A number of President-elect Donald Trump 's most prominent Cabinet picks and appointees have been targeted by bomb threats and "swatting attacks," Trump's transition team said Wednesday. The FBI said it was investigating.

Trump transition spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said in a statement:
"Last night and this morning, several of President Trump's Cabinet nominees and Administration appointees were targeted in violent, unAmerican threats to their lives and those who live with them. The attacks ranged from bomb threats to swatting, in which attackers initiate an emergency law enforcement response against a target victim under false pretenses."
The tactic has become a popular one in recent years.

Leavitt said law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted and Trump and his transition team are grateful.

Among those targeted were New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, Trump's pick to serve as the next ambassador to the United Nations; Matt Gaetz, Trump's initial pick to serve as attorney general; Oregon Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, whom Trump chose to lead the Department of Labor, and former New York congressman Lee Zeldin, who has been tapped to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

Comment: Desperate times, desperate measures. Threats to life are effective destabilizers - real or not.

Biden pushing Ukraine to force teenagers to war

The outgoing White House team reportedly wants Vladimir Zelensky to remove his objections to conscripting the country's youth.

President Joe Biden's outgoing US administration is urging Ukraine to lower the country's conscription age to 18, in a desperate bid to increase its military ranks, the Associated Press (AP) reported on Wednesday.

A senior US official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the news agency that the White House believes the move is essential in order to bolster Kiev's fighting capabilities.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has previous pledged not to force his country's youngest adult men to enlist.

The official told the agency:
"The pure math is that Ukraine needs more troops. We are talking about increasing the pool of fighting-age men to sustain the fight."
Ukraine's lowest conscription age is currently set at 25, but the Biden administration believes lowering the age to 18 will help meet the urgent need for soldiers, the agency added. According to the source, Ukraine has indicated it needs at least 160,000 more troops, but the US government estimates that even this number may not be enough.

Comment: Ukraine and the White House are apparently not concerned about 'deaths' - for which 160,000 new conscripts may pay the ultimate penalty.

'Credible deterrence' needed against Russia - Merkel

European NATO nations can't stand up to the Kremlin without US support. European NATO member-states must enhance their defense capabilities in order to deter potential Russian aggression, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned. The former politician also expressed concern that US President-elect Donald Trump's return to the White House could potentially undermine regional security.

Speaking during a presentation of her memoirs, titled 'Freedom: Memories 1954-2021', in Berlin on Tuesday, Merkel acknowledged that her government had failed to reach NATO's 2% defense spending target quickly enough. She noted, however, that similar trends had been observed in many other European nations at the time.

Merkel, who served as chancellor from 2005 to 2021, was one of the guarantors of the 2014-15 Minsk agreements, which aimed to reintegrate Donbass into Ukraine while granting the region greater autonomy. In 2022, she admitted that the accords had in fact been an "attempt to give Ukraine time" to build up its military.

Comment: She is admitting 'war' was the plan.

Comment: A push to enhance Western defense? Given the Russian reveal of arsenal superiority it seems a bit too late for that! If NATO has a back door, it should leave 'en masse' immediately!

Mexico vows to retaliate against Trump's tariff threat

Mexico is ready to retaliate if US President-elect Donald Trump carries out his threat to impose 25% tariffs on goods from the neighboring country unless it curbs the flow of drugs and migrants, President Claudia Sheinbaum has said.

Sheinbaum, who took office in October, argued the penalties would do nothing to stop the flow of migrants or drugs bound for the US, but would only cause inflation and unemployment in both countries. Instead, she called for cooperation in tackling these challenges.

In a letter Sheinbaum wrote to Trump on Tuesday, she said:
"For every tariff, there will be a countermeasure, and so on until we jeopardize our common businesses."
The warning comes after Trump said on Monday that he plans to levy sweeping duties on all Canadian, Mexican, and Chinese imports after he takes office in January as part of a crackdown on illegal immigration and the US fentanyl crisis.

Trump may be Oreshniked on Ukraine even before he gets to China

Russian Bear

When it comes to state of the art Russian weaponry, what the inestimable Ray McGovern defines as the MICIMATT - the whole Hegemonic complex - seems to dwell in perpetual stupor.

They had no clue about Kalibr, Sarmat, Khinzal, Zircon or Avangard before they were introduced. They had no clue about Oreshnik ('Hazel") before the 30-minute protocolar warning by the Russians, stating a missile test was coming, and it was not nuclear. The Americans assumed that would be just another ballistic missile test, as they happen routinely close to the Arctic.

Even President Putin didn't know Oreshnik was ready for its close-up until the last minute. And Kremlin spokesman Peskov confirmed that only an ultra-rarefied circle knew Oreshnik even existed.

In a nutshell: the MICIMATT only sees what Russia shows off - and when it happens. Call it a leak-proof vow of secrecy permeating the Russian military complex - which, by the way, is a massive state, nationalized company, with a few private components.

And that offers the Russian government, in practice, better engineering, better physics, better mathematics and better practical, final results than anything across the self-important collective West.

Oreshnik - a kinetic weapons system - is a certified game-changer when it comes to military technology and warfare in more ways than one: actually several. Simple physics tells us that by combining enough kinetic force and mass, utter devastation is guaranteed, comparable to a low-to-medium yield nuclear weapon. With the added benefit of no radiation.

Oreshnik is an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM), under development by Russia (along with other systems) even before Trump 1.0 pulled the U.S. out of the INF treaty in 2019.

A few concise analyses have pointed out how Oreshnik can be fitted into intercontinental (italics mine) non-nuclear missiles. The Russians are being very diplomatic, not stressing that if Oreshnik is launched from the Russian Far East, it can easily reach most latitudes across the USA.

Moreover, applying Oreshnik tech to tactical missiles - Putin late last week said this is already happening - also changes the whole tactical domain.

The new game in town is Russia being capable of unleashing ultra-high-velocity kinetic weapons literally anywhere around the world - after warning civilians to abandon the area around the targets. And there's absolutely no defense against it, anywhere.

Six bombs used in Nord Stream sabotage - media

It was previously believed that the attack on the key pipelines involved four explosives

At least six bombs were used to cripple the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines and all four of the gas connector's lines were mined, German newspaper Die Welt has claimed, citing court papers.

The pipelines, built to deliver Russian gas to Germany and the rest of Western Europe, were destroyed by blasts at the bottom of the Baltic Sea in September 2022.

It was previously believed that the sabotage involved four explosive devices, the outlet noted in an article on Tuesday. However, Die Welt said its journalists had reviewed documents from a court case between Nord Stream AG and insurance companies, which suggest at least six bombs were detonated.

Comment:
1) As mentioned yesterday there was:
US and UK 'directly involved' in Nord Stream sabotage - Russia's spy chief
Few in the West reads what goes on Russia, but political observers, diplomats, and some journalists probably do. From this perspective, the timing for the publishing of the German article is noteworthy.

2) A few days ago, there was Nord Stream saboteurs linked to CIA - Spiegel which has this paragraph:
Meanwhile, skepticism about the official narrative persists. Earlier this month, renowned German diving expert Dr. Sven Thomas questioned the claim that a small Ukrainian team carried out the attack. He argued that explosions of such magnitude required military-grade bottom mines with a yield equivalent to 1,260 kilograms of TNT. Planting such devices, he said, would have necessitated a large vessel, not the yacht reportedly used.

Moscow has dismissed reports linking a small Ukrainian team to the sabotage as implausible. Last month, Danish media revealed that US Navy warships were operating near the Nord Stream pipelines shortly before the blasts.
Now that there is evidence of six and not four mined sites, the claim that a small team using a sailboat is becoming even more of a joke.

US investor eyes purchase of sabotaged Russian pipeline - WSJ
Financier Stephen Lynch says ownership of the Nord Stream 2 would give the US control over the EU's energy supply

An American financier and investor has asked permission from the US government to buy the sabotaged Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline if it is put up for auction, the Wall Street Journal has reported.

Stephen Lynch requested authorization in February from the US Treasury Department to bid on the pipeline if it is auctioned next year, the paper wrote on Thursday, citing a letter from the financier's lawyers that it saw.

The investor, who had reportedly spent two decades doing business in Moscow, told the outlet that US ownership of the pipeline would give the government a tool to exert pressure in any peace negotiations with Russia to end the Ukraine conflict and would serve long-term US interests.

"The bottom line is this: This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for American and European control over European energy supply for the rest of the fossil-fuel era," Lynch told the WSJ.

The pipeline, which was designed to increase Russian gas supplies to the EU, was damaged by sabotage in September 2022 and now stands idle as its Swiss-based operator is scrambling to avoid insolvency.

Moscow has argued that the US benefited from the attack due to its position as a supplier of liquefied natural gas to Europe, and pointed the finger at Washington as a possible culprit. American Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh has blamed the act of sabotage on the CIA, alleging that the agency carried out the attack with the help of the Norwegian Navy under direct orders of the White House.

Lynch reportedly believes he can buy the Nord Stream 2, which has been valued at around $11 billion, for pennies on the dollar, the WSJ wrote, citing people familiar with the matter.

In a letter to the Treasury, Lynch reportedly said that in January 2025, during the bankruptcy proceedings of Nord Stream 2 AG - the pipeline's operator and a subsidiary of Russian energy giant Gazprom - its debt will either be restructured or the company will be liquidated.

According to the article, Lynch, who was a large contributor to US President-elect Donald Trump's campaign, is seeking a license from the Treasury that would allow him to negotiate with entities sanctioned by the US.

Lynch argued that after the end of the Ukraine conflict, it will be "tempting for both Russia and its former customers in Germany and Europe to turn on the pipeline, regardless of who owns it," the WSJ wrote.

The Miami-based investor is also known for obtaining a license from the Treasury Department to complete the acquisition of the Swiss subsidiary of Sberbank in 2022, after the US imposed sanctions on Russia's largest lender.

Switzerland's m3 Groupe took control of a majority stake at the time, and Lynch became a minority shareholder.
In January there will be a new administration in the US. Thanks to the sanctions against Russia, the enforced spendings in Europe on the war in Ukraine, the outlook for companies from some countries to acquire businesses "for pennies on the dollar", is promising and is a good starting point for making business, even if, especially in this case there will be a risk.

4) The explosions took place near the Danish Island of Bornholm, but the vassalized country has been reluctant to explore and discuss what happened. Incidentally, Denmark has been, compared to the size of the country and population, a significant donor of aid. The Kiel Institute for World Economy has a page, Ukraine Support Tracker© European UnionA Database of Military, Financial and Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine with some statistics. In the latest release from August, there was a diagram that show that Denmark and many of the neighbours of the Nord Stream pipeline are in the Premier League of war spenders.

Kiel Institute
The "Bornholm country" is also a significant donor in absolute numbers:
Kile Institute1
5) A different way to appreciate the data, is to study the expenses on Ukrainian refugees. In the image, the US is listed with none, so the screenshot was selected to show another country.
Kiel Institute2
Many of the European countries not shown above have an expense of 2-3 billion Euro. The amount spend has be seen also in relation to the size of the country and its population. For instance, the Czech Republic has a population of 11 million, Denmark has a population of 6 million.

6) As a side note, during the first presidency of Donald Trump, there was an idea that Europe should pay more for defence, as many, except Poland, did not pay the promised 2 % required in the US satellite club. Already at that time, however, there had been refugee influxes from Syria that created major expenses for some European countries, especially Germany. With the added financial challenges resulting from the influx of Ukrainian refugees, as we can see from the data, that expense is kept at a high level. And if you include the consequences of events like the Nord Stream bombing, the trade losses due to sanctions, and forced green policies, a question could be who actually benefits. Or is the more important question, in case few really benefit, what is the purpose? Are we part of someone's experiment?

In the short term, there might be more options for some investors to do business with a few pennies on the dollar.

Newspaper

'The mainstream media is dead! Long live the mainstream media!'

Newspapers
© Off-Guardian
The old mainstream media is dying, and has been for years.

This has only become more apparent in the weeks since Donald Trump was re-(s)elected. News that CNN is firing half their workforce, that MSNBC's ratings continue to slump and is probably being sold, or that The Guardian is leaving X and in financial trouble are greeted with celebratory memes.

Newspaper readership has been dropping for decades, and television news channels struggle to drum up the audience of a moderately popular YouTube channel featuring cute cat videos set to quirky music.

And you know what? Great. That's all good stuff.

CNN, MSNBC, The Guardian - all of them - they deserve to go under. Digital communication has allowed people to undermine and overthrow decades-old propaganda outlets.

But does that mean it's over? Is Elon Musk actually correct when he reassuringly declares on X that "YOU are the media now".

Well the answer to that depends on whether or not you think the same forces that spent untold resources constructing this system of information control are just going to give up and go home when it starts to fail.

I mean - does anyone seriously think they would?

You don't think it 's rather more likely they'll just regroup, re-calculate, and go again?

Remember - newspapers and TV channels are functionaries of the establishment, not the establishment itself.

War is a racket - Biden seeking extra $24bn for Kiev

Biden
Outgoing US President Joe Biden has quietly asked Congress to allocate an additional $24 billion in Ukraine-related spending, according to a report by Politico on Tuesday.

The funding pitch includes $16 billion to backfill US stocks depleted by deliveries of weapons to Kiev and $8 billion to pay US arms producers for contracts in support of the Ukrainian military, the news outlet said, calling Biden's bid a "long shot".

The report is based on a document produced by the White House Office of Management and Budget, which was sent to lawmakers on Monday, according to Politico's sources on Capitol Hill.

The Biden administration previously vowed to spend every dollar already approved for Ukraine before the president leaves office on January 20. Last week, he also wrote off some $4.7 billion in forgivable loans given to Kiev. The money was part of a tranche approved by Congress in April, with $9.4 billion provided as a "loan" to appease lawmakers, who opposed continued funding of the Ukraine conflict.

Comment: So the lawmakers accepted the deal when they heard that it was going to be a loan and then the Biden administration conveniently forgives the loan. Just goes to show that you can't trust agreements made with such people.

President-elect Donald Trump claimed during the election campaign that he would end the Ukraine conflict in 24 hours if voters grant him a new term in office. Some of his allies have accused the "lame duck" Biden of trying to corner the next administration into a continued conflict with Russia.

Comment: Most of the money will likely go to the American industrial complex and to pay off corrupt officials.

Trump's peace promise: Three flashpoints that could ignite global chaos

4headsofstate
© Unknown/KJN
There are three geopolitical flashpoints that could ignite a great-power confrontation between the collective West and nations aligned with the emerging multipolar world: Israel/Iran, Russia/Ukraine, and China/Taiwan.

The incoming Trump administration has branded itself as a peace-making entity. But is this claim accurate? Moreover, given the realities of great-power politics, is peace even attainable?

On the Ukrainian front, the past week has marked the most significant escalation in hostilities since the high-intensity phase of the war began nearly three years ago. This development ushers in a new chapter of uncertainty and fear.

The escalation was triggered by President Joe Biden's decision to overturn a longstanding NATO policy that prohibited Ukraine from launching long-range missile strikes into Russian territory due to concerns over nuclear escalation. In short, that is precisely what has happened.

Comment: Setting up Trump for colossal failure is precisely Biden's scheme - his 'parting gift' to America.

Tara Reade: Biden leaves behind a legacy of blood and war money

The outgoing US president has put the world on the brink of World War III, and it's up to Putin's restraint to prevent it.

In 2019, I told the world that if Joe Biden was elected president, he would take us to war with Russia. And here we are on the brink of World War III with no diplomatic solutions from the Biden regime in sight.

The road to the dangerous place Biden's foreign policy has now put us all in was a long one, starting back when he was a senator in the 1990s. Some of the anti-Russia hawks he had as his staffers back then are still with him to this day. The xenophobia has long been in place and has now informed the decision to allow Ukraine to use American long-range missiles to strike Russian territory.

This decision was [IS] a tremendously dangerous blunder, a provocative escalation that has the genuine potential of dragging the world into a conflict of catastrophic proportions - a Third World War.

Comment: Would Biden do the same if Kamala had won?
