California Republicans enraged over Google designation of 'Nazism' - here's what they did

© Now The End BeginsSearch engine bias: Nazism designation
California Republicans are furious and demanding an apology from Google over a designation of "Nazism" that was somehow added to their description.

Here's what happened

People began to notice that Google was labeling Republicans as having an ideology of "Nazism" on the search result for the California Republican Party.

The offensive listing accompanied other, more fitting, ideologies that Republicans would accept, such as "Conservatism," "Market liberalism," "Fiscal conservatism," and "Green conservatism."

'Disturbing trend to slander conservatives.'
"It is disgraceful that the world's largest search engine has labeled millions of California Republicans as Nazis," said Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). "This is just the latest incident in a disturbing trend to slander conservatives. These damaging actions must be held to account," he added. "The bias has to stop."

Comment: Was it a prank or a mistake? Google has a nasty bias of targeting all things conservative. This particular 'vandalism' is attributed to Wikipedia. See also:

No agreement on Southern Syrian de-escalation zone until US leaves al-Tanf base

US troops should leave Syria, and particularly the al-Tanf area in the country's southeast, before any talks about the future of the southern regions held by the militants could take place, the Syrian Foreign Minister has said.

"Do not believe any statements on an agreement about the south of Syria unless the US forces withdraw from al-Tanf area," Syria's Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said at a press conference, referring to the Southern de-escalation zone covering parts of the Deraa and Quneitra regions.

The areas are currently held by the units of the so-called Free Syrian Army backed by the US. The southern de-escalation zone borders Jordan and is located not far from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. According to some reports, the Syrian government is expected to focus on these territories after it fully liberated the Damascus region from terrorists and various militant groups earlier this year.

Former spy chief: Israel planned Iran attack to start a war

Tamir Pardo
Tamir Pardo, former head of Mossad
Israel planned to bomb Iran and initiate an all-out conflict in the Middle East, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's former head of intelligence, who said he believed the move may have been illegal.

Tamir Pardo, who served as head of Israeli spy agency Mossad from 2011 to 2016, told local investigative program Uvda in an interview set to air Thursday that Netanyahu instructed his military command in 2011 to prepare for a strike against longtime foe Iran, which Israel has accused of developing nuclear weapons and supporting militant groups abroad. Pardo said then-Israeli chief of staff Benny Gantz informed the prime minister that the armed forces would be ready within 15 days.

"It's not something that you're permitted to do just for practice," Pardo said of Netanyahu's request, according to the Times of Israel. "If someone does that then it has two [possible] purposes: One purpose is that he really means [to attack] and the other option is that he is sending a signal, that someone out there should know," he added, suggesting it may have been a message to the U.S.
"In matters like these you have to believe people, they are the pilots," Pardo said in reference to Netanyahu and his administration. "So when he tells you, 'Begin a countdown process,' you understand that he isn't playing games with you. These things have tremendous implications."

More saber rattling: Pentagon will 'compete vigorously' with Beijing in South China Sea - Mattis

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has claimed that since Beijing's South China Sea policy contradicts Washington's strategy of "openness," the US will have to "compete vigorously" wherever cooperation is impossible.

"The US will continue to pursue a constructive, results-oriented relationship with China, cooperating when possible and competing vigorously where we must...," Mattis stated, speaking at the annual Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.

"China's policy in the South China Sea stands in stark contrast to the openness our strategy promises, it calls into question China's broader goals," the US Defense Secretary added.

UK's Labour Party: Trump's tariffs are 'based on a lie'

jeremy corbyn
Trump is one by one antagonizing his allies across the board

With tariff exemptions having run out, meaning that many of America's trading partners are to face tariffs on their aluminum and steel, as of today, and many, including Canada, France, Germany, and others, having already condemned the tariffs and threatened countermeasures, as well as WTO disputes, Britain is also a part of that list. Responses range from calling Trump's logic 'based on a lie' to 'stupid'.

The BBC reports:

Comment: More "art of the deal", or alienating allies?

Baghdad denies reports that the Pentagon is setting up base at Iraq-Syria border

An Iraqi general has rejected reports that a US military base is being built on Mount Sinjar. A local official had earlier claimed that the Pentagon would use it to fight Islamic State terrorists and Iran-backed Shia militias.

Multiple reports of the Pentagon setting up a base on Sinjar Mountain are fake, the commander of military operations in Iraq's Nineveh province told the media on Sunday.

"The US advisers are stationed in Mosul, Qayyarah and in other districts of Nineveh, but they are deployed there on an everyday basis," Major General Najim al-Jubouri explained, while speaking to London-based paper Ashraq al-Awsat.

The statement was made after reports of a column of 15 US armored vehicles arriving at Sinjar began surfacing in Kurdish and Turkish media. On Friday, Erbil-based outlet Kurdistan 24 published photos of what it said was a US army convoy. The images show several pieces of American-made hardware driving along an outpost.

Rudy Giuliani: Trump 'probably' has the power to pardon himself while setting himself up for impeachment

Rudy Giuliani has caused quite a stir on social media, after saying that US President Donald Trump would "probably" be able to pardon himself. He was answering a question related to Robert Mueller's 'Russiagate' probe.

The president's personal attorney made the remarks on ABC's The Week program on Sunday. Asked whether Trump has the power to pardon himself, Giuliani claimed the president "probably does," adding that the constitution "doesn't say he can't." The former New York mayor later conceded that such a course of action would lead to "impeachment."

"It would be an open question," Giuliani told the show's host, George Stephanopoulos. "I think it would probably get answered by, gosh, that's what the constitution says."

Giuliani also claimed that Trump had the authority to end the investigation into him in comments that come hot on the heels of the publication of a 20-page document sent to Mueller from Trump's legal team earlier this year. The special counsel's investigation centers on accusations of collusion between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.

Pragmatism: EU Chief Juncker calls for an end to 'Russia-bashing'

Putin Junker
With America's increasing unreliability and erratic behaviour both as it relates to international accords and relationships with its allies and partners, especially as regards trade, some within the EU have been looking to better relations with Russia, often considered a villain by the West.

With the advent of the Trump administration, Washington has withdrawn from multiple multilateral agreements, conducted extremely controversial maneuvers and not only threatened but actually applied trade sanctions and tariffs against its partners and allies.

The withdrawal from the Iran nuclear accord threatened secondary sanctions on anyone who maintained their commitment to the international accord by keeping up their end in maintaining commercial ties with Iran, also making a diplomatic splash as it is another chipping away at multilateralism and presents very real threats from nations who are considered allies and trade partners.

Comment: When the head of the most bureaucratic and 'establishment' organizations in the Western world makes these kinds of statements, you know that the tide has turned significantly against US hegemony - and towards those nations that actually offer some semblance of security and stability!

Russia's next moves on the world stage: It all depends upon your values

putin
This has been an interesting week for Russia. First, and contrary to my own expectations, Iulia Skripal has been allowed to make a recorded statement on video where she is seen writing a statement in English and Russian. This falls far short of even the basic British obligations to allow consular access to both Skripals, but it is a sign that the Brits are finally starting to feel the pressure. This is just a small first step, but thank God for small things. Now let's just hope that the pressure to free both Skripals will not abate.

Second, the St Petersburg Economic Forum has started with what promises to be a big success: 14,000 participants, including many top western business and even representatives of the British oligarchy (to the great despair of The Times). Now that the "economic block" of the Russian government is firmly in the hands of the Atlantic Integrationists and even Alexei Kudrin has declared that the impact of the economic sanctions is only 0.5% of the Russian GDP, and against the background of US arrogance gone berserk (see Pompeo's 12 point ultimatum to Iran) thereby deeply frightening many European investors, Russia appears to be an island of comparative stability and predictability. Turns out, there are billions of dollars to be made in Russia, who would have thought?

Third, for all the saber-rattling heard over the past years from NATO, a former Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Breedlove, has gone on record that NATO is in no shape to fight Russia. The Baltic statelets and the Swedes can continue to prepare for a Russian invasion of the want, but this nonsense is slowly losing its traction with EU politicians.

Russia could double gold extraction becoming world's second biggest producer

Major Russian gold mining companies are planning to almost double production. The increase could make Russia the world's second largest producer of the precious metal.

The country is currently third in the global rating of gold miners after Australia and China. However, that could change in less than a decade, according to Mikhail Leskov, deputy CEO at the Moscow-based Institute of Geotechnology, as quoted by Vedomosti.

In 2017, Russia extracted 8.8 million ounces, accounting for 8.3 percent of total global production, according to data by the UK consultancy Metals Focus, as quoted by the media. The newly discovered gold deposits will reportedly allow miners to increase extraction by half in seven years. By 2030, extraction is expected to grow by nearly eight million ounces.
