A woman has described the moment she was bitten by a giant eel while sunbathing at a beach in Hawaii.

Kristen Porter was lounging on a floatie off of Kuhio Beach on the afternoon of July 29 when she felt something bite her.

'My feet were dangling down and I was there for hours, so I was completely surprised that all of a sudden something attacked my foot,' the mom vacationing from Annapolis, Maryland, told KHON.

'I couldn't believe it, but I knew immediately that it was something bad, and it wasn't just like a fish nibble, so I pulled my foot into the air and there was blood everywhere.'

Porter's son and two other beachgoers helped her to the shore, where a lifeguard examined the wound and told her she'd been bitten by an eel.

Millions panic as second powerful earthquake in a week hits Lombok, Indonesia - 91 reported dead (Update)

indonesia earthquake lombok 2018

The death toll rose to 39 after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake rocked the Indonesian island of Lombok and nearby Bali on Sunday, damaging buildings, sending terrified residents and tourists running into the streets and triggering a brief tsunami warning.

The head of disaster management in Indonesia's West Nusa Tenggara province, Muhammad Rum, announced the death toll - which could rise further as search and rescue operations continue.

Social media posts from the scene showed debris piled on streets and sidewalks. Hospital patients, many still in their beds, were rolled out onto streets as a safeguard against structural damage to the hospital buildings.

"Back in the house now. That was an attention getter," tweeted @Bali_chris. "Strongest quake we've felt in the 13 years we've been here. Much stronger than the last one in Lombok that we felt in Bali. Hope everyone in Lombok is safe."

Comment: Earthquake Track relays information stating that it occurred at a shallow depth of 10kms.

UPDATE: The Daily Star (UK) on July 6th reports:
A MASSIVE 7.0 magnitude earthquake has killed at least 91 people after rocking the Indonesian island of Bali, sparking fears of a tsunami.

The powerful quake is 7.0 on the Richter scale - prompting terrified holidaymakers at the tourist hotspot to scramble for safety.

Model Chrissy Teigen, who is on holiday on the island with husband John Legend, told her 10.6million Twitter fans how she walked outside naked clutching her newborn baby Miles as the tremor hit.

She tweeted: "Bali. Trembling. So long.

"MASSIVE earthquake."

"It felt like a ride. 15 solid seconds of "hooooooly s**t this is happening."

"I very calmly walked outside saying clutching baby saying 'I'm naked. I'm naked. I'm naked' like a naked zombie".
