G20 knocks out G7 agendas

This G20 in Rio was all about the power of the Global South, with poverty eradication and genuine economic progress trumping the old G7 agendas of war, profit, and arm-twisting.

The G20 summit in Rio earlier this week offered the quite intriguing spectacle of a deeply divided world, geopolitically and geoeconomically, trying to put on a brave 'holiday in the sun' face.

There was plenty of fluff to amuse attentive audiences. French President Emmanuel Macron surrounded by a beefy security detail strolling on Copacabana beach near midnight; European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen barefoot in the sand, stunned by the lapping waves; the White House lodger, US President Joe Biden - with his expiry date in less than two months - missing the G20 family pic because he was talking to a palm tree.

Mike Waltz has outlined plans to push for talks from day one of the new presidency

US President-elect Donald Trump's pick for national security adviser, Mike Waltz, has laid out the incoming administration's strategy for addressing the Ukraine conflict. According to Waltz, the Trump team will begin working on negotiations from the very first day of its term, which begins on January 20.

Speaking on Fox News on Sunday, Waltz stated that a key priority will be organizing talks between Russia and Ukraine, with the aim of bringing both sides together to negotiate a ceasefire or peace agreement.
"We need to discuss who is at this table, whether it will be an agreement, a truce, how to put both sides at the negotiating table, and then what is the scope of the deal."
Waltz, a congressman from Florida, also highlighted the importance of involving America's European allies in the process. "All our allies and partners need to bear this burden," he stated, stressing that resolving the conflict will require international cooperation.

A mentally unfit Joe Biden has crossed the line between proxy and direct war with Russia

What will be the consequences be of the American president's approval of long-range missile strikes?

The discussions in the West about authorizing long-range missile strikes on Russia are profoundly dishonest and misleading. The political-media elites present deeply flawed arguments to support the conclusion that attacking Russia with these weapons doesn't cross the line between proxy war and direct war.

NATO may be successful in deluding itself, yet for Moscow there is no doubt that this is an act of war.

"Ukraine has the right to defend itself"

The argument that Ukraine has the right to defend itself as a justification for NATO to authorize long-range strikes into Russia is very manipulative. The public is pulled in with a very reasonable premise, based on the universal acceptance of the right to self-defense.

Comment: Without the US, any offensive against Russia would be unthinkable. Without US support for Ukraine, the war would conclude.

Russia's hypersonic response to the US government giving 'Ukraine' the green-light to launch long-range missiles into Russia is a stark warning. Will the West take heed? While runaway 'hot war' resulting in 'mutually assured destruction' remains an unlikely outcome, the West's dear leaders are so supremely confident that Russia is bluffing, it looks like Russia is going to have to hit at least a few American and/or European military targets to really drive the message home: the Age of Hegemony is over.

Also on this NewsReal, utter chaos in the UK as bomb threats, protests, terror alerts and public outrage at the Starmer government highlight the volatility of Western 'democracies', Trump's new 'MAGA' administration takes shape, and wild weather continues surprising forecasters whose models can no longer predict rainfall volumes.

Ex-CDC chief: Covid-19 was a 'bioweapon' engineered by the US

Despite various debunkings, the Western establishment is still policing Covid-19 narratives nearly five years later - even when the latest bombshell suggests a US national security coverup.

A former head of the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is being accused of spreading fake news for making statements that fall outside the acceptable Covid-related dogma that the Western establishment deems etched into history as indisputable fact.

Dr. Robert Redfield, the virologist who served as CDC director during President Donald Trump's first term, said on a recent podcast that the Covid virus was "intentionally engineered as part of a biodefense program," and that "the US role was substantial," citing research funded by the "National Institutes of Health, the State Department, USAID, and the Defense Department."

France greenlights Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russia

Scalp missile
A SCALP-EG/Storm Shadow cruise missile is displayed at the Paris Air Show in Paris, France, June 2023
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has said that Ukraine may use French missiles to attack targets in internationally-recognized Russian territory, without confirming whether such strikes have already taken place.

In an interview due to be broadcast by British state broadcaster the BBC on Sunday, Barrot said that Paris does "not set and express red lines" on its support for Kiev, and that long-range strikes on Russian soil may be carried out by Ukraine "in the logics of self-defense."

Comment: Logic of self-defense would then also apply to Russia, which has made it clear that it views strikes by long range Western missiles as direct acts of war by NATO and it will therefore allow it to target NATO facilities in any country of the alliance.

France has provided Ukraine with an unknown number of SCALP-EG cruise missiles, which Kiev has already been using to attack targets in Crimea and the four former Ukrainian regions that joined the Russian Federation in 2022. The SCALP-EG, known as the Storm Shadow in the UK, is an air-launched British-French cruise missile with a maximum range of 550km (390 miles).

Barrot's comments came a day after the Ukrainian military confirmed that Storm Shadow missiles were used for the first time in an attack on Russia's Kursk Region, where Ukrainian troops launched a cross-border invasion in August. Russian air defenses shot down two of the British missiles, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Comment: France does not appear to have the sharpest knives in the kitchen drawer, to run the country. Their inability to take a hint which Russia gave them by demonstrating a new missile, does not bode well for France. Hopefully more reasonable people within the halls of power will pull back the level of suicidal actions.

Even if Foreign minister today said yes, it doesn't mean that it will still be a yes tomorrow as decisions change as quickly as the direction of the wind. Yes but no - France clarifies stance on Ukrainian long-range strikes

Merkel memoir reveals fears about Ukraine joining NATO

The ex-German chancellor opposed Kiev's application in 2008 due to concerns about Russia and a lack of popular support in the country

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has defended her decision to block Ukraine's path to NATO membership during her tenure, warning that she knew inviting Kiev into the US-led bloc would provoke Russia and endanger European security.

In excerpts from her book 'Freedom: Memories 1954-2021' published by Die Zeit on Thursday, Merkel writes about the pivotal 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest, where Ukraine and Georgia's applications for Membership Action Plans (MAPs) were debated.

Merkel, then in her second term as Germany's chancellor, opposed the move, arguing that it would antagonize Moscow without providing adequate security guarantees for the would-be applicants.

Merkel admits she didn't believe in Kiev's military ambitions
The former chancellor did not want to supply German weapons for a Ukrainian military effort she believed was futile

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has admitted she was skeptical about the ability of the post-coup government in Kiev to recapture the rebellious Donbass republics by force during her time in office.

Merkel served as German chancellor from 2005 to 2021 and has recently published her memoirs. In an interview with Der Spiegel released on Friday, she was asked why she opposed weapons deliveries to Ukraine in 2014.

There was significant debate in Kiev regarding a potential military push to root out resistance in eastern Ukraine, the former chancellor said.
I was of the opinion that this would have no chance of success.
"It was a dilemma. In the end, we didn't supply any weapons from Germany, but we supported all of NATO's efforts," she said, claiming that Berlin "could not leave the Ukrainians unprotected."

[...]

Merkel was one of the guarantors of the 2014-15 Minsk agreements, which aimed to reintegrate Donbass into Ukraine with greater autonomy. However, she admitted in 2022 that the Minsk deal was merely "an attempt to give Ukraine time" and bolster Kiev against Moscow.

Merkel blasts Ukraine and Poland over Russian gas
Other countries are still benefiting from energy trade with Moscow, the former German chancellor has said

[...]

In an interview with Der Spiegel magazine published on Friday, Merkel was asked why she neither armed Ukraine nor strengthened Germany's defensive capabilities, nor weaned her country off Russian gas during her tenure.

"Many important aspects are being forgotten today: for example, Ukraine and Poland were not fundamentally opposed to our import of Russian gas as long as it passed through their territory and they received transit fees for it," she said.

Merkel defended her decision not to halt imports via the Nord Stream pipelines, arguing that it would have made little difference if Berlin had stopped buying gas from Moscow in 2014.

"It would have been the same back then if we had broken off all economic ties," she said, pointing to "other countries" that continue to buy Russian gas to this day.

"I saw it as one of my tasks to secure cheap gas for the German economy. We can now see the consequences of high energy prices for our country," she added.

The German economy has been in a recession since 2023, contracting by 0.3% this year and projected to shrink further by 0.1% in 2024, according to the European Commission's economic forecast released last week. Rising costs and weak economic performance have led to soaring rates of corporate bankruptcy in the country, Der Spiegel reported earlier this week.

[...]

The first two underwater Nord Stream pipelines were launched in 2012 and supplied around 16% of the EU's natural gas needs by 2018, meeting half of Germany's annual demand by 2021. Two additional pipelines were built but never became operational, as Berlin halted certification of Nord Stream 2 amid pressure from the US shortly before Russia's military operation in Ukraine. Three of the four pipelines were sabotaged in September 2022 in a series of mysterious explosions.

The EU still receives approximately 5% of its gas imports from Russia via Ukraine's gas transit network, according to Brussels-based economic think tank Bruegel. The transit agreement between Moscow and Kiev is set to expire on December 31.
3) As if Merkel's 'pointing to "other countries" that continue to buy Russian gas to this day.' had been heard, the US has now come to the rescue:

New restrictions against Gazprombank will hurt countries in Central Europe, Hungary's foreign minister has said

Washington's decision to blacklist Russia's Gazprombank, a key conduit for gas purchases from Russia, is aimed at undermining energy security in the Central European region, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has claimed.

Earlier this week, the US Treasury Department imposed blocking sanctions on more than 50 Russian financial institutions, including Gazprombank, linked to the eponymous Russian gas giant, and six of its international subsidiaries.

4) Below are a few other headlines about Germany with comments relating both to the most recent events, but also the time when Merkel was Chancellor: 5) In the last article one finds:
The retired General details a secret pact he alleges was signed in 1949 between Germany and the US, and which will be in force for another 90 years.

Komossa says the secret agreement means that all political parties in Germany are supervised by a special Washington-based body, that the country's army takes part in all NATO missions at first demand and that all German gold reserves are stored in New York.

For some though, the content of the book came as nothing surprising.

"Remember Prime Minister Putin's proposal to Germany, to share with Russia natural gas trading throughout Europe? It was made a couple of years ago. And the German leadership answered exactly the same way as the German leadership did in 1952 - with silence. But what is the reason for Germany not to participate in such a lucrative business as trading natural gas throughout Europe? Of course, somebody had to advise them not to rush into it immediately," says Aleksandr Fomenko, a political analyst from Moscow.
Well, Merkel went ahead with the gas line anyway only to witness its destruction after she had left.

Leaked files expose high-level UK military plot to destroy investigative site The Grayzone

In a bid to "keep Ukraine fighting," a covert cell of British military strategists and spooks plotted to destroy "media outriders" that threatened their narrative. Among their top targets was The Grayzone.

Leaked documents obtained by The Grayzone have revealed the existence of a British military-intelligence cabal, which plotted since the onset of the Ukraine proxy war to prolong the conflict "at all costs." Known as Project Alchemy, the secret cell was convened under the watch of the British Ministry of Defense, and overseen by a high-ranking Lieutenant General, Charlie Stickland.

As we revealed in part one of this ongoing investigative series, Project Alchemy put forward an array of highly aggressive schemes, from cyber attacks to "discreet operations" to outright terrorism inspired by notorious Operation Gladio, the Cold War-era pan-European CIA and MI6 "stay-behind" fascist terror army. Its stated objective was to "keep Ukraine fighting" for as long as possible, no matter the cost.

Russia's new Oreshnik missile is a "qualitative advancement"
Summary showing that Moscow is ready to "mirror" any Western escalation, the former UN weapons inspector has said.

Russia's strike on a Ukrainian defense industrial facility using a new hypersonic ballistic missile system has shown the West that a policy of further escalation will lead to devastating consequences, former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter has said.

America's recklessness in dealing with Russia, as well as underestimating Moscow's readiness to respond, has already brought the world dangerously close to an all-out nuclear war, the former US marine officer claimed on the 'Judging Freedom' YouTube show on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country's military successfully hit a Ukrainian target with a new intermediate-range ballistic missile called the Oreshnik. The strike was a response to Kiev using US-made ATACMS and HIMARS systems, as well as British-made Storm Shadow missiles in strikes on internationally-recognized Russian territory earlier this week, he added.
