Police say there may be a second person of interest involved in a shooting that left three people dead and a woman in critical condition.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal confirmed that four people were shot in a house at 8286 Adams St. (450 West) in Midvale Tuesday. Police received a call about 8 a.m. either during or immediately after the shooting from within the residence.

"When they got here, they found three victims confirmed deceased at this residence. One was transported to the hospital, also having received wounds from a shooting as well," said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

Details on the exact nature of the shooting have not been released.

Police named David Fresques, 25, as a person of interest and said they were also looking for a second man. Both were suspected of being at the house earlier today. Hoyal did not have a description of the second man, but based on interviews with witnesses and neighbors, detectives believe two men may have been present.

"He very well could be a suspect, could be just a witness," Hoyal said of Fresques.

Officers located a vehicle that matched that description at the Motel 6, 7263 S Catalpa Road, about 10 a.m. but had not confirmed it belongs to Fresques.

Police officers were knocking on each door and the motel and conducting sweeps through each room looking for the two men.

Roughly 70 officers and bloodhounds were going door to door looking for Fresques in the area Tuesday morning.

At least one neighbor said there was frequent short-term traffic at the house consistently.

Investigators were also working on obtaining a search warrant to thoroughly go through the house where the shootings occurred.

Police said the residence has a known history with narcotics. Hoyal said police served a narcotics-related warrant within "recent weeks."

According to Utah state court records, Fresques was sentenced to one to 15 years at the Utah State Prison in 2007 for robbery and simple assault. Most recently, he was charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication in September. At that time, the court listed his address as a Main Street residence in Midvale, not far from the shooting scene.

Fresques' criminal record also includes convictions for forgery in 2011 in which he was sentenced to one year in jail; forgery and a weapons violation in 2007; criminal trespassing on school property and possession of drug paraphernalia in another 2007 case in which he was sentenced to six months in jail; illegally carrying a concealed weapon in 2006; and disorderly conduct, also in 2006.

Several schools in Midvale were placed on self-imposed lockdown as a result of the shooting, including Midvale Elementary, Midvale Middle School, Copper View Elementary, Midvalley Elementary, Sandy Elementary, Jordan Valley Elementary, and East Sandy Elementary.

About 10:15 a.m., all lockdowns were lifted.

"We feel like right now the possibility of the suspects going to the school, the children are safe and we don't need the lockdown in place," the lieutenant said.

The lockdowns were for precaution and there was "no inherent threat to the schools," Hoyal said.
