indian Navy, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) began the Malabar 2017 exercises in Chennai, India, on Sunday, according to the US Pacific Fleet.

The annual drills are aimed at addressing "the variety of shared threats to maritime security in the Indo-Asia Pacific," the Navy said last week.

May reportedly wants Corbyn's Labour to help her govern Britain

Prime Minister Theresa May will make an unprecedented appeal to the Labour Party to help create post-Brexit policies, leading some to suggest she has "completely run out of ideas."

A year on from when she first entered Downing Street, May will on Tuesday make a speech where she will reportedly seek to collaborate with Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party, as well as other opposition MPs.

The offer for opposition parties to have a say in policy-making is being seen as an attempt by the PM to boost support for her minority government after she failed to win an absolute majority in the Commons during last month's general election.

"At this critical time in our history, we can either be timid or we can be bold," May will say.

"We can play it safe or we can strike out with renewed courage and vigor, making the case for our ideas and values and challenging our opponents to contribute, not just criticize...

"In everything we do, we will act with an unshakable sense of purpose to build the better, fairer Britain which we all want to see."

A formal probe has been launched into possible favoritism regarding a lavish soirée in Las Vegas in honour of French president Emmanuel Macron when he was a government minister, prosecutors announced on Friday.

The judicial inquiry could deal a significant blow to Mr Macron's reformist drive as it implicates his labour minister - at the helm of a landmark labour bill - and her role in organising Mr Macron's high-profile trip to the 2016 trip to the Consumer Electronics Show.

The LA event, which reportedly cost almost €400,000 (£354,000), was orchestrated by Business France, a state body promoting French business interests abroad, at a time when Mr Macron was economy minister under the then Socialist government of his predecessor Francois Hollande.

Debunking the NYT's latest attempt to keep 'Russia hacking' fake news alive

Fake news media will do anything to keep the "Russia hacking" story alive.

The Duran reported that the latest attempt to pin some kind of Russia connection to Trump was delivered by US propaganda news outlet The New York Times, which over the weekend published a dud of a revelation that Donald Trump Jr., together with former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner had met at the Trump Tower with a lawyer who was allegedly "Kremlin connected" on June 9, 2016, shortly after Trump was assured of the Republican nomination.

The arguments of the New York Times newspaper about the details of the meeting between the presidents of Russia and the US, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, are nonsense, it indicates that the tale-tellers are sitting there, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday.

Earlier, the newspaper reported, citing a White House official who was briefed by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, that the leaders of the countries discussed the so-called "interference" of Russia in the US elections for 40 minutes during a bilateral meeting in Hamburg.

"All the reasoning that you mentioned regarding the New York Times is nonsense. I repeat once again, there were only two people, and where did the New York Times knew how many minutes what was discussed, and who raised the voice, and whether anyone raised it at all — that is, all this simply eloquently testifies that there are great tale-tellers sitting there, who do all they can to prevent the Russophobic wave from subsiding," Peskov said on the air of the Rossiya 1 channel.

Trump 'knowledgeable' and 'skillful negotiator' says Putin's spokesman after 'win-win' G20 talks

Vladimir Putin's press secretary has dismissed claims of Donald Trump's incompetence as "delusional trash," and says the Russian president had a "pleasant" meeting with his US counterpart at the G20 summit in Hamburg.

"I can say with certainty that Putin was pleased after the meeting. And while I don't personally know Donald Trump, my impression was that he was satisfied as well," said Dmitry Peskov, who pointed out that he wasn't personally present at the two-hour talks, but was later fully briefed by the Russian leader.

Putin's spokesman also launched a broadside at Trump's portrayal in the "hysterical" mainstream media.

"Accusations that Trump is somewhat incompetent or that he is a novice, can be classified as delusional trash," Peskov told the Russia 1 news channel. "Trump is not some simpleton. He has expert knowledge, he is a very determined negotiator and skillful at using his knowledge to put his position across."

Iran: US, Russia-brokered ceasefire will be 'fruitful' if expanded to all of Syria

The ceasefire in southwest Syria agreed by the US, Russia and Jordan should be expanded to the entire country, according to Iran's Foreign Ministry. Meanwhile, Israel also expressed its support for a "genuine ceasefire."

"The [ceasefire] agreement can be fruitful if it is expanded to all of Syria and includes all the area that we discussed in Astana talks for de-escalating the tension," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Monday, as quoted by Tasnim news agency.

"Iran is seeking Syria's sovereignty and security so a ceasefire cannot be limited to a certain location...no agreement would be successful without taking the realities on the ground into account," Qasemi added.
