The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (Phang Nga Office) reported that on October 22 2025, continuous heavy rainfall hit Ban Bang Ha On in Khuk Khak subdistrict, Takua Pa district, Phang Nga province, triggering flash floods from the Khao Lak mountain range.
The sudden deluge inundated Khao Lak Centre, a popular shopping and leisure area, just as hundreds of Thai and foreign tourists were dining and shopping. Panic ensued as people rushed to safety.
Floodwaters, carrying red mud, overflowed from nearby canals and surged through the heart of Khao Lak's tourist zone for more than 800 metres, reaching one metre deep in some places. The strong current stalled several small cars and motorbikes, while Phetkasem Road became impassable on both sides, causing traffic jams over a kilometre long.
The number of flood victims in Perak, Kedah, and Penang has surged, with a total of 4,252 people relocated to temporary relief centres.
There were 2,496 victims from 857 families in Perak, with Kerian and Perak Tengah districts the latest to be flooded.
State officials said 24 relief centres were operational in the state.
In Kedah, the number of flood victims increased to 1,007 this evening, compared to 258 this morning. Four new relief centres were opened in the Kulim district, bringing the total to seven.
In Penang, eight relief centres have been set up to house 749 victims in Seberang Perai Utara, 121 victims in Seberang Perai Tengah, and 22 in Barat Daya district on the island.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) deployed 666 personnel and 277 vehicles to respond to severe flooding that struck Izmir's Foca district on Thursday, as rescue teams continued searching for a 70-year-old man swept away by floodwaters.
AFAD Head Ali Hamza Pehlivan said search and rescue operations remained ongoing in Yeni Foca's Bucak district, where the man's vehicle was swept into a stream during the flooding.
"We have not yet reached our citizen," Pehlivan said, noting that divers from AFAD, police, gendarmerie and coast guard units continued searching using coastal search methods.
"The emergency response came after approximately 144 kilograms of rain fell per square meter within 1.5 hours on Thursday afternoon in Foca," according to Pehlivan.
The 112 Emergency Call Center received 207 emergency reports related to flooding, water inundation and people trapped in vehicles or buildings.
Twenty-seven pilot whales have died after they became stranded on a remote stretch of Northland coastline on Monday.
They were discovered on Twilight Beach (Paenga Rehia), about 11km south of Cape Rēinga, that is part of the popular Te Paki Coastal Track and the first leg of Te Araroa.

In our current outbreak, nearly all of our Great Lakes could see these whirling funnels of air and mist develop. The current forecast shows they are more likely to spin up over Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
A 75-year-old farmer was killed and another was seriously injured in separate stray bull attacks in Mainpuri district on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.
Bhagwandas Shakya, a resident of Nagla Pancham Ramnagar village under Kishni police station, was returning home from his agri field when the bull attacked him. Villagers rushed to his aid and drove the animal away. He was taken to Etawah for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Kishni SHO Lalit Bhati confirmed the incident. The deceased's grandson, Amit Shakya, said, "The bull brutally attacked my grandfather and he suffered severe injuries on his neck. He was taken to Etawah govt hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival."
On the same evening around 7pm, Baba Yadav, 55, of Saidpur village suffered serious injuries after he was gored by a bull on his way back home from his field. He was taken to Saifai Medical College and is in critical condition.

At least seven people were injured after being attacked by a rouge monkey in Joda area of Odisha's Keonjhar district on Monday, creating panic among residents in the area.
As per information, the rogue monkey went on a rampage, attacking several people and creating widespread fear among locals. At least seven people have sustained injuries in separate incidents over the past two days. While five individuals were injured on Sunday, two more were attacked on Monday.
Locals said the monkey has been entering houses, chasing people, and biting them without provocation. The situation has become so alarming that many villagers are now afraid of moving out of their houses.
After being attacked by the monkey, a victim said the animal has gone berserk and bit him on the waist and abdomen. The monkey attacked him after breaking into his house.
Sources said the Forest Department has been informed about the monkey menace as locals seek swift action to capture the animal to prevent any further attack on people.
