What prompted President Putin to finally recognize the Donbass Republics?

Recognizing the Donbass Republics might be considered a so-called 'escalation' among some foreign observers who don't have a proper understanding of the grand strategic dynamics at play but it's actually a clever attempt to change the local military-political calculations. This is meant to encourage the US-led West and especially the increasingly independent French to enter into a series of deals for resolving the interconnected Ukrainian Civil War and the undeclared US-provoked missile crisis in Europe...The situation will soon either get much worse or hopefully slightly better depending on America's choices in the immediate future, but the fact remains that it'll once again be its decision alone whether to escalate or not.

The author's analysis last week about the "Strategic Contours Of The Duma's Request For Putin To Recognize The Donbass Republics" predicted that he might end up making such a dramatic decision in the event that Kiev initiates a third round of civil war hostilities in that region, which is exactly what transpired in the three days since it was published. The humanitarian crisis that this triggered was severe enough for Russia to swiftly resort to a tacit application of the "Responsibility to Protect" (R2P) concept in order to ensure the security of those newly recognized republics' people, especially the over 700,000 who received Russian citizenship upon applying for it. Furthermore, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned over the weekend that his country might begin developing nuclear weapons while speaking at the Munich Security Conference, which poses a pressing threat to Russia.

Putin orders Russian military to Donbass Republics... as peacekeepers

Comment: Shades of 'polite green men'!

The president has signed a decree pledging cooperation between Russia and the two breakaway regions

President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Russian military to "secure the peace" in the newly recognized Donetsk and Lugansk republics, which were formerly considered to be part of Ukraine.

Moscow officially recognized the independence of the two breakaway regions on Monday.

Putin has instructed the Defense Ministry to send peacekeepers into the Donbass, while telling the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to establish diplomatic relations with the states.

Comment: Is the die cast?

RT reports:
Ukraine has effectively sealed a deal on establishing an EU military training mission in the country, Kiev's top diplomat [Dmitry Kuleba] has revealed, amid an increasingly tense situation on its shared border with Russia.

"We reached an agreement with the EU in principle that the EU will roll out advisory training in Ukraine," he said. However, he went on to say such a deal would not include combat forces.

Brussels will also "offer a set of proposals on strengthening our cyber security," the diplomat added.

Kuleba's remarks come amid worsening tensions on the Russian-Ukrainian border, which have escalated in the past few days. Kiev's soldiers and those loyal to the two self-declared separatist republics in the Donbass have accused one another of heavy shelling, and international observers have warned that the situation could spill over into a resumption of full-scale hostilities.

American and European officials have been warning for months that Russia's armed forces are preparing an invasion of Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly insisted that it has no aggressive intentions toward its neighboring country and has hit out at Western military presence close to its borders.

In November, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that "more and more forces and equipment are being accumulated on the line of contact in the Donbass, supported by an increasing number of Western instructors."

Best of the Web: Ukraine shells independent Donbass, Russia claims killing and capture of Ukrainian soldiers within Russian borders

donbass
The self-proclaimed republics in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine have accused Kiev's forces of ramping up attacks on their positions on Sunday night.

Territory controlled by the breakaway Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the neighboring Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) has reportedly been subjected to heavy artillery fire during the day.

The source for the information is local officials, and RT is unable to independently corroborate their assertions.

The attacks have allegedly intensified in the evening, according to videos circulating online.

"At the moment, the situation is only getting worse compared to the past few days. We've detected some 700 munitions fired at the territory of the republic [on Sunday]," a spokesman for the militia of DPR, Eduard Basurin, told Russian media.

Comment: Earlier today, the Russian military reported that it killed 5 members of a Ukrainian "sabotage and recon group" attempting to cross into Russia in two combat vehicles. Ukraine denies this took place. They also denied that they have attacked Donetsk and Lugansk, so take that other denial with a grain of salt. Shortly after this, FSB director Bortnikov claimed that a Ukrainian soldier had been captured alive and is being held prisoner.

Ukraine started this war. Their masters in the U.S. and NATO wanted this. But no one predicted that Putin would recognize DPR and LPR's independence. That makes it official. The Minsk agreements are dead. Russia has been holding out for years, but Kiev has failed to implement ANY of their obligations. This just makes official what was de facto already the case. Though with the decision to send peacekeepers, the entire managerial class in the West now have the excuse they need to pat themselves on the back for predicting another "Russian invasion." We guess they'll get to find out if a war is really what they wanted after all - if it comes to that.

The Neoliberal War on Dissent in the West

police/protest

When it comes to distant and adversarial countries, we are taught to recognize tyranny through the use of telltale tactics of repression. Dissent from orthodoxies is censored. Protests against the state are outlawed. Dissenters are harshly punished with no due process. Long prison terms are doled out for political transgressions rather than crimes of violence. Journalists are treated as criminals and spies. Opposition to the policies of political leaders are recast as crimes against the state.

When a government that is adverse to the West engages in such conduct, it is not just easy but obligatory to malign it as despotic. Thus can one find, on a virtually daily basis, articles in the Western press citing the government's use of those tactics in Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela and whatever other countries the West has an interest in disparaging (articles about identical tactics from regimes supported by the West — from Riyadh to Cairo — are much rarer). That the use of these repressive tactics render these countries and their populations subject to autocratic regimes is considered undebatable.

But when these weapons are wielded by Western governments, the precise opposite framework is imposed: describing them as despotic is no longer obligatory but virtually prohibited. That tyranny exists only in Western adversaries but never in the West itself is treated as a permanent axiom of international affairs, as if Western democracies are divinely shielded from the temptations of genuine repression. Indeed, to suggest that a Western democracy has descended to the same level of authoritarian repression as the West's official enemies is to assert a proposition deemed intrinsically absurd or even vaguely treasonous.

A Social Credit System Arrives in Canada

Justin Trudeau just created a caste of economic untouchables. Can we stop this dystopian policy from taking hold in America?

Last summer, I warned readers of Common Sense that financial deplatforming would be the next wave of online censorship. Big Tech companies like PayPal were already working with left-wing groups like the ADL and SPLC to define lists of individuals and groups who should be denied service. As more and more similarly minded tech companies followed suit (as happened with social media censorship), these deplorables would be deplatformed, debanked, and eventually denied access to the modern economy altogether, as punishment for their unacceptable views.

That prediction has become reality.

What I could not have anticipated is that it would occur first in our mild-mannered neighbor to the north, with the Canadian government itself directing the reprisals. It remains to be seen whether Canada will be a bellwether for the U.S. But anyone who cares about the future of America as a place where citizens are free to protest their government needs to understand what has just occurred and work to stop it from taking root here.

Comment: If we allow our rights to be taken, they will be.

'Reminiscent of China' - Euro MP slams Trudeau for 'tyrannical actions' against truckers

Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau has been denounced by a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) over the "tyrannical actions" he has taken against peaceful protestors taking part in the ongoing 'Freedom Convoy' demonstrations.

Cristian Terhes, a Romanian MEP, has denounced the "tyrannical actions" of Prime Minister Trudeau in regards to his actions against the ongoing Freedom Convoy protest.

The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group member went on to say that what Trudeau was doing was "reminiscent" of Communist China, and that the Canadian leader should be "isolated" by the international community over his actions. Terhes, in a statement sent to Breitbart London, alleged:
"Justin Trudeau and his federal government must be isolated by the democratic international community to show revulsion at his tyrannical actions in Canada against peaceful protesters, who have been trampled under horse hoof as children have been batoned by federal security agents. Such scenes are reminiscent of China, whose government he wants to imitate, not to Western democracies."
The ECR group member's comments come shortly after at least 100 demonstrators were arrested in Ottawa on Friday, with the Canadian government using emergency powers to crack down on the Freedom Convoy demos across the country.

Blinken defends not placing more sanctions on Russia ahead of possible Ukraine invasion

Blinken

Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday defended the Biden's administration's decision not to place more sanctions on Russia ahead of a possible incursion by Moscow against Ukraine. During an appearance on CNN's State of the Union, he stated:
"The purpose of the sanctions in the first instance is to try to deter Russia from going to war. As soon as you trigger them, that deterrent is gone. And until the last minute, as long as we can try to bring a deterrent effect to this, we're going to try to do that."
Blinken's defense came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday called for preemptive sanctions to be placed on Russia in anticipation of a potential invasion.

The Biden administration announced last month that it imposed sanctions on four current and former Ukrainian government officials who were believed to be working to help carry out Russian influence operations in Ukraine. Some, however, are calling on the U.S. to place more penalties on Moscow now.

Comment: There is no 'truth' that supports false accusations - only narratives. Sanctions? Putin claims Russia is immune to sanctions!
No new sanctions can possibly deter Russia from doing what it wants, because Moscow has experience dealing with them for many years already, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, on Friday, the Russian leader claimed Moscow cannot possibly avoid Western sanctions, because they are not aimed at altering the Kremlin's behavior. In his view, they are actually a plan to hinder the economic development of Russia.
"Sanctions will be imposed in any case. Whether they have a reason today, for example, in connection with the events in Ukraine, or there is no reason, it will be found. The goal is different. In this case, the goal is to slow down the development of Russia and Belarus."
The Russian president also stated that Moscow believes these sanctions to be illegitimate, calling them an unfair competition tool of the US and its allies. Also accusing the US of a selective approach to international norms, he said:
"This is a gross violation of international law," he said, also accusing the US of a selective approach to international norms. They care about it only when it is advantageous to them. They always interpret everything only in their own favor and neglect the interests of other [countries]."
The only way for Moscow and Minsk to mitigate the effect of sanctions is to develop economic cooperation and import substitution.

Fencing will be reinstalled around the Capitol's grounds as part of ramped-up security ahead of President Joe Biden's State of the Union address, given the potential threat of a truck-convoy protest similar to those in Canada, a new report says.

The fencing is set to be installed next week, ahead of Biden's March 1 speech — and amid fears of a paralyzing rally forming similar to the anti-vaccine-mandate demonstrations in the north, Fox News reported Sunday.

"The United States Capitol Police and the United States Secret Service have been closely working together to plan for the upcoming State of the Union," The United States Capitol Police said in a press release.

The Russian president was advised by top security officials to acknowledge the independence of the breakaway regions

Following a meeting of Russia's Security Council, President Vladimir Putin has announced that he will decide on Monday whether to recognize the two self-declared breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in Ukraine's war-torn Donbass region.

Speaking at the end of the session, during which government ministers and the head of the country's security agencies claimed that the humanitarian situation across the border is worsening, Putin said that "I have heard your opinions. A decision will be made today," before ending the meeting.

Comment: Here's Putin TV address to the nation (with EN subs). It's worth watching in full. Putin excoriated the Ukrainian government, cataloguing its crimes against its own people since 2014

All that hysteria about INVASION overlooked RECOGNITION!

The chessboard has just radically shifted. What will NATO do now?

Well, there's nothing they can do, really. Other than howl and shriek. Russia is now the moral and legal arbiter of 'what happens' - in its 'near-abroad' anyway.

Dollars

The coming monetary enslavement

Banksters
© Facebook
Things get pretty weird pretty quick when the banksters start talking about the nature of money.

For example, take a look at this passage from "The Socio-Political Dimensions of the Currency: Implications for the Transition to the Euro," a research paper by French economist Bruno Théret published in the Journal of Consumer Policy in 1999. Given its title, its provenance and its publication context, you would be forgiven for assuming this is just another eye-wateringly boring exercise in abstract philosophical onanism. But you would be wrong.
At the origin of money we have a "relation of representation" of death as an invisible world, before and beyond life - a representation that is the product of the symbolic function proper to the human species and which envisages birth as an original debt incurred by all men, a debt owing to the cosmic powers from which humanity emerged (Malamoud, 1988; Rospabé, 1995; Thiveaud, 1995). Payment of this debt, which can however never be settled on earth — because its full reimbursement is out of reach — takes the form of sacrifices which, by replenishing the credit of the living, make it possible to prolong life and even in certain cases to achieve eternity by joining the Gods.
I'm not sure what you were expecting from a stuffy economics paper, but it probably wasn't that. But then, this isn't an economics paper. It's a paper on the nature of the monetary system itself, which, you will concede, is a different beast entirely.

Indeed, if you follow my work, you'll know that the question of monetary reform isn't just some silly ivory tower distraction; it is the core issue that lies at the bottom of the conspiracy reality rabbit hole.

As I argued in Century of Enslavement: The History of the Federal Reserve, the history of the United States (but not only the United States) takes on an entirely different character when we see it as the consequence of a secret war taking place over control of the nation's currency. And, as you will also know from that documentary, the monetary war in the United States was decided in favour of the banking oligarchy in 1913 with the creation of the Federal Reserve.

Agustin Carstens
© Corbett Report
But the story of that war is not over yet. The nature of money is being called into question yet again. This time, the argument is not about the creation of a new regional currency (the euro), which was the subject of Théret's thesis. No, this time the bankers are trying to create an entirely new form of money, one that will serve as the capstone on their pyramid of power and complete their takeover of the financial system of the world.

It is in this context that the banksters are once again waxing philosophical about the nature and the meaning of money.

Case in point: Agustin Carstens — the morbidly obese head of the banksters' key body, the Bank for International Settlements — recently gave a speech on "Digital currencies and the soul of money" at a conference on central bank digital currencies hosted by Goethe University's Institute for Law and Finance (ILF).

And — just like The Great Narrative of the World Economic Forum is worth parsing for its insight into the world that Klaus Schwab and his cronies are preparing to bring about — this speech, too, is worth parsing for what it can tell us about the coming monetary enslavement grid being prepared by Carstens and his cronies.
