Vatican says Catholic Church, its priests cannot bless same-sex unions

Pope Francis leads Angelus prayer from his window at the Vatican

The Catholic Church and its priests cannot bless same-sex unions, the Vatican said Monday.

The Vatican's announcement, through its Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was an official response to the question on the blessing of same-sex unions.

"The blessing of homosexual unions cannot be considered licit," according to the statement, obtained by USA Today.

The statement also reads: "There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God's plan for marriage and family."

The Vatican's stance became unclear when in an interview released this summer with Pope Francis the Roman Catholic Church leader endorsement of same-sex civil unions.

Monday's Vatican statement also says God "never ceases" to bless all people, including people who are gay.

"But he does not and cannot bless sin," the statement reads. "He blesses sinful man, so that he may recognize that he is part of his plan of love and allow himself to be changed by him.. ... The Church does not have, and cannot have, the power to bless unions of persons of the same sex."

Comment: If people don't like the Catholic Church's unsurprising position on gay union, the solution is pretty simple: find a system you prefer. The liberal perspective of forcing its ideology onto everything else is a far greater system of control than the Catholic Church. The Vatican has their own demons to contend with but that is between them and their followers.

I am curious as to how you came to your conclusions?

If you believe in the God of the Bible and believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God written through the prophets, it does mention a few times that homosexuality is a sin and homosexuals will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

You are correct to say that God does want to bless and does bless the just and the unjust alike on earth, but in the end you must repent of all sins in order to go to heaven.

Nothing of the above comments which have been said can apply, even with the most distant disrespect, to the real character of Jesus Christ. He was a virtuous and an amiable man. Rowan Cocoan Thomas Jefferson was accused of not being a true "Christian". He answered that he was more a Christian than many who went to church regularly, as he followed the teachings of Jesus, rather than the bible. He re-wrote the new testament using only what he felt that Jesus actually preached. You can buy a copy of Jefferson's Bible. I ordered it through my local independent bookstore. It is a small book, with a forward about the reasons for him doing it. And it makes for very interesting reading.

As it is with anything "ancient" there's a lot of "noise in the signal" and it's difficult to say, with any level of certainty, what's true/false, authentic/forged, etc.

Nevertheless most of the Gnostic/Essene stuff describes a "religion" which is quite different than what we call "Christianity" today.

In particular the changes during the couple centuries between "Romans persecuting Christians" and "Christianity becoming THE Roman religion" are worth looking into.

Shalman: As re the DSS, as I recall, money grubbing 'archaeologists' et al. (now they're mostly grant grubbing) were completely deep into that and I would expect the PTB to have been there damn near with the shepherd boys of legend. I find it interesting because I've only even learned what everyone else considers the absolute basics of Christianity since I first read a combat bible I found on 2001's winter solstice. I generally keep at the 'informed' level on most of this stuff because I don't see where it will improve lives of self and others, as I can't imagine it causing me to change my course.

Read "Jung and the Lost Gospels" at university years ago. [Link] It seemed like a reasonable starting point. Perhaps others have a better suggestion. (Maybe check with the person who has the 'Gnostic' handle? ;>)

It seems anything "historical" is a convoluted mess as even the most "striving to be objective" author can do naught but frame things from their own perspective. It only gets worse from there since, as you point out, there are plenty of individuals willing to outright distort/corrupt/forge history to further their own agenda. (And in between the extremes there is plenty of "sloppy" and "lazy" to be found.)

God knew we would stray and whilst He does not ‘interfere’ His Laws are always in motion and let us know when we have sinned, always to lead us back to love.

As I understand it the Crusaders and some of the Muslim rulers built the first castles there centuries later. The crusaders recognized royalty. As i'm sure you know the are allegorical metaphors that the writers of the old testament took from surrounding cultures(Sumerian,Chaldean,Egypt etc),what they did was a work of 'genius',in that they gave the stories a narrative that affected them individually! As for the New Testament, it is truly a work of Greek genius. Take the 'Peter casting the net' story,it is so jam packed with geometry,math,symbolism but if you don't have the Key,it will remain a rather strange so called 'miracle!' imho Babies and Bathwater spring to mind with some. I don't know of any original bible text scripture that is not either admittedly fake (e.g. Dead Sea scrolls) or a "late medieval copy". Not to forget, Fomenko and others pointed out that the Hebrew script is most probably a medieval invention, too.

I don't personally believe that "incredible flying techniques" were so much on display. Experts who were there said it was a missile painted with airliner insignia which hit the deserted section of the Pentagon, not that a massive commercial airliner made a 270-degree turn, then flew 15 feet aboveground and had its 125' wingspan pass through a 15-foot hole, never to be seen again. The airliners which did appear to strike two buildings were likely remote-controlled, and the ditch in the cornfield with no debris nearby to speak of, is a hoax.

At one point I knew more details but I seem to recall it was heading in the wrong direction, (NW instead of NE) which was an indication the passengers had control, so it got shot down. The other option was that it landed and offloaded the poor goyim, and there certainly were a suspicious crew on that one, also.

Then there was the guy who was on AM radio in NYC who identified the pilot as Lt. Col? X from Nebraska (I forget the name and rank). He had at least one more show scheduled the next morning at another radio, but he died in his hotel room of a very convenient heart attack or stroke. Anyone remember that?

It was what was used in our primary infantry battle rifles, the M1 Garand in WWII, and also used in the Lee-Enfield, et al. in WWI. It's a hard hitting, hard kicking cartridge. The UK used the .303.
