Woman killed by leopard in a district of Uttar Pradesh, India - 4th victim in 12 days, 36th in last 30 months

A 36-year-old woman, Meera Devi, was killed in a leopard attack at Issepur village near Najibabad town here Sunday. This is the fourth fatal attack suspectedly by the same animal in the past 12 days, and the 36th in the last two-and-a-half years in the district.

Angry villagers took the body to the office of Najibabad divisional forest officer (DFO) and held a protest, demanding immediate capture of the felines. Police swiftly arrived and pacified the crowd.

Meera Devi was collecting fodder in her field when the leopard emerged from a nearby sugarcane field and pounced on her. Her husband and children, who were working nearby, rushed to her rescue, but by the time they arrived, Meera succumbed to her injuries, and the leopard disappeared. Sub-divisional forest officer Gyan Singh confirmed the incident, stating, "We have found pugmarks of the leopard. We are trying to track it down.

This is the fourth such incident within a radius of 3km."

Crows have been swooping on people in Tampines on a daily basis, and residents believe the feathered fowls may be retaliating after their nests were removed.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the incidents occurred between Tampines Street 42 and 43, where several passers-by said they were attacked and scratched on their heads.

Resident had bumps and blood on her head

A resident of Block 443, who only wished to be known as Ms Luo, 42, told Shin Min she was attacked while returning home on Sept 12 at around 7pm.

She recounted that as she was crossing the road, a crow clawed at her head while another pecked her shoulder.

"I was shocked and frightened. I screamed loudly and ran across the road. Luckily, the crows didn't continue chasing me," she said.

A tornado swept through San Juan County in southeastern Utah on Saturday afternoon, destroying multiple homes and triggering an official Tornado Warning.

Videos shared with FOX 13 News showed what appeared to be a large tornado south of Blanding in the Cahone Mesa area.

Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren said there were around 15-20 homes in the area, then later gave an update that three were destroyed. However, he said no injuries have been reported.

Nygren said the American Red Cross is helping anyone who needs emergency shelter, and there are 25 - 30 cots available at the Montezuma Creek Elementary School. He added that the local Chapter House is helping displaced residents to find hotel accommodations.

Sudden severe hailstorm hits Beijing, China

A sudden hailstorm caught people off guard in Beijing on Saturday evening.

Heavy rain and lightning were also reported across multiple districts, with Damozhuang Village in Mentougou District recording the highest precipitation at 31.1 millimeters.

The municipal government has issued a yellow alert for lightning, and several districts such as Dongcheng, Xicheng, Haidian, and Chaoyang have issued yellow alerts for hailstorms.

Weather authorities forecast that a scattered thunderstorm will move across the capital from west to east, with brief downpours and high winds expected in some areas.

China uses a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe level, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.

Elderly woman killed by wild boar in Odisha, India

A 65-year-old woman died after being allegedly attacked by a wild boar in Ganjam district's Dongri village on Friday evening.

The deceased, identified as Padmabati Polai, had gone to her farm when she was allegedly attacked by the animal. Family members found her body in the farm with injury marks during a search after she did not return home.

Suspecting she might have died due to a wild boar attack, they informed forest officials and took her to the hospital at Polasara where doctors declared her dead.

Divisional forest officer (DFO) of Ghumusar South, Vipasha Parul, said the exact cause of death would be ascertained after conducting a post-mortem.

Her family members have appealed to the forest officials for compensation, citing she was killed by a wild animal. "We will initiate the process of compensation as soon as possible as per govt guidelines, after getting the inquiry report," said the DFO.
It is the first time that a wild boar killed a woman in the area, locals claimed.

Streets, basements and businesses were flooded after a torrential rainstorm hammered the southern Manitoba city of Steinbach on Thursday night.

Vehicles were left stranded in sudden lakes as the city was hit with 103 millimetres of rain in just four hours and 135 mm by the time it stopped, according to Environment Canada.

That's the equivalent of two months' worth of rain for that city, 40 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.

La Broquerie (10 km east of Steinbach) and Niverville (20 km south of Winnipeg) also reported well over 100 mm.

"It was pouring like you can't believe," said Steinbach Coun. Bill Hiebert. "I had a call at 3 a.m. from a resident saying he had three feet of water in his basement."

It was worse for the Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue building, which took in almost two metres of water, vice-president Graham Pollock said.

3-month-old baby and 5-year-old girl killed in wolf attacks in Uttar Pradesh, India

At-least two girls were killed and two others, including a woman injured in wolf attack in the ongoing week in the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Friday.

In 2024, 11 people, including a woman were killed, and 60 others injured, in different attacks by wolves in the Bahraich district. After that the officials of the Forest Department, had captured as many as six wolves.

An official of the forest department said, "The incident that took place on Thursday night in Bahrao village is disturbing. A wolf took a three-month old girl while the mother was feeding her. The animal ran with the child and this morning, the girl's half-eaten body was found along with her bracelet and clothes far away from her house."

The official added that just three days, a five-year-old girl Ranjit was killed in another wolf attack and her body too was found 500 meters away from the house.

Comment: An eight-year-old boy was killed in April in the same district of Bahraich.

At least three persons including a woman were killed while another woman sustained critical burn injuries after being struck by lightning in Odisha's Rayagada district on Friday.

One Sambari Pidika and her elder sister Pande Pidika along with two others were reportedly working in a cotton field in Bishnuguda village under Rayagada block today.

While they were working, it rained heavily in the area as predicted by the Bhubaneswar-based regional meteorological department. The heavy rainfall was accompanied by lightning strikes.

Unfortunately, all the four persons were struck by a lightning due to which Sambari died on the spot while Pande and the other two persons were rushed to the local hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared the two persons dead on arrival while Pande is still undergoing treatment at the hospital and her condition is stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, police initiated the process for their postmortem and handover the bodies to the family members of the deceased persons.

A pall of gloom descended on the village following the tragic incident and the local resident demanded compensation for the kin of the deceased persons as they were the bread earning members of the family.

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Kamchatka in Russia's far east on Saturday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) says.

The quake hit 111km east of the Russian city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative centre of the Kamchatka region, at a depth of 39.5km, according to the USGS.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre initially said "hazardous" waves were possible along Russian coasts within 300km of the epicentre.

However, the centre has now issued a new update saying the tsunami warning has been cancelled.

USGS earlier gave a magnitude of 7.5 before downgrading it.

Heavy rains, flooding shuts schools, disrupts transport in Henan, China - 6.4 inches of rainfall in 24 hours

Schools in the central Chinese city of Zhengzhou were closed on Thursday as heavy rains swept across Henan Province, prompting red alerts and transport disruptions, local authorities said.

Non-boarding primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan, suspended classes on Thursday after the city launched its flood control emergency response. Residents were advised to avoid non-essential travel.

As of Thursday morning, rains and waterlogging had forced dozens of highway toll stations in Henan to close or impose vehicle restrictions, transport authorities said.

From Wednesday morning to Thursday morning, heavy rains swept much of Henan -- with downpours in parts of Xuchang, Zhoukou, Luohe and Nanyang. A total of 47 rainstorm and thunderstorm warnings were in effect, including red alerts in the city of Xuchang and Taikang and Fugou counties.

Xuchang recorded 163.8 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours to 8 a.m. Thursday, the highest in the country, according to the National Meteorological Center.

Provincial transport authorities have dispatched more than 10,000 personnel for flood control and rescue efforts.
