Ukraine: The great manipulation

estadio de Moscú
President Putin exposes himself. He gathered 80,000 people in a stadium to celebrate the reunification with Crimea and the fight against Ukrainian neo-Nazis. Meanwhile, in Kiev, no crowds take to the streets to support President Zelensky, who is in hiding.
While revelations are multiplying about the exactions committed by Ukrainian banditry over the past eight years, Westerners continue to perceive only the suffering of the Ukrainian civilian population. They are unaware of the root causes of the war, as well as the events that led the Kremlin to unleash it. No matter, the banditry is losing and the great powers are preparing for peace.

Military operations continue in Ukraine with two radically different narratives depending on whether one listens to the Western or Russian media. These two versions diverge not only in describing the war, but more importantly in describing the goals of the war.

In the West, the public is convinced that the Russian army has enormous logistical problems and cannot fuel its tanks. Its planes strike indiscriminately at military and civilian targets, indiscriminately destroying entire cities. Dictator Putin will not be done until he crushes Kiev and kills elected President Zelensky. In his eyes, Ukraine is guilty of having chosen democracy in 2014 instead of reconstituting the Soviet Union. Until then, he sows death and desolation on a civilian population, while his soldiers are killed on a large scale.

Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny has been sentenced to nine years in prison in a fraud and contempt of court case. The activist was already serving a two years and eight months term under a separate sentence. The activist has also been sent to a higher security facility, with a more restrictive regime for inmates.

Navalny pleaded not guilty during the trial, in which prosecutors had sought 13 years behind bars. The ruling can be appealed.

On Tuesday, the Lefortovo court in Moscow agreed with the prosecution, which had argued that in some cases, large donations to Navalny's anti-corruption and political campaigning organizations were used by him and his co-conspirators to cover personal expenses. Navalny was ordered to pay a 1.2 million rubles ($11,500) fine in addition to the time behind bars.

The only 'agency' Ukraine has is the Central Intelligence kind

"You're denying the agency of Ukrainians!"

This is a line you've probably had bleated at you by propagandized empire livestock if you've engaged in online debate about the role western powers have played in paving the way to this war.

One of the many, many tricks that imperial spinmeisters have pulled out of their hats in their shockingly frenetic campaign to manage the narrative about what's happening in Ukraine is to insist that it's outrageous and disgusting to suggest that Ukraine is being used as a sacrificial pawn in the grand chessboard maneuverings of the US-centralized empire, because it is denying the "agency" of that nation. The argument is that Ukraine freely chose to enter into the situation in which it now finds itself, with no outside pressure or influence of any kind whatsoever.

US sending secretly acquired Soviet air defense equipment to Ukraine: report

The U.S. is sending Ukraine some Soviet-made air defense equipment that Washington took charge of decades ago through a secret program, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

The systems, to include the SA-8 short-range surface-to-air missile system, were obtained by the U.S. for the purposes of examining Russian military technology and helping train American troops, U.S. officials told the outlet.

The weapons are useful to Ukrainian forces, as their military already knows how to use Soviet systems.

Both the National Security Council and Pentagon declined to comment on what specific weapons the U.S. has sent to Ukraine to help the country beat back a violent Russian invasion that began Feb. 24. Press secretary John Kirby told reporters Monday:
"Operational security matters to the Ukrainians, right now. They're fighting for their country, and the Pentagon is not going to be detailing publicly the tools with which they are doing that."

Comment: The US is sending this equipment 'to make matters worse'.

Flashback The mess that Nuland made

Ukrainian State Border Guard Service Base in Kiev • Oct. 8, 2014
As the Ukrainian army squares off against ultra-right and neo-Nazi militias in the west and violence against ethnic Russians continues in the east, the obvious folly of the Obama administration's Ukraine policy has come into focus even for many who tried to ignore the facts, or what you might call "the mess that Victoria Nuland made."

Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs "Toria" Nuland was the "mastermind" behind the Feb. 22, 2014 "regime change" in Ukraine, plotting the overthrow of the democratically elected government of President Viktor Yanukovych while convincing the ever-gullible U.S. mainstream media that the coup wasn't really a coup but a victory for "democracy."

To sell this latest neocon-driven "regime change" to the American people, the ugliness of the coup-makers had to be systematically airbrushed, particularly the key role of neo-Nazis and other ultra-nationalists from the Right Sektor. For the U.S.-organized propaganda campaign to work, the coup-makers had to wear white hats, not brown shirts.

Barr: Biden 'lied to the American people' about his son Hunter's emails

Former US Attorney General Bill Barr on Monday accused President Biden of having "lied to the American people" during a presidential debate when he called The Post's exposure of his son Hunter Biden's emails "a Russian plant."

During an appearance on Fox News, Barr said:
"I was very disturbed during the debate when candidate Biden lied to the American people about the laptop.

"He's squarely confronted with the laptop, and he suggested that it was Russian disinformation and pointed to the letter written by some intelligence people that was baseless — which he knew was a lie. And I was shocked by that."

Comment: At best, former US AG Barr was 'carefully ineffectual' on this matter.

Hemingway: Everything media claimed about Biden family business was a lie

"The Biden family business, which as you went through, involves getting a lot of money and other gifts from shady foreign characters in exchange for proximity to Joe Biden," Federalist Editor-In-Chief Mollie Hemingway said on Fox News Primetime.
"There are multiple family members involved with this. We have reams of evidence about the corruption involved in this, and yet the media went out of their way to suppress this story beyond a shadow of a doubt, and tech companies colluded as well to do it. But there's no question this was the single most important story of the 2020 election. They hid it from the American people."

French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated his promise to issue struggling families with food vouchers amid sharp rises in fuel and raw materials costs, caused, as he claimed, by the ongoing Russian military offensive in Ukraine.

In an interview with France Bleu radio on Tuesday, Macron said the world is facing "a global food crisis."

Emphasizing that France has advised fellow European countries to come up with a "concerted response" to this issue, the president, who is facing the election on April 10, said his government has already taken a number of measures, including energy caps and fuel discounts, to support the country's residents. Macron said:
"Ukraine and Russia are true barns for the international food suppl. I want to introduce food vouchers to help the most modest households and the middle classes to face these additional costs."
He added that he would also want his compatriots "to buy locally" and to buy French products.

Comment: The threat of crisis demands solutions, but the optimal time to initiate them was long ago. Up for election, Macron is 'going with the grain'.

EU nations circle the wagons in new 'Strategic Compass'

The defense ministers of European Union nations adopted the long-awaited "Strategic Compass" document on Monday, presenting a plan to beef up the bloc's defenses in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Officials had hastened to rewrite the document since the war began in late February, replacing the diplomatic approach where a would-be adversary is unnamed with plain language painting Russia as an aggressor against its neighbor and as a threat to Europe. It reads:
"We aim to become a more assertive security and defense actor by enabling more robust, rapid and decisive action, including for the resilience of the Union and our mutual assistance and solidarity."
It formalizes several initiatives aimed at breathing operational nimbleness into an institution built on lengthy decision-making processes — albeit all in due time. For example, member states want to hammer out by 2023 the "practical modalities" for forming mini-coalitions of the willing, consisting of subsets of members that would deploy to hot spots on behalf of the bloc and under EU Council oversight.

On Monday, in the wake of Vice President Kamala Harris' disastrous visit to Poland, it was reported that her National Security Adviser Nancy McEldowney, will become the latest staffer to leave Harris' office.

According to Reuters, McEldowney, who advised not only Harris but also President Biden on foreign affairs including Afghanistan, Iran, and Ukraine, wrote in an internal memo that she was quitting in order to "focus on some pressing personal matters," adding, "This was a difficult decision because I am so deeply committed to the work we do and the crucial national interest we serve. But after more than a year, this is the right decision for my family."
