Friendly reminder that Jeff Bezos is still trying to take over the universe

Jeff Bezos
Jeff Bezos, currently the wealthiest human being on planet Earth, did not purchase the Washington Post in 2013 because he was expecting newspapers to make a lucrative resurgence.

This self-evident fact doesn't receive enough attention.

I will say it again for emphasis: Jeff Bezos, who has used his business prowess to become the wealthiest person in the world, did not purchase the Washington Post in 2013 because he was expecting newspapers to make a profitable comeback. That did not happen.

The Nation editor: 'Registering RT as foreign agent is threat to press freedom'

Russia Today's Moscow studio
© Iliya Pitalev / Sputnik via APRussia Today's Moscow studio
The decision by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) to compel the Russian-state media outlet RT (an English-language cable news network) to register as a "foreign agent" is intended to not only stigmatize its reporting as foreign propaganda but also tar anyone who appears on its programs as Russian dupes.

RT will register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) of 1938, the aim of which, according to the nonpartisan transparency watchdog Sunlight Foundation, was "To make it easier for federal counterespionage authorities to keep tabs on U.S.-based individuals and other groups helping to drum up support for the Nazi movement and keep America neutral in the war." Amendments added in 1966 shifted its focus to political activities, such as lobbying.

But whatever the legal basis for requiring RT to register as a foreign agent, the Justice Department's decision is clearly in response to intense domestic political and media pressure. Many of the assumptions behind that pressure are dubious or based on myths.

It is the case that RT is not the first media outlet to have been compelled to register: China Daily, a Chinese-state funded news outlet; NHK Cosmomedia, a Japanese TV news operation; and KBS America, a South Korean company, are also currently registered under FARA.

'Weinstein level stuff': Former secret service agent had to protect women from Joe Biden

Joe Biden pervert
A former Secret Service agent assigned to the Vice President Joe Biden residence claims that the Service often had to protect female agents from him.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the agent asserted that, "We had to cancel the VP Christmas get together at the Vice President's house because Biden would grope all of our wives and girlfriend's asses." The annual party was for agents and Navy personnel who were tasked with protecting the Biden family.

"He would mess with every single woman or teen. It was horrible," the agent said.

According to the source, a Secret Service agent once got suspended for a week in 2009 for shoving Biden after he cupped his girlfriend's breast while the couple was taking a photo with him. The situation got so heated, the source told Cassandra Fairbanks, that others had to step in to prevent the agent from hitting the then-Vice President.

In the wake of new reports about former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. having inappropriate contact with women and children, as well as a resurgence of videos and images of his conduct, Nicole Perlroth of The New York Times is calling on Twitter to "handle," or censor, the content.

Perlroth, a cyber security reporter, tweeted the plea to her nearly 24,000 followers on Tuesday - to a less-than-warm reception. The tweet was retweeted only 16 times, while it received nearly 700 comments - most of which condemned her desire for censorship.

ACTUAL electoral subversion: Putin suggests anti-Russia doping scandals being orchestrated by US to sow social conflict before 2018 election

putin russian olympics
The Russian police have formally demanded the extradition from the US of Gregory Rodchenkov, a former director of the anti-doping centre.

Signs are emerging that there may be the influence of western intelligence involvement in his crimes. We aren't talking about James Bond style theatrics, but the all too real subtle influence and subterfuge reminiscent of the KGB's "active measures" employed during the First Cold War.

In a remarkable statement on camera a few days ago, Putin said he believes the Olympic doping scandals are being orchestrated by the CIA.

Specifically, he believes western corporate interests are lining up with governments to sow social conflict in Russia during the election season.

Comment: This whole 'Russian state doping scandal' smelled like cultural war to us from the get-go, the banning of a 'performance-enhancing substance' (really, a medicinal supplement) Western doping agencies knew was a supplement that mostly Russians took.

Cultural warfare: US attempt to ban Russia from Olympics for 'cheating' is rank hypocrisy

Saudi Arabia seeks to kill the petrodollar with the Crown Prince's Vision 2030, says economist

The United States and Saudi Arabia are so interdependent that a rift would mean disaster for the petrodollar system and the greenback's reserve currency status, warns economist Brandon Smith. He is sure Riyadh is planning to ditch the dollar.

"I believe the next phase of the global economic reset will begin in part with the breaking of petrodollar dominance. An important element of my analysis on the strategic shift away from the petrodollar has been the symbiosis between the US and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has been the single most important key to the dollar remaining as the petrocurrency from the very beginning," Smith wrote in an article for his website Alt-market.com.

Comment: Turkish energy analyst Dr. Volkan Ozdemir offered up a similar interpretation in an interview with Sputnik:
"For the last 44-45 years, the petrodollar system has been ruling the world, which means that the international oil trade had been mostly paid for in US dollars. It stems from the Middle Eastern crises of the 1970s, when Saudi Arabia bound itself to selling oil only in US dollars. Given that Saudi oil has played the major role in the US dollar becoming the world's reserve currency, the US turned into the guarantor of the security of Saudi Arabia. Being the world's reserve currency, the US dollar has remained the foundation of the US' global hegemony," the expert explained.

In the past few years however, especially during the last term of Barack Obama, this status quo began to change due to the rapprochement between the US and Iran, he further noted. After the Arab Spring, the Saudis started feeling a threat to the country's security and doubts emerged over whether the US will cease being its protector and turn instead to Iran.

These very doubts have highlighted the need for the royal family to opt for other guarantors of its security besides the US, thus, for the first time in 3-4 years there is a split within the family with regards to the oil trade.

These differences within the country's royalty, however, should be viewed alongside certain other external factors, the energy analyst noted.

"First, after becoming self-sufficient in natural gas supplies, the US is becoming self-reliant in oil, which means it has less demand for Saudi energy resources. In other words, it has yielded to China as the major consumer of Saudi oil," Dr Ozdemir explained.

However China, he further elaborated, is moving towards its 2020 goal, which is the deadline to setup its own indexes for oil and natural gas trading at the Shanghai International Energy Exchange. This implies that China is targeting abandoning the petrodollar and at switching to the petro-yuan backed by gold or other precious metals.

According to the expert, China and Saudi Arabia have recently been negotiating the possibility of oil trading in yuan, which has received the backing of many high-ranking Saudis. This has coincided with the election of Donald Trump, who, unlike Barack Obama, announced his adherence towards a conservative American foreign policy.

Hence, cooperation with Saudi Arabia and Israel against Iran topped the agenda, Dr Ozdemir pointed out.

"Therefore, as I see it, there is an ongoing process in Saudi Arabia of cleaning out the elements who are against the petrodollar system," he explained.

Dr Ozdemir, however, said that the petrodollar system has little chance of survival in the long-term.

"Although with the election of Trump, the supporters of this system have won in the short-term, it has no chance for success in the long-term. We should expect new moves from other large oil suppliers into China, namely Russia and Iran. If we review who the major oil importers to this country are, it is Russia in the first place, then Iran and only then Saudi Arabia. For the petrodollar system to keep working, Iran will be chosen as a target," the expert suggested.

In support of his theory, he said that Donald Trump has already canceled some of the US' agreements with Tehran and will do his utmost to preserve the US hegemony. However he doubted that these efforts have any chance of success in the medium-term. He suggested that the US might succeed in deterring Iran through Saudi Arabia but doubted that Washington will be able to contain it through Yemen, and this could ultimately change the situation.

Dr Ozdemir noted that the fact that the International Monetary Fund has recognized the yuan as an official reserve currency, the new system which China is introducing in its international payments, the development of bank clearing only confirm that Russia and China are strengthening their capabilities and will soon switch to their national currencies for all payments.

The expert also noted that recent developments in the Asian-Pacific region signal that this region is coming to the forefront - with China being in the very center of affairs. This might well signify the last stage of the US hegemony and petrodollar system, he concluded.

Jeff Sessions on Tuesday acknowledged a former aide to Donald's Trump presidential campaign informed him during the 2016 election about ties to Russian officials, appearing to contradict his own testimony to members of Congress during his confirmation hearing to become attorney general earlier this year.

Testifying before the House judiciary committee, Sessions said he only recently recalled a meeting during the 2016 presidential election in which George Papadopoulos, a foreign policy adviser to Donald Trump's campaign, disclosed his contacts with Russians.

The attorney general also said he did not remember talking to Carter Page, a former foreign policy adviser to Trump who has said he told Sessions about a planned trip to Moscow.

Saudi Arabia is at risk of becoming a major destabilising influence in the Arab world, German intelligence has warned.

It is unusual for the BND spy agency to publicly release such a blunt assessment on a country that is considered an ally of the West. Germany has long-standing political and economic ties with Saudi Arabia

Internal power struggles and the desire to emerge as the leading Arab power threaten to make the key Western ally a source of instability, according to the BND intelligence service.

"The current cautious diplomatic stance of senior members of the Saudi royal family will be replaced by an impulsive intervention policy," a BND memo widely distributed to the German press reads.

The memo focuses particularly on the role of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the 30-year-old son of King Salman who was recently appointed deputy crown prince and defence minister.

Congresswoman: Victims of congressional sexual harassment must sign NDA and cannot be represented by counsel

Rep. Jackie Speier
As a host of sexual assault allegations target major actors, producers and directors in Hollywood, several politicians are also being called out, and one congresswoman has claimed that the U.S. House of Representatives alone has spent $15 million in taxpayer funds to settle sexual misconduct lawsuits in the last decade.

The claim was made by Rep. Jackie Speier, a Democrat from California, during an interview on Meet the Press Daily with MSNBC's Chuck Todd. When asked about the process sexual assault victims currently have to go through, Speier noted that they have to start by promising to stay silent.

"We really need to reform the entire Office of Compliance process," Speier said. "Right now it takes about 90 days for you to file a complaint, and before actually going through the mediation, you have to sign a non-disclosure agreement and then you are not represented by counsel, but the harasser is represented by the House of Representatives general counsel."

In many cases, as was seen with Harvey Weinstein, when ultra-rich and powerful individuals are accused of sexual assault, they respond by paying large sums of money to their victims, in exchange for an iron-clad, non-disclosure agreement.

Ukrainian politician admits to supporting terrorists in Russian Caucasus

Igor Mosiychuk
Igor Mosiychuk
The People's Deputy of Ukraine, Igor Mosiychuk, stated that "Ukrainians must transfer the war to the territory of Russia" on his social media.

"Our goal is to raise the armed anti-Russian uprising in Ichkeria and other regions of the Caucasus occupied by Muscovy, than to open a second front in the war with the Russian Federation. The Kremlin will not be able to fight on two fronts and this will greatly accelerate our Ukrainian victory in the national liberation war in the east.

It is after the restoration of the independence of Ichkeria and the liberation of the whole Caucasus from the Moscow occupation, that Kremlin imperialism dies, which is now waging war against Ukraine. We Ukrainians, for the sake of victory, for the sake of our children's future, are obliged to transfer the war to the territory of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation." - wrote Mosiychuk.
