At Pentagon 9/11 Ceremony, Mattis affirmed military's support for Trump

Monday, the 16th anniversary of the terror attacks of Sept. 11, was marked solemnly by the Trump administration. The day began with a moment of silence at the White House, followed by the president, first lady, and staff traveling to the Pentagon to speak in front of the building and memorial to the plane that crashed into the building, killing 125 people. Trump was joined onstage by Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford.

The stage was positioned directly in front of the location where the plane was flown into the building, and the Pentagon unfurled an American flag over the crash site for the speeches.

Mattis began his remarks commemorating the nearly 3,000 lives lost that morning around the country. He then critiqued the "temporizing" of the fight against radical Islam, a veiled shot at the previous administration. Mattis, in his trademark fashion, was blunt, saying, "we Americans are not made of cotton candy. We are not seaweed drifting in the current; we are not intimidated by our enemies."

Mattis then paused, turned away from the podium, and looked directly at Trump and said:
"Mr. President, your military does not scare."

DeVos faces leftist backlash for proposal to protect due process rights of those accused of sexual assault

Betsy DeVos campus sexual assault
On September 7, 2017, the U.S. Department of Education broadcasted a speech given by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who asserted that current Title IX enforcement has failed far too many students across the sexual assault paradigm. Naturally, the "progressive" enemies of the Trump Administration were quick to express their disgust for DeVos and her perpetuation of "rape culture" all over social media within minutes of the broadcast, spewing hatred and intolerance until their fingers cramped.

(A landmark piece of legislation passed in the 1970s, Title IX basically forbids sex-based discrimination in education. Only recently, under the Obama Administration, has it also come to be increasingly associated with addressing sexual assault and harassment at college campuses.)

In her speech at George Mason University on Thursday, Secretary DeVos was quick to clear the air re: her position on rape and sexual assault and her approach to reworking sections of Title IX policy. "Acts of sexual misconduct are reprehensible, disgusting and unacceptable," she said. "Every survivor of sexual assault must be taken seriously. Every student accused of sexual assault must know that guilt is not pre-determined."

Yet the moment she elucidated the flaws in Title IX's protections for victims of sexual assault and those accused of committing sexual assault or harassment against another student, she was readily thrown to the wolves for "perpetuating rape culture" and "victim blaming." The anecdotes she provided, many Leftists asserted, shouldn't be used as a device to strip survivors of their Title IX protections, which is so off-base, I could write another piece just on this claim alone.

So let's get to the bottom of all this, then. Why is DeVos being attacked so vehemently by the Left? Why was #StopBetsy trending within minutes of the Department of Education's broadcast going live?

Report that Sessions wants lie detector test for NSC workers

Jeff Sessions
It has been no mystery that Attorney General Jeff Sessions is sick and tired of the leaks coming out of the National Security Council. He even went as far as, according to a report, threatening the idea of giving dozens lie detector tests.

It is not clear if such an effort, which was reported by Axios, is even possible. It does, however, give us an idea of the level of frustration coming from Sessions. The outlet reported Sunday that Sessions has told associates he wants to put the council staff through a one-time polygraph test

Interrogators would ask subjects what they know about leaked transcripts of President Trump's phone calls in January. During that month, the President had conversations with such leaders as Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Mexican leader Enrique Pena Nieto.

FBI insider: Awans' security clearances 'forged', granted access to Congressional intel despite falsified vetting

Comey and McCabe
James Comey and Andrew McCabe
Federal law enforcement agents working the Imran Awan and Hina Alvi fraud probe said the couple, along with other members of the family, were never properly vetted for Congressional security clearances.

Instead the clearances, which provided the Awans access to dozens of Congressional Democrats computer networks and IT systems, were likely approved absent each individual background file getting "fully investigated."

"I seriously doubt they could have passed a full background (check)," one FBI insider said. "These clearances were pushed through."

FBI insiders used the word "forged" to describe the process of what happened to the Awan files. Federal law enforcement sources with knowledge of the case divulged:
  • Either someone with clout in Congress, or higher, made sure the Awans received their security clearances despite glaring problems or the investigators pushed their files through for approval as part of a systemic breakdown.
  • Many assertions in the Awan-linked applications and files could not be verified by subsequent FBI vetting as part of the criminal case now pending against Imran and Hina. The files are problematic, FBI sources said.
  • The FBI did not conduct the background checks on members of the Awan family who were granted security clearances in Congress..
  • A former FBI section chief and security clearance expert said this type of malfeasance is commonplace in D.C.
  • The Inspector General found widespread fraud in firms conducting Congressional and government background checks, often cutting corners to approve files without vetting the applicants.

Trump Chief of Staff John Kelly blasts Congressman for calling him a liar

John Kelly
In response to President Trump's decision to end DACA last week, Democrat Congressman Luis Gutierrez went after Chief of Staff General John Kelly by calling him a liar and a "disgrace" to his uniform.

"General Kelly, when he was the head of Homeland Security, lied straight to the faces of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus about preventing the mass deportation of DREAMers. Now as Chief of Staff, this former general is executing the plan to take away their lifeline and taking steps to criminalize young people who live and work here legally," Gutierrez released in a statement. "General Kelly is a hypocrite who is a disgrace to the uniform he used to wear. He has no honor and should be drummed out of the White House along with the white supremacists and those enabling the President's actions by 'just following orders.'"

"They have gone crazy because we made a deal for S-400s," Erdoğan said Wednesday in a speech to the ruling AKP mayors in Ankara, as cited by 'Hurriyet'.

"What do you expect? Should we wait for you? We take care of ourselves in every security point. We are taking precautions and we will continue to do so," the Turkish leader said.

The South Korean Air Force has performed a live-fire military drill for the long-range Taurus missile, according to media citing Seoul's military. The 500-km-range air-to-surface missiles can hit precise targets in Pyongyang and all of North Korea.

The exercise was conducted in the air over Taean County, South Chungcheong Province in the country's west on Tuesday, Yonhap news agency reported, citing the country's military.

The F-15K multi-role fighter aircraft fired the Taurus KEPD 350 missile, which flew some 400 km and directly hit the target in the waters off the city of Gunsan in neighboring North Jeolla Province.

The Taurus missile has a range of 500 km and a 481kg warhead can attack targets in Pyongyang, "even if it is fired from as far as the central part of South Korea." The missile's range may expand to the whole of North Korea if it is launched from near Seoul.

US tanks, combat vehicles and other military equipment have arrived in the Polish city of Gdansk as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, a NATO exercise aimed at boosting the alliance's military presence in Eastern Europe.

The equipment arriving to the port city on Wednesday, from the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, has been filmed by Ruptly.

It was deployed as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, which is aimed at boosting NATO's military presence in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary.

The operation was launched in April 2014 following the reunification of the Crimean Republic with Russia following a referendum, which the US and other Western countries refer to as an "annexation."

United States junked by Juncker as preferred EU trading partner, no mention of China or Russia

The head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker failed to mention the United States in the list of countries Brussels wants to conclude trade agreements with in the coming years, during his speech to the European Parliament on Wednesday.

"With the help of the European Parliament, we have just secured a trade agreement with Canada that will provisionally apply as of next week. We have a political agreement with Japan on a new economic partnership. By the end of the year, we have a good chance of doing the same with Mexico and South American countries. And today, we are proposing to open trade negotiations with Australia and New Zealand," Juncker said.

The European Commission's term of office runs until October 31, 2019.

Before Donald Trump's election as the US President, Washington and Brussels were actively negotiating the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) trade agreement. Trump canceled the TPP agreement with Asian countries as he dislikes multilateral trade agreements. Talks on TTIP have stalled, too.
