
The shooter was an employee, who "turned the gun on himself," UPS spokesman Steve Gaut told AP, but he did not have any other information about his condition.
San Francisco police evacuated UPS employees from the building, located on San Bruno Avenue in the Potrero Hill neighborhood. The San Francisco Police Department declared the building secure around 10:30am local time.
The shooter was reportedly transported to the San Francisco General Hospital. The hospital received a total of three patients, according to local media reports. One of them was able to walk on their own.
At least five people were shot, and two were were "medical examiner cases," KNTV reported. It was not clear whether that meant they were deceased.
KNTV later reported that two people died at the scene and two more at the hospital, including the shooter.
"The company is saddened and deeply concerned about affected employees, family members and the community we share," UPS said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all those touched by this incident."
The packaging, sorting and distribution facility has 850 employees, according to UPS. The shooting occurred in an area that is away from where customers pick up and drop off packages.
The San Francisco shooting comes just hours after five people were injured in Alexandria, Virginia, after a gunman attacked the Republican members of Congress who were practicing for an annual charity baseball game.
