Dartmouth, Nova Scotia just got rocked by 2 rare earthquakes in a row

Dartmouth earthquake
It's been a shaky couple of days for Dartmouth. A Nova Scotia earthquake rocked the region not once, but twice in the same community less than two days apart. These seismic events are not common for the region and have left some residents baffled.

At 12:24 a.m. on March 3, a 2.6 magnitude earthquake rattled Dartmouth, just east of Halifax.

According to Global News, Halifax Regional Police got multiple calls from people in the area reporting their homes shaking and sounds similar to explosions.

Nick Ackerley, a seismologist with Natural Resources Canada, told Global News that events like this produce seismic waves when moving through solid rock and that can create the loud sounds that people hear.

Thankfully, no injuries or property damage was reported by emergency services that responded to the calls from residents.

This event comes less than two days after another earthquake shook that exact same part of Nova Scotia.

On March 1 at 8:38 p.m., a 2.6 magnitude quake was also felt by people in Dartmouth.

Having one seismic event in the Halifax region isn't something that happens often, let alone two within 30 hours of each other.

Ackerley said that the area is pretty far from any tectonic plate edges that could be rubbing together so these earthquakes are out of the ordinary.

Probe launched after 86 dolphins die on beach
Namibia said on Monday that 86 dusky dolphins, including two calves just days old, had been found dead on a remote beach and it had launched an investigation into what happened.

Marine biologist Kolette Grobler estimated that the mammals had been dead for about a week before they were found on Friday by commercial lobster fishermen at Hottentot Bay, some 40 km (25 miles) north of the southwestern coastal town of Luderitz.

"We suspect that one of them was injured or got sick and called on the others for help, and this might have caused them to accidentally beach themselves," Grobler said.

I wounder if its anything to do with the intensifying Grand Solar Minimum and this years crops not being planted in Asia and wet again in the USA. Third year of above average snow fall across the N. Two earthquakes rock western Indonesia, scores injured, houses damaged

Indonesia quake
Two earthquakes with magnitude of 5.8 and 4.9 jolted western part of Indonesia province on Tuesday (March 10), leaving scores of people wounded and several houses destroyed, officials said.

The latest quake struck at 9.06pm (1406 GMT) with the epicentre at 88km southeast of Enggano Island in Bengkulu province, and the depth at 48km under the seabed, said Prio Budi, an official at the country's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.

The intensity of the quake was felt at IV MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity) in Lampung province's village of Liwa, the official disclosed.

"With that strong intensity, there should be damages resulted by the jolts," he told Xinhua by phone.

Earlier, a 4.9-magnitude quake struck at 5.8pm (1018 GMT) with the epicentre at 13km northeast of Sukabumi district in West Java province and the shallow of 10km under the seabed, the official said, citing that the agency previously released a report on a 5.0-magnitude quake on the same day.

The intensity of the quake was felt at IV to V MMI in the province's areas of Ciambar, Cidahu, Kelapa Nunggal, and II to III MMI in Citeko, he said.
