Legend of "Lechuza" Possibly Seen In Carrizo Springs, Texas

The legend of the "Lechuza" has been told in this area for years.

Now, a recent picture has sparked a discussion about whether the picture is real. The picture believed to have been taken in Carrizo Springs shows two men holding a white owl with a very large wing span.

Our Lauren Kendrick has more in our top story.

The picture has definitely got people interested whether or not they believe in the myth. We spoke to one of the owners of Petland who tells us this picture has her baffled when it comes to classifying the type of owl.

"I think people would like to believe it's real just like they'd like to believe big foot's real and the loch ness monster and all the other creatures."

Owner of Petland Laredo, Laura Hatton, gives us her take on the picture that's been circulating social networking sites for the past few days.

The picture was taken in Carrizo Springs.

Many people are calling the big white bird "Lechuza" from the urban legend commonly told in the Mexican heritage where the spirit of a woman or a witch turns into an owl.

"Those wives tales are there for a reason. They are a legend. Perhaps there at one time was a much larger species of an owl that was here."

UFO sightings in Canada are on the rise

UFO sightings in Canada neared a record high last year, while Manitoba reported its third-highest number of cases ever in the province.

According to a report released Tuesday by Ufology Research, which has studied unidentified flying objects in this country since 1989, there were 986 sightings across the country in 2011 - or almost three per day. The national record for a single year is 1,004 sightings, set in 2008.

Ontario led the country in sightings, with 406. B.C. and Alberta placed a distant second and third.

"Ontario is getting more of the share of the UFO reports every year. There used to be an emphasis on the west, in some of our earlier reports," Chris Rutkowski, the national Ufology group's research director, said in Winnipeg on Tuesday.

"But now it seems to be distributed a little better."

Manitoba reported 81 UFO sightings, 18 of which occurred in Winnipeg.

In Manitoba, said Rutkowski, "we didn't have any that made us scratch our heads," though he cited at least one interesting report from last Dec. 12 about 3:30 p.m., south of Winnipeg.

Mysterious force blocks car remotes

A busy stretch of Yonkers Avenue has become a Bermuda Triangle for parked cars.

For at least six months now, business owners here say a mysterious force has been locking people with keyless remotes out of their vehicles or preventing them from starting their engines near Yonkers and Page avenues.

But the cars revive after they are pushed or towed away.

An expert hired to investigate the problem said Monday that localized radio interference is to blame for disrupting the signals sent from keyless remotes, but he still was trying to pinpoint the exact source of the signal.

"It's not a common phenomenon," said David Maxson, a radio-frequency communications specialist and owner of Isotrope in Medfield, Mass. "I only get a handful of these quirky types of complaints every year."

Comment: According to a radio-frequency communications specialist, "it appears that an malfunctioning device in the area is sending out a more powerful, continuous signal that drowns out others." But what if the device is quite functional and no less powerful? Read the following articles to learn more:

Unusual object filmed circling over Michoacan, Mexico

Comment: Something was caught on film over Michoacan, Mexico. Whether it is a drone or something other is not known. So, at this point, it would be an unidentified flying object (UFO).

Phantom black dog still around in 2001 in Denmark

The phantom black dog is a common folkloric motif and the most famous example is probably the black dog of Bungay.
The story took place in August 4th 1577 and it resulted in two people being killed in Bungay church where they were shelterting from a storm. Damage was also done to the church, many were injured and the dog reappeared 12 miles away where it killed others. This Suffolk based story is one of many from the UK and it is often said that the dog (Black Shuck as he is sometimes known) presages a death.

All very well and interesting but most black dog stories are old. So imagine my delight when I received an email from Lars Munk Sørensen, telling of his own recent sighting. I reproduce the email below:-

UFO sightings by many in South Carolina

For years, people have said there's other forms of life in the world, and recently strange lights and unknown objects in our area have some questioning that very thing.

After Joe Kiernan's story aired on NewsChannel 15, where he claimed he saw lights flashing in the sky, several people contacted the newsroom saying they saw the same thing.

Some even contacted Kiernan.

"They were just as confused," said Kiernan. "Almost as if they were looking to me for answers."

Those looking for answers included Bill Barrett.

"It's beyond logic," said Barrett who posted on our Facebook page about seeing the same lights as Kiernan. "You're watching it, and you're saying this makes no sense."

UFO sightings are up in Australia

UFO sightings in Australia are on the rise, and international studies indicate a growing number of 'closet believers' of extraterrestrial life, according to people who track such phenomena.

But people who come forward to report sightings are still pilloried by much of society.

The issue emerged again last week after a video of an alleged UFO sighting over the NSW south coast was posted on YouTube and raised a few sceptics' eyebrows.

It was no surprise to UFO investigator Doug Moffett, who has been delving into the authenticity of sightings across Australia for more than 20 years.

"That's the way it is usually treated in the media - like this fun topic to laugh at, rather than being treated as a scientific possibility," the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.
