Bad sign: Trump directs congressional Republicans to block bipartisan bill aimed at shielding journalists from government surveillance

In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared a PBS News segment outlining the bipartisan bill's intent and its current status in Congress. "REPUBLICANS MUST KILL THIS BILL!" Trump wrote.

The Protect Reporters from Exploitative State Spying (PRESS) Act, which passed the House earlier in 2024 with bipartisan backing, seeks to establish the first federal press shield law in the United States. Democratic Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin and Republican California Rep. Kevin Kiley, who co-sponsored the bill, hailed its passage in January.
"House passage of the PRESS Act in a unanimous vote moves America closer to establishing our first federal press shield law ever. The PRESS Act will greatly strengthen the meaning of the constitutional promise of press freedom," Raskin said. "This awesome bipartisan vote at a time of party polarization underscores the binding power and universal appeal of freedom of the press as a leading constitutional principle. This is a significant victory for the people and our First Amendment values.

Comment: This move flies in the face of Musk's commitment to free speech, along with previous statements from Trump. How will he square this call with Musk? Is it really what Trump thinks, or another bone thrown to the Deep State?

Biden committing 'unconstitutional аct of war' - US lawmaker

President Joe Biden has violated the US Constitution and ought to be impeached for permitting Ukraine to fire American-supplied long-range missiles into Russia, Congressman Thomas Massie has said.

Multiple US outlets reported over the weekend that Biden had lifted the restrictions on Kiev's use of US-supplied rockets. While the White House has neither confirmed nor denied the news officially, a volley of missiles was fired at Russia's Bryansk Region early on Tuesday.

"By authorizing long range missiles to strike inside Russia, Biden is committing an unconstitutional Act of War that endangers the lives of all US citizens," Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

"This is an impeachable offense, but the reality is he's an emasculated puppet of a deep state," he added.

According to anonymous officials who spoke to the media, the US permission would "mostly" apply to the Kursk Region of Russia, which Ukraine invaded in August. The decision was reportedly triggered by the Ukrainian claim that 10,000 North Korean soldiers have been deployed to Kursk to aid the Russian troops.

Outgoing US President Joe Biden has decided to send anti-personnel landmines to Ukraine, multiple news outlets reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed American officials.

The White House is said to believe that the weapons will help Kiev "blunt" the advancement of Russian forces. The move comes days after Biden reportedly authorized the use of long-range ATACMS missiles deep inside Russian territory, a policy shift that his administration has not officially confirmed.

According to the Washington Post, which was the first to report the latest development, the weapons will only be used within what the US considers Ukrainian territory and are of "nonpersistent" design, meaning they become inactive within weeks of deployment to mitigate long-term hazards.

The use of anti-personnel landmines is a matter of controversy. The Ottawa Treaty bans this type of weapon, though the US and Russia are not among the 164 nations which have ratified it. Ukraine did so in 2005, and has been accused by the UN of breaching its obligations.

How it begins: The Deep State wants to terminate the Constitution

Constitution

"That was when they suspended the Constitution. They said it would be temporary."

— Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale
This is how it begins.

This is how it always begins, justified in the name of national security.

Mass roundups. Raids. Indefinite detentions in concentration camps. Martial law. The erosion of habeas corpus protections. The suspension of the Constitution, at least for select segments of the population. A hierarchy of rights, contingent on whether you belong to a favored political class.

This is what you can expect in the not-so-distant future.

Comment: In theory, Trump was elected to roll back this future. It is probably impossible to nullify it completely, but it seems by the collection of people he has gathered, there will be a good faith attempt to pull back on the worst of the current situation. We can only see what happens after (if?) he makes it into office.

Javier Milei's 'shock therapy' is working

Last week, Argentina President Javier Milei dissolved the Administración Federal de Ingresos Públicos (AFIP), the nation's largest tax bureau. Argentina's presidential spokesperson Manual Adorni announced that a new agency will replace the AFIP, eliminating nearly 3,100 public employees and saving Argentine taxpayers 6.4 billion Argentine pesos (roughly $6.5 million). While this measure will reduce bureaucratic inefficiencies, it's largely symbolic and part of Milei's broader mission to credibly cut government spending and liberalize Argentina's institutions.

Overhauling the nation's largest tax agency is particularly significant because it shifts attention away from government bureaucrats and celebrates the importance of private entrepreneurs. As Adorni explains in his statement:
"What belongs to each Argentine is theirs and no one else's. No state bureaucrat should be delegated the power to tell an Argentine what to do with his or her property."
After decades of socialist policies, Argentina is currently undergoing the most severe economic adjustment since the 2001 currency crisis, when the nation abandoned its fixed exchange rate, sinking the peso's value and Argentines' savings with it.

French establishment in panic to stop rise of conservative voters: Prison for Le Pen?

EU elites and globalists with extensive political influence have been on the war-path the past several years as it has become increasingly evident that the European populace is shifting more conservative with each new election. In Germany, leftist officials are attempting an outright ban of the conservative AFD Party, primarily because they stand against mass immigration (a position which progressives claim is "xenophobic").

The AFD is currently the second most popular political party in Germany and is expected to gain substantial influence in the 2025 federal elections, unless their candidates are blocked from participation.

Comment: Le Pen has been a thorn in the side of the French old guard for years. This is just the latest attempt to neutralize her growing influence:

Ruling the waves no more - Money problems force UK military to scrap warships and aircraft

The British military will scrap several warships and dozens of helicopters and drones as it continues to struggle to plug a multi-billion pound hole in its budget, Defense Secretary John Healey has announced.

In a statement to Parliament on Wednesday, Healey admitted that "difficult decisions are required" from the Labour government to keep the country safe as it faces "increasing global threats," including those stemming from the Ukraine and Middle East conflicts.

Acknowledging "serious financial pressures in the defense budget," Healey said that the UK will now retire a total of five warships, including the amphibious assault ships HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark, large auxiliary ships RFA Wave Knight and RFA Wave Ruler, which can provide logistical support to the rest of the Navy, and the frigate HMS Northumberland.

Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a televised address from the Kremlin on Thursday evening

President Vladimir Putin has promised a decisive response to any aggression, criticizing the West for escalating tensions, and reiterated Moscow's willingness to engage in peace talks to resolve the Ukraine conflict.

Here's a full text of Putin's address, as provided by the Kremlin.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: I would like to inform the military personnel of the Russian Federation Armed Forces, citizens of our country, our friends across the globe, and those who persist in the illusion that a strategic defeat can be inflicted upon Russia, about the events taking place today in the zone of the special military operation, specifically following the attacks by Western long-range weapons against our territory.

Comment:
The speech with subtitles is available here.
We believe that the United States made a mistake by unilaterally destroying the INF Treaty in 2019 under far-fetched pretext.
That was during the Trump's first presidency. Will Trump have to own up to some of the other decisions made during that time, such as these: See also:

Zelensky again rules out holding election

Ukraine's constitution and laws do not allow for national votes during wartime, the country's leader has reiterated.

Vladimir Zelensky has stated that Ukraine must first achieve a just peace before its citizens can go to the polls. The Ukrainian leader's presidential term expired in March 2024, but he cancelled elections due to martial law, which he'd imposed in 2022.

Zelensky addressed the issue while presenting his so-called Internal Resilience Plan in the country's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, on Tuesday:
"We all know that the Constitution of Ukraine and the law do not permit elections during wartime, and no one in the world has demanded and does demand this from Ukraine. However, there are some people in Ukraine who may be so 'hungry' for [elections] that they want to fight within our state more than for our state. They seek political disputes in the trenches, like in film studios. This is detrimental to Ukraine.

"First, Ukraine needs a just peace, and then Ukrainians will hold fair elections. We must prioritize the common interest over any personal desires."

The US missile defense base in Redzikowo increases the overall level of nuclear danger, according to Russia's Foreign Ministry

Russia has added the recently opened US missile defense base in Poland to its list of possible priority strike targets due to its "obvious potential" to weaken Moscow's deterrent forces, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.

During a weekly briefing on Thursday, Zakharova was asked to comment on the official opening of the US-NATO anti-missile base in the Polish village of Redzikowo last week and the statements by Warsaw that this facility is directly aimed against Russia.
