This meeting was planned by the EU after more than 800 migrants died on a boat off Libya back in April 2015. One has to repeat this.... "Back in April 2015" so it took the EU 7 months just to set up a meeting, so we can assume it will take a hundred years for the EU to completely solve this problem and by that time Africa would be completely deserted.

Two things came out of this summit in Malta, first it made the life of all those on this small island of Malta where 400,000 people live crammed up on a rock measuring 24kms by 13kms, a nightmare as roads were closed and parking near the capital city Valletta, where thousands work, was nearly impossible. Most arterial roads were closed so EU and African leaders could go around in 47 different cars plus extra vehicles for security, when 2 or 3 buses perhaps could have transported them more efficiently and given them some face time to discuss matters informally whilst enjoying the great weather we are experiencing this week, instead of having them chauffeured around at high speeds with helicopters above their heads as if we were in Iraq or Yemen.

The second one was a wonderful family photo showing all African and EU leaders looking like school children on an outing. Other than that it seems that no solution came out of this summit which probably costs millions of Euro to the Maltese taxpayers.

The so-called leaders seem to have come to the conclusion that they need to send more money to Africa, as if that by itself is going to solve any of the migration problem! Somalia, which is contributing massively to this migration problem, did not send any representatives, probably because members of their present Government including their Prime Minister, if you can call him that, are wanted for international crimes and would have been arrested if they set foot in Malta.

Ironically just as the EU leaders and the African country representatives were in Malta enjoying their holiday, 14 migrants lost their lives whilst trying to reach Europe via Greece.

The president of Niger, a major transition point for migrants, said "On the returning of migrants, we are open to discussion, all depends on the conditions. We also think the topic of legal migration must be discussed."

During this same summit Slovenia started erecting a wall throughout it's border to stop the inflow of migrants, whilst representatives from this same country were here in Malta shaking hands with African self appointed dictators and promising them that they will be part of the solution.
It is more than evident that the EU is powerless, so they just try to look as if they are trying to do something and keep debating and taking pictures together. The situation would be rather funny if it weren't so tragic.
