Herbs for boosting your brain power & rebuilding neuronal connections

brain boosting herbs
The quality of your life is in large part a function of the health of your brain. From the more basic (but no less astounding) operations of maintaining the intricate balance of the biological network that is your body to the more sophisticated functions of perception, awareness, imagination and thought, the brain is central to your experience—and quality—of life.

And yet, life in our modern societies seems to be working, in many ways, against brain health. Powerful neurotoxins are contained in our food and emitted as gases from the myriad of synthetic materials used in houses, cars, clothes and so on. The bright, artificial lights of computer screens and cellphones alter delicate circadian neurotransmitter balances by overstimulating our optic nerves after dark. Our foods have often times been grown in devitalized soils and then further processed and packaged, robbing our bodies of essential vitamins and minerals—literally the fuel for our brains.

Ancient healing traditions: Science finally proves meridians exist

merdians
"In every culture and in every medical tradition before ours, healing was accomplished by moving energy." - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, Biochemist and Nobel Prize Winner.
For centuries the ancient wisdom keepers and healers in several traditions had a keen understanding of the energetic body. The healing traditions from China, India, Japan and Tibet, as well as other countries all spoke of energy channels, meridians or nadis along which the vital energy flowed.

Life was considered to be a bio-electrical and vibrational energy phenomenon and so health revolved around balancing energy through various means. Life existed because of life force and energy running through and animating the body, ensuring we can move, breathe, digest food, think and even feel.

Nutritionally-enhanced genetically modified crops? Too bad deformed butterflies are a result

deformed butterflies
© PLOS OneCabbage white butterfly with deformed wings (pinned to an insect board) that was fed an experimental diet enriched with long chain omega-3 fatty acids, 48 hours after emergence.
It looked like such a good idea: take the pressure off wild fish stocks by growing GM oilseeds that produce health-enhancing long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, writes Claire Robinson. But as a new study has established, those fish oils, novel in terrestrial ecosystems, cause wing deformities in cabbage white butterflies. Yet a third open field trial of these GM crops could soon be under way.

In humans, long-chain omega-3 fatty acids are important for heart health, brain development and function, and the immune system.

They are naturally found in oily fish and algae. Many people take supplements of omega-3 oils produced in algae to boost their health status and alleviate allergies, arthritis and other diseases.

Toxic chemicals in shampoo and beauty products are not regulated by the FDA

toxic beauty products, toxic shampoo
You may be happy to know that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) prohibits the use of mercury, chloroform and nine other substances in your shampoo, soap and other personal care products.

That is, until you learn that the European Union prohibits the use of more than 1,300 substances in their personal care products.

The FDA's paltry restriction of just 11 substances is even more ridiculous considering there are nearly 13,000 chemicals used in cosmetics, and only about 10 percent have been evaluated for safety.

Although the FDA has the authority to regulate harmful ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products, it typically doesn't, preferring instead to rely on the products' manufacturers to regulate themselves.

If customers claim that a product has caused them harm, however, the companies are not required to report such claims to the FDA. And in the event that a product is deemed to be harmful, the FDA can't even order a recall.1

Vaccine paradigm takes another Hollywood hit: Actor Aidan Quinn says vaccination caused his daughter's autism

HPV vaccine
The house of cards may be falling around the "vaccines are totally safe and effective" lie that's traditionally been propped up in part by the Hollywood establishment.

First Robert De Niro backpeddled on censoring a documentary on the CDC whistleblower from the Tribeca Film Festival, going public about changing his mind on the matter, and now actor Aidan Quinn has gone on the record in an interview to say he believes his daughter was a normal, healthy child until she got vaccines.

Afterwards, he says she became autistic.

Comment: The CDC will never produce a study that is not supported and funded by Big Pharma proving that vaccines are safe. They will only continue to buckle down and force vaccines on everyone despite all the evidence of their link to autism.

Can we have an honest disagreement in a pro-vaccine world?

© Fearless Parent
We received a comment from "Anonymous" in response to a recent post who expressed dismay that she had to rely on other parents to vaccinate their children in order to keep her immunocompromised daughter with Selective IgA Deficiency safe.

I was moved to respond. And then I hesitated.

Is Anonymous a real mom?

This may sound like a cold question but our savvy readers know that the CDC and other pro-vaccine stakeholders routinely pay "mommy bloggers" with our tax dollars to write (and comment) about the benefits and advantages of vaccination. Here's an ad circulating last month from Megan Media:

vaccines
Pro-vaccine propaganda for pay, brought to you by the CDC
Megan Calhoun of Megan Media was a "public relations executive at leading firms where she specialized in healthcare." After making the social media rounds via outraged parents, this ad is no longer accessible to the general public but others will surface. It's just one of countless such opportunities. You can also read a 2011 CDC presentation about their mommy blogging program.

Whether this mom is real doesn't matter because the message — that all children must be vaccinated to protect the immunocompromised — has been so avidly promoted by pro-vaccine interests that scores of parents believe it to be true.

So let's assume that she's real.

Dear Anonymous. You're not alone.

My heart is with you and I'm saddened to read about your daughter's pain.

Our readers include countless parents whose children have a wide range of pediatric chronic, autoimmune, neurological, and developmental conditions. In fact, most parents can relate to your family's situation with empathy, not just sympathy, because sick kids have become the new normal. And many of these children, like your daughter, have some form of immune dysregulation. They navigate their worlds — whether socializing, learning, communicating, eating, sleeping, exercising, and/or breathing — with difficulty and oftentimes at significant personal risk.

When we say that we feel your pain, we truly do. It's terrifying.

There's a temptation to think in terms of right and wrong, to take sides and dig in. Rather than framing the issue in terms of "you versus me," it's really just us. If we speak to each other, mom to mom, I know we'll find that we care about the same things: healthy children, a healthy society, a hopeful and bright future.

Vitamin N: How living closer to nature is good for you

Living closer to nature is better for your health, new research suggests — and may even extend your life.

A study just published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives found that people who live in "greener" areas, with more vegetation around, have a lower risk of mortality. The health benefits are likely thanks to factors such as improved mental health, social engagement and physical activity that come with living near green spaces.

The research relied on data from a vast long-term Harvard study funded by the National Institutes of Health called the Nurses' Health Study, which has collected health information biennially on more than 100,000 female registered nurses in the U.S. since 1976. The new paper analyzed participant data from between 2000 and 2008, taking note of any deaths that occurred and their causes. At the same time, the researchers used satellite data to assess the amount of green vegetation surrounding each participant's home during the study period.

How coconut oil may be an alternative fuel for the brain

Coconut oil and the brain
Dr. Mary Newport has a theory that ketone bodies, which the body makes when digesting coconut oil, may be an alternative fuel for the brain. She believes that coconut oil may offer profound benefits in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. If her theory is accurate, it could be one of the greatest natural health discoveries in years.

Drugs in our vegetables!? The consequences of irrigating with treated wastewater

pharmeceuticals-to-vegetables

A new study by a multidisciplinary team of researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Hadassah Medical Center shows that eating vegetables and fruits grown in soils irrigated with reclaimed wastewater exposes consumers to minute quantities of carbamazepine, an anti-epileptic drug commonly detected in wastewater effluents.

Comment: This study serves as a window into what can be expected if the mishandling of wastewater is allowed to continue. Carbamazepeen, classed as an anitconvulsant, is used to treat seizures by inhibiting "abnormal" electrical activity in the brain. As per usual, the side-effects list contain physical and psychological ailments that would be unpleasant at best even if you were to expect them under a therapeutic dose.

What is there to be gained from the "reclaiming" of wastewater if it results in vegetables, and possibly other foodstuffs, that contain pharmaceutical drugs?

HPV is a killer vaccine

Vaccine
So often we hear about how the benefits of vaccines "outweigh the risks" of disease, but for parents dealing with a child who has been severely vaccine injured, this statement can be seen as a menace to their unimaginable pain.

The HPV vaccines (Gardasil and Cervarix) are among the most controversial of the current vaccine schedule. The source of this controversy is the alarming number of adverse reactions being reported, such as the one seen in the video below.

While defenders of HPV vaccines commonly argue that no link can be clearly defined between the number of adverse reactions reported to VAERS and the Gardasil/Cervarix vaccine, many remain unconvinced of its innocence, especially when an otherwise healthy child begins exhibiting injury symptoms immediately after receiving the vaccine.
