Taken by the Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC), the images show a unique view of our planet and the moon from one million miles away. The capture of this rare spectacle was made possible due to the orbiting trajectory of the DSCOVR satellite that is positioned between the Sun and the Earth, giving it the capability to see the far side of the moon.
"It is surprising how much brighter Earth is than the moon," said Adam Szabo, DSCOVR project scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. "Our planet is a truly brilliant object in dark space compared to the lunar surface."
The series of images taken on July 16 were compiled into GIF animation that depicts the moon flying over the North America and the Pacific Ocean. The images taken from the satellite's point of view also clearly show the tilt of the Earth, with the North Pole located in the upper left corner.
DSCOVR is meant to serve as an early warning system when harmful solar activity is heading our way. From its position some 1 million miles away, DSCOVR should be able to issue a warning around 15 to 60 minutes before a geomagnetic storm reaches our Planet.
"EPIC maintains a constant view of the fully illuminated Earth as it rotates, providing scientific observations of ozone, vegetation, cloud height and aerosols in the atmosphere," NASA said in the press release.
DSCOVR that was launched in February this year is also designed to gather a range of measurements from ozone and aerosol amounts to changes in Earth's radiation. But one of the satellite's strongest weapons is the EPIC which takes full-color snaps in sets of 10 images using different narrowband filters - from ultraviolet to near infrared.
"Once EPIC begins regular observations next month, the camera will provide a series of Earth images allowing study of daily variations over the entire globe. About twice a year the camera will capture the moon and Earth together as the orbit of DSCOVR crosses the orbital plane of the moon," NASA says.
First images of the "dark side" of the moon, never seen from Earth, were taken by USSR's Luna 3 spacecraft in 1959. Over the decades of scientific research based on images produced by NASA's programs, scientists were able to determine that the far side lacks the large, dark, basaltic plains that are present on the side facing the Earth.

I watched a few times to see no change at all in the cloud/weather patterns. Looks like a static image of Earth to me. Anyone else?
Mr. Szabo, good observation. Not only is it suprising how much brighter the earth is compared to the moon, it's impossible especially since it is 237,000 miles closer. Must be superimposed photoshopped images. Nothing new here just more in your face mockery and money laundering of your tax dollars.

For the last mission they produced the Blue marble images of the "globe" ... mission accomplished, that was the real intention
Right now there is a lot of noise re the flat earth (such as being able to shoot a laser across 4 Miles of water with no variation in height) and as such, it is not a surprise to see NASA releasing some more fake images

There is so much evidence proving that the moon landings (definitely the first one) were staged. One aspect not usually referenced in the moon landing hoax is how Neil Armstrong only flew one practice run in a lunar lander here on earth and on that practice flight he had to eject and nearly died. Yet it was flawlessly done on the moon? Whatever.
When I watched this latest nasa video here of the moon and the earth, my immediate and first thought was that it just looks cheap and fake. I'm not buying it.
I noticed in the recent space travel movie "Interstellar", they mentioned (in the story line) how the USA faked the moon landings to bankrupt the soviets.
I reckon the same people who believe humans went to the moon in 1969 and the 70's are the same type who believe 911 was not a false flag event staged by "them" (The elite, the globalists, the illuminate,...or whatever title you prefer to identify "them") for their selfish and tyrannical agendas.
Perhaps the angle of the sun didn't allow for it but, if the sun was hitting the back of the moon in its entirety, and the moon was in front of the Earth...wouldn't there be an eclipse somewhere in the equation? As for the movement of weather patterns, look at a weather loop on any weather site/app and the clouds move noticeably over the course of a few hours. NASA said it's an animation so it must be a fabricated simulation. The photo "may" be real but the movement of the moon across the Earth is simulated.
The only "real" image they have produced are those allegedly taken from inside a space capsule behind thick glass
