The incident took place at Port of Entry #1 in Nuevo Laredo when a group of about 30 walked to the international bridge and jumped into the vehicle lane in an apparent attempt to cross into Texas and request asylum.
According to Mexican journalists on the ground, the move was met with a show of force from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers who blockaded the bridge and stopped all traffic until the migrants turned around. About two hours later, authorities allowed pedestrians with travel documents into Texas, while migrants were asked to leave the area.
The migrants are believed to be Hondurans from the various caravans who still have not been able to request asylum in the U.S. The recent push in Nuevo Laredo comes days after authorities closed a migrant shelter in Piedras Negras that housed approximately 2,000 at its peak.
Laredo is one of the least secure cities on the southwest border and is the main smuggling corridor for the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas. Most of the region lacks man-made barriers, leaving only the shallow waters of the Rio Grande as the obstacle to enter Texas between ports of entry.

Whether you or I like it or not, all Americans (unless you're a tax resister) have a moral and ethical connection to the people many of us simply write off as "illegals." We paid to terrorize and destroy their nations. Their status as societal and economic refugees on our doorstep is the "blowback" for our illegal and immoral brutality decade after decade after decade in Latin America. I'm guessing many Americans realize this simple fact at some level of their psyche, but few seem to have the moral integrity to be able to consciously consider what it might mean to face this fact. Instead, we buy the latest regime-change propaganda peddled by the same psychopathic war criminal overseeing this mass murder during the 1980's (Elliott Abrams), and its "off to Venezuela" to "bring democracy" with all the lies, torture, and mayhem that would/will entail, untroubled by even a second thought or a pang of conscience. But face the fact that "we" created this refugee crisis? Not on your life. That would require looking into the mirror - something we Americans fear as much as the "vampires" in the old Hollywood movies we use to scare ourselves. Our brothers and sisters in Latin America don't need movies to induce personal terror - not as long as they have us, their northern neighbors teaching torture techniques and training death squad leaders decade after decade to insure the small U.S. friendly oligarchy stay in power and our corporations squeeze every last drop of profit out the poor of Latin America.
I do know there's a correct and lawful way to enter every country on the globe but overwhelming the border and making demands while carrying the flag of the shithole you just left isn't one of them. My grandparents immigrated to the United States in the 1920s through Ellis Island. The spent a week or two in quarantine before being permitted to enter. They learned to speak English, got jobs and worked their asses off. Being permitted into another country is a privilege not a right!
Repeatedly, I met Latinos who were not happy about the direction in their home countries. Did they run to the US? No, they decided to....brace yourselves....EDUCATE themselves! Many of them took me around and showed me their world-class university campuses that resemble many US college campuses. They explained their quest to not only continue perfecting their already-fluent command of English, they also talked about how they were leveraging their education to interact with their government to help make their home country a better place for all to STAY.
I also had the opportunity to meet a lot of my Latino brethren living in the country areas outside of the cities - commonly known as peasants. These peasants live in what we consider makeshift housing, have a family culture which does not value education or upward mobility. What they do have access to are televisions and devices showing them the streets of America paved with gold and how everything in America is "FREE" because Americans are so rich. These are the majority of the illegal aliens - they want whatever we will give them and they will accuse us of being racists, even if we are also Latinos, if we don't give them what they feel they are somehow entitled to obtain at our expense.
It is irresponsible to wag fingers at the American public for the crimes of the American politicians. Who is it you have voted for in the past thirty years who has sought to sincerely stop US warmongering throughout the world?
If we are going to say the illegal aliens are justified in coming here because of US war crimes, then that logic means we must openly admit the current 1.5billion+ world inhabitants who keep telling the UN in annual surveys that they want to go live in the US. When this happens, whats left of the US will collapse from the onslaught of humanity. Then who is served when that occurs? Will you walk around smiling when the government confiscates everything you own because they need to give it to the billion-plus new US immigrants that you said you wanted to come live here?
