At least 44 people were injured and tens of thousands of homes were left without power as Typhoon Haikui made its way across Taiwan, authorities said.
The storm made landfall along the southeastern coastal township of Donghe at about 3:40 p.m. local time, Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau said. The storm crossed the island and then left land at at 8 p.m.
At least 7,113 people across 11 cities and counties were evacuated, according to Taiwan's Interior Ministry.
State electricity provider Taipower said 48,506 households were without power as of 10 p.m. local time.

Yuma, La Paz and Mohave counties were all under Flash Flood Warnings on Saturday. Video shared from a Yuma neighborhood showed streets flooded from overnight storms.
Yuma in particular saw several inches of rain, with the city getting up to four inches in two hours.

Continuous rains in Sri Lanka's capital Colombo have created flood-like conditions. Due to four days of rain, many areas of Colombo were submerged on Sunday. Super-4 matches are to be held there from Saturday. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is thinking about changing the schedule of Super-4.
If the situation remains similar in Colombo then this match can be shifted to Pallekele Stadium in Dambulla or Kandy. However, the league match played between India and Pakistan in Pallekele on Saturday was also canceled due to rain. It was drizzling here the whole day even on Sunday. The match between India and Nepal on Monday in this stadium is also under the shadow of rain.
Torrential rain and severe flooding have wreaked havoc in the Black Sea region, prompting urgent responses from local authorities.

Severe flash flooding swept through areas of northwester Algeria after heavy rainfall from 02 to 03 September 2023. Authorities report at least 8 people have lost their lives as a result.
Several people were reported missing in Tlemcen and El Bayadh Provinces. Civil Protection teams using sniffer dogs and special equipment were deployed to the area and carried out extensive searches.
As of late 03 September, Civil Protection confirmed that 4 people died inside a vehicle swept away by the flooding Wadi Dalia in Bab Al-Assa municipality in Tlemcen Province.

Flash floods have caused severe flooding on the iconic Las Vegas Strip this weekend.
Fast moving thunderstorms and heavy rain hit the city and surrounding southern Nevada on Friday leaving cars stranded and thousands without electricity.
By Friday evening, more than 2 inches of rain had fallen in the Rhodes Ranch are, and over 1.5 inches was recorded at South Point and at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard.
Las Vegas recorded 0.88 inches Friday, which is nearly three times their entire September monthly average and was their wettest September day in 11 years.
By Friday evening more than 4,000 people were without power in the Las Vegas Valley, as a result of 30 outages, according to NV Energy.

As many as 12 persons were killed in extreme thunderstorms and lightning activities across Odisha on September 2, informed the Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office on Sunday.
Sharing the information on its official X handle, the office of the SRC informed that the highest number of deaths were reported from Khurdha district where four people died, two in Bolangir, and one each casualty was reported from Angul, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri districts yesterday.
Apart from the loss of human lives, eight cattle also died in extreme thunderstorms and lightning activities in Gajapati and Kandhamal districts.
In the first eight months of 2023, there were more than 100 lightning strikes that killed and injured more than 100 people, nearly 90 cattle, and destroyed nearly 10 houses.
According to Soth Kim Kolmony, spokesman for the National Committee for Disaster Management, there were 109 lightning strikes in 22 provinces, except Kep, Koh Kong, and Mondulkiri, from January to August this year, killing 64 people and injuring 49; 88 cattle were killed; and nine houses were set on fire.
He stated that there were 250 gusts around the country during the first eight months of this year, causing 1,930 houses to fall and 12,501 roofs to open, 77 market stalls, 88 schools, and 38 administrative buildings to collapse, killing nine people and wounding 157 others.
A waterspout was spotted swirling off the coast of Florida near Panama City Beach on Thursday, August 31. Becky Norton provided the footage and told Storyful her boyfriend, who is a surfer and paddleboarder, spotted the weather phenomenon while at St Andrews State Park checking out the waves.
