One year ago, Canada dipped into autocracy

On February 14, last year, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked a sweeping nationwide measure, the kind of which was last used by his father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, during the October Crisis of 1970.

That was a reaction to a rash of terrorist incidents perpetrated by Francophone separatists in the province of Quebec.

The federal Emergencies Act, which replaced the War Measures Act used in 1970, as well as during both World Wars, is supposed to be used in cases of a serious threat to national security or public welfare. So what was the threat that caused Trudeau to pull out the big guns? A convoy of truckers and their supporters — coined the Freedom Convoy — headed to Canada's capital city of Ottawa to defend the notion of equal rights of all Canadians to work, assemble, enjoy indoor leisure activities, and travel regardless of anti-Covid vaccine status. The fact that these fundamental aspects of everyday life could no longer be taken for granted was a testament to how authoritarian the Canadian government had already become. And when Canadians finally decided to demonstrate that they were fed up, the Trudeau government's response was an unprecedented crackdown that put Canada on par with countries that it in-turn criticizes.

'Brave Ukrainians doing dirty work', ex-Pentagon chief says in prank call

Mark Esper

The US should make every effort to arm Ukraine in its conflict against Russia, because the nation is doing the dirty work Washington has shied away from, former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said on Monday. He added that Ukraine has every right to attack Russian military targets, including those located within the country.

Esper, who served as the Pentagon chief in the administration of former President Donald Trump, spoke his mind in a phone call with the Russian pranksters who go by the names of Vovan and Lexus, believing that he was talking to former Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko. Several clips of the conversation were uploaded to Russia's Rutube video platform.

"Brave Ukrainian people are doing the dirty work of what we never wanted to do here in the United States, which is why we should continue to support you with everything we can, whether it's munitions or arms or intelligence," he said.

The ex-official recommended that Ukraine conduct more strikes on Russian military warehouses and logistics centers. He also told the pranksters that Kiev had "a sovereign right to conduct strikes on any targets you see fit," including within Russia, explaining that an adversary with an off-limits "sanctuary" has an advantage.

The man behind the curtain: A new report exposes how George Soros' propaganda machine has corrupted the media

A new report from the US-based Newsbusters has exposed a vast web of media and activist organizations, funded with millions of dollars, annually, by the billionaire George Soros. The outlet bills itself as "an online rapid-response vehicle for documenting, exposing, and neutralizing liberal bias in the media."

The extensive global influence of the Hungarian tycoon is well-known, and Soros himself has admitted it on countless occasions - including boasts about his efforts in Ukraine. Soros openly declared his role in promoting the 2014 US-orchestrated Maidan coup in Kiev, stating at the time: "I set up a foundation in Ukraine before Ukraine became independent of Russia [sic]. The foundation has been functioning ever since. And it played an important part in events now."

In a lengthy interview with the New York Times in October of 2019, Soros explained: "The arc of history doesn't follow its own course [and] needs to be bent," and he was "engaged in trying to bend it in the right direction."

Berlusconi blames Zelensky for war in Ukraine, suggests 'cash for ceasefire deal'

Silvio Berlusconi
Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi slams the Ukrainian president for the war in Ukraine.
Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said on Monday that Volodymyr Zelensky is responsible for the war in Ukraine.

"All [Zelensky] had to do was stop attacking the two autonomous republics of the Donbass, and this would not have happened," Berlusconi told Italian media on Sunday evening after voting in Lombardy regional elections, which are set to be the first major political test for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's rightwing coalition.

"I judge, very, very negatively the behavior of this gentleman," Berlusconi added.

Comment: RT reports:
Speaking after a regional election in Lombardy, Berlusconi, who leads the Forza Italia party, slammed Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, saying: "If I had been the prime minister, I would never have gone [to talk to him] because we are witnessing the devastation of his country and the slaughter of his soldiers and civilians."

[...]

"Because starting from tomorrow we will no longer give you dollars and we will no longer give you weapons. Only such a thing could convince this gentleman to reach a ceasefire," he said.

Following the remarks, his coalition ally, current PM Giorgia Meloni, appeared to distance herself from Berlusconi, with her office saying that Rome's support for Kiev remains firm.

The former Italian prime minster, who served four terms from 1994 to 2011, developed close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He even visited Crimea in 2015 after the peninsula voted in a referendum to join Russia, despite the fact that Western countries refused to recognize the results.

Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022, Berlusconi has urged Moscow and Kiev to agree to a ceasefire, while offering to act as a mediator between the two sides. In November, he claimed that he could "lure" Putin to the negotiating table.

Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said at the time that Moscow welcomes any peace-making efforts, but noted that it would be better to try to "lure" Zelensky.

US State Department funding secret 'disinformation' crusade to blacklist conservative media

The Global Disinformation Index, a British organization with two affiliated U.S. nonprofit groups, is feeding blacklists to ad companies with the intent of defunding and shutting down websites peddling alleged "disinformation," the Washington Examiner reported. This same "disinformation" group has received $330,000 from two State Department-backed entities linked to the highest levels of government, raising concerns from First Amendment lawyers and members of Congress.

GDI through its website maintains a "dynamic exclusion list" of the worst offenders of disinformation online, which it then distributes to ad tech companies - such as Microsoft's Xandr - in order to try and "defund and downrank these worst offenders," and deprive said sites of ad revenue.

According to The American Conservative executive director Emily Doak:
"They might consider TAC a 'high-risk' publication because we have consistently taken on the bipartisan establishment's sacred cows, whether it's the war in Iraq, nation-building in Afghanistan, or the harm done by free trade and open borders — and we've been proven right time and time again. They know they can't say we're wrong, only that we're biased and 'high-risk,' so we will wear that designation as a badge of honor."

Joe Biden tried to sunset social security, all other federal programs as a senator

Biden
© Anonymous/APFreshman Senator Joe Biden
Joe Biden introduced legislation that would sunset all federal programs, including social security, every four years when he was a freshman United States senator in 1975.

On Tuesday night at the State of the Union, Biden stated that "some Republicans" wish to "sunset" social security and Medicare, leading to significant pushback from GOP lawmakers on the House floor while millions watched.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has said on several occasions that Republicans in the House - where the framework to a debt ceiling resolution will be formed - are not seeking to slash the programs as part of their desired cuts to offset the $31.7 trillion debt ceiling reached last month. He shook his head in disagreement when Biden made the claims from the rostrum.

On Thursday, Biden spoke at the University of Tampa in Florida and noted that Sen. Rick Scott's (R-FL) "Rescue America" policy plan included a proposal to sunset all federal legislation every five years.

"If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again," the plan adds.

Comment: How soon will Washington 'sunset' the Biden program?

'Two FBIs': Whistleblowers accuse DC HQ of trampling Constitution, field offices

FBI Whistleblowers, including a 33-year veteran of the agency, have accused the top leadership of that embattled group of trampling the Constitution and trying to bully their field offices into preventing the First Amendment of the US Constitution, and that is not all that happened in DC this week.

House Republicans, who now have some power to do something about it, have been going after the leftist corrupted, Marxist ideology and actions- hard this week in their committee hearings.

Republicans have shown that federal agencies have become weaponized against their own members and are also working against the constitutional rights of the American people.

This week has been intense for Democrats and Republicans.

Comment: Integrity and accountability? For the FBI, less is more.

Republicans say Pelosi needs to testify about Jan. 6 security failures

A pair of House Republicans are calling on Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi to testify about security failures that occurred at the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6, 2021.

Speaking about House Republicans' report detailing security failures at the Capitol that day, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan said:
"The reason there wasn't a proper security presence on that day goes right to the speaker's staff and the speaker's office. As you go back and look at the communications, there's this pattern that develops where the Sergeant of Arms is meeting with Pelosi's staff. Many of those meetings, Republican staff wasn't allowed to be there, but they had this pattern where everything had to run through her office, her staff, before the Sergeant of Arms could make a decision."
Texas Republican Rep. Troy Nehls issued a similar response:
"And Nancy Pelosi. You do have questions you need to answer ... Nancy, we'll get you, and we'll fly you back from Italy once you're the ambassador!"
Nehls said as he joked about prior reports speculating that President Biden was considering offering the U.S. Ambassador to Italy post to Pelosi.

Comment: No one is above the law. Some, such as Pelosi, conveniently forget that part.

Flashback SOTT Focus: US Military's Newest Weapon Against China And Russia: Stratospheric Balloons

The Pentagon is quietly transitioning high-altitude balloon projects to the military services.

The Pentagon is working on a new plan to rise above competition from China and Russia: balloons.

The high-altitude inflatables, flying at between 60,000 and 90,000 feet, would be added to the Pentagon's extensive surveillance network and could eventually be used to track hypersonic weapons.

The idea may sound like science fiction, but Pentagon budget documents signal the technology is moving from DoD's scientific community to the military services.

"High or very high-altitude platforms have a lot of benefit for their endurance on station, maneuverability and also flexibility for multiple payloads," said Tom Karako, senior fellow for the International Security Program and Missile Defense Project director at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

The Pentagon continues to invest in these projects because the military could use the balloons for various missions.

Comment: Not only has the Pentagon already rolled out a similar fleet of high-altitude balloons as China, their balloons routinely "violate" Chinese airspace. It would appear, therefore, that the Pentagon is 'shooting down the competition' because it wants to 'own' the stratosphere. That, and Deep State 'continuity govt' planners may be preparing the population for a coming showdown with China by cranking up anti-Chinese sentiment.
