And so it begins. This time it isn't 'kayfabe' and 'negotiated strikes and counter-strikes'. The 'peace president', when announcing joint US-Israeli strikes against Iran on 28 February, said it would just take a few days, and gloated that he 'took out the regime' by targeting top Iranian leadership, including Ayatollah Khamenei. But Iran's swift and massive response - bombing 11 countries housing US and Israeli military bases and installations, including a British base in Cyprus, EU territory - now has Trump saying the war will 'last for weeks'...

What did they think was going to happen, that Iranians would 'rise up and take power from their oppressors'? The Americans appear to have truly believed their own propaganda. In reality, Iranians are defiantly rallying in support of their country, and government, while Muslims across the region are preparing to potentially join the fray and do as Iran has always sought: remove all American military forces from the Persian Gulf, if not the Middle East as a whole.

It's too early for predicting such an end-game, but in the meantime, it appears that, in the absence of Iranian popular support for US and Israeli 'regime intervention', the strategy could switch to attacking the people of Iran and the country's infrastructure, 'punishment' for not 'capitulating'.

A picture emerges for the astute observer, and it suggests only one side correctly assessed the opponent, only side did properly prepare, and only one side is pursuing a plan with a good chance of success.

One side is trying to assassinate the people they just negotiated with a day before, terminally ill old men, and little children.

The other side is progressively depriving the foe of his ISR installations, military bases, runways, intelligence stations, and last but not least - of ammunion they had very little to begin with.

The images I have seen from imacts of Iranian missiles showed very little to no air defence activity, neither in the Arab countries nor Israel itself.

And the more I admire foresight and planning of the Russian government, and Putin in particular. They deliberately dragged the Ukraine conflict out to deprive Nato and the US of weapons and supplies, at the cost of their own soldiers.

And to into some details here - as other usually trustworthy sources report, not a single Israeli or US fighter jet or bomber has entered Irani airspace over the last days. All of the bombing is done via Tomahawks - if you remember, those ones' they couldn't give Zelensky, because they needed them for themselves. Somebody is aware and afraid of the actual combat performance of Russian, Iranian and Chinese air defense systems, it seems.

But just like aircraft carriers, Tomahawk missiles are obsolete. The Russian S-200/S-300 systems were specifically designed decades ago to intercept these sub-sonic cruise missiles. But Iran is a huge country, and one can still saturate a defended area with drones, so Iranian defense systems cannot prevent all hits, even with external help. Which is why all their critical facilities are underground.

As of today, I heard of 3 American fighter jets (F-15s, F-16) shot down in Arab countries near the Iranian border, officially by "friendly fire". What else ... But what will they do when the Tomahawks run out, of which they have a few days left ?

Israel will expend their supplies of Patriot missiles within days, they are using 2-3 minimum to bring down one Iranian missiles/drones whatever, they cannot be resupplied in a hurry they use a years worth of stock in a week or less, it takes Lockheed Martin 1 year to manufacture 550 missiles.

They have trouble getting jet fuel (Jp8) in, F-35 one hour in the air 10 to 14 hours of maintenance.

Apparently the missiles are fired from area’s of Iraq and Syria

Also those missiles cost about $13 million each versus Iranian missiles $200,000 to $500,000

Bsotted I know, the Patriot AD system was obsolete 20 years ago. As reliable sources reported, they shot down exactly zero Scud missiles during the Iraq war. It was developed from the late '60s to the mid / late '70, and is thus fundamentally constrained to the limits designed in, only considering known "threats" of that time.

The measured combat effectiveness in the Ukraine is 5...6%, and this includes slow-flying long-range drones. There is not a single confirmed interception of a Kalibr or Iskander missile, let alone a hypersonic Kinzhal or Zirkon. The latter can't even be tracked by this ancient system, nor can it's AD missiles reach them.

Yes I have as best I can, however the country may not be so ready, which in a sense is good,(wake up call) because amongst the brains trust the latest opposition aspirant for the Prime Ministership, Angus Taylor Rhodes scholar no less decided many years ago when he was in the portfolio in charge of energy & the like, he decided to have the Strategic oil reserve be kept in the US of A.

The Iranians got AFAIK earlier versions of S-300s about 20 years ago, and started out with cloning them. But developed them further over the years according to their own needs. Especially the mountainous terrain, which limits radar sight and range, was a problem the Russian system was not specifically designed for.

And I heard the Chinese delivered AD systems and missiles as well, using the chance for real-life combat tests of their systems.

I think the most likely outcome (at the moment) like like that - both continue their campaign as long as ammunition and fuel supplies allow. Effectivity was not good from the start, but massively deteriorated after Iran hit US long-range radars e.g. in the Al Udeid air base (Qatar). The Iran will in return deprive the US of military facilities (runways, supply, repair. ISR facilities), energy and water supplies of the region, and transportation ways. And all the while systematically destroying Israel, with another missiles each day. They will not agree to any ceasefire until all US forces withdraw from the Middle East, and Israel withdraws from Palestine (again, my guess).

Running away from the battle field is basically surrender.

If the Pentagon gives in to the neocons and doubles down by starting a ground operation, bodybags will come back home at an Ukrainian rate (1300 ... 2500 KIA per day).
