Comment: While the issue of homelessness is nuanced, and it isn't desirable for anyone to be pitching up a tent in the middle of the street both for residents and for the homeless, what is clear is that homelessness is no longer solely the problem of those with mental illness or for people unwilling to operate within the established system. The rise in homelessness and poverty is directly correlated with government 'austerity' programs and the collapse of the UK economy, which is why the numbers of those homeless and in poverty but who are actually in work has skyrocketed:
- UK's poverty wages, extortionate rents and austerity: Homeless families who work soars 73% in 5 years
- Record 60% of Britons in poverty are in working families - study
- Income stagnation and rising poverty: Millions of UK families earning less than 15 years ago
- Rough sleepers surge 60% in UK due to government imposed 'austerity' and the failing economy
- UK retailers requesting rent reductions, shutting stores and laying off staff as economy tanks
- UK government to raid 90 year old charity fund to pay off 0.6% of national debt as economy continues to burn
