Mount Raung in East Java erupts

Raung Volcano
Raung Volcano
Mount Raung in East Java suddenly erupted on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 17:19 western Indonesian time or WIB, spewing ash clouds as high as 1,500 meters above the peak to the west and northwest direction.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) official Oktory Prambada said the eruption was not caused by magma movement activity. "It happened in 540 seconds," he said to Tempo on Thursday, July 28, 2022

According to him, the ash column was not dense which indicated that the eruption occurred only on the surface, and it was considered a small eruption. "It's just a release of energy or degassing," he added.

New surface stations report released - It's 'worse than we thought'

MEDIA ADVISORY: 96% OF U.S. CLIMATE DATA IS CORRUPTED

Official NOAA temperature stations produce corrupted data due to purposeful placement in man-made hot spots

Nationwide study follows up widespread corruption and heat biases found at NOAA stations in 2009, and the heat-bias distortion problem is even worse now

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL (July 27, 2022) - A new study, Corrupted Climate Stations: The Official U.S. Surface Temperature Record Remains Fatally Flawed, finds approximately 96 percent of U.S. temperature stations used to measure climate change fail to meet what the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) considers to be "acceptable" and uncorrupted placement by its own published standards.

The report, published by The Heartland Institute, was compiled via satellite and in-person survey visits to NOAA weather stations that contribute to the "official" land temperature data in the United States. The research shows that 96% of these stations are corrupted by localized effects of urbanization - producing heat-bias because of their close proximity to asphalt, machinery, and other heat-producing, heat-trapping, or heat-accentuating objects. Placing temperature stations in such locations violates NOAA's own published standards (see section 3.1 at this link), and strongly undermines the legitimacy and the magnitude of the official consensus on long-term climate warming trends in the United States.

"With a 96 percent warm-bias in U.S. temperature measurements, it is impossible to use any statistical methods to derive an accurate climate trend for the U.S." said Heartland Institute Senior Fellow Anthony Watts, the director of the study. "Data from the stations that have not been corrupted by faulty placement show a rate of warming in the United States reduced by almost half compared to all stations."

NOAA's "Requirements and Standards for [National Weather Service] Climate Observations" instructs that temperature data instruments must be "over level terrain (earth or sod) typical of the area around the station and at least 100 feet from any extensive concrete or paved surface." And that "all attempts will be made to avoid areas where rough terrain or air drainage are proven to result in non-representative temperature data." This new report shows that instruction is regularly violated.

At least six people were killed in floods near Tehran Thursday, most in a landslide that dumped mud four metres deep in a village west of the capital, emergency services said.

The flash flooding near the capital, in the foothills of the Alborz mountains, comes less than a week after floods in the normally arid south of Iran left 22 people dead.

Footage from the village of Emamzadeh Davoud posted on social media showed a teenager caked in mud clinging to a pole as a roaring spate of debris-filled water rushes past him. A wall is seen collapsing moments later.

Woman mauled to death by family pit bull on Long Island, New York

PIT BULL ATTACK
A Long Island woman was killed and her body found mutilated in her backyard after she was attacked by a dog that belonged to her step-son, who died just weeks ago, according to police.

After leaving for work Wednesday morning, the woman's husband returned to the home on Terrace Court in Albertson around 1 p.m. to find his 70-year-old wife mangled and mauled in the backyard, the pit bull still going at her body, police said.

The man called police, and an officer who responded to the scene shot the dog after the canine turned and charged at him. The officer was taken to the hospital, police said, traumatized after what he had seen in the yard.

Magnitude-6.2 earthquake occurs in northern Chile

MAPS
Magnitude-6.2 earthquake occurs in northern Chile at around 14:58 July 27. No immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Event

A magnitude-6.2 earthquake occurred in northern Chile at 14:58 July 27. The epicenter was about 56 km (35 miles) northeast from the city of Calama. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 99 km (62 miles), and light-to-moderate shaking was probably felt throughout the Arica y Parinatoca, Tarapaca, and Antofagasta regions of Chile, the Jujuy and Salta provinces of Argentina, and the Potosi department of Bolivia.

There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake; however, minor damage is possible in areas close to the epicenter. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Light and moderate aftershocks are likely over the coming days.

People in a southwestern Japanese city have come under attack from monkeys that are trying to snatch babies, biting and clawing at flesh, and sneaking into nursery schools.

The attacks — on 58 people since July 8 — are getting so bad Yamaguchi city hall hired a special unit to hunt the animals with tranquilizer guns.

The monkeys aren't interested in food, so traps haven't worked. They have targeted mostly children and the elderly.
